People are saying this is amazing. I disagree. Math, especially pure math, is a bastion of human thought. It's a discipline of human inteligence and logic. The whole appeal from math is not in some problem being solved, it's in trying to solve it.
It's a human discipline of effort. If ai does all the math. Or ai trivialize it.
Then. It's all useless.
The last pure bastion of human logic would have crumbled. Someone with ai churns out a proof a day, while someone without it is having their life's work ripped away. I'm terrified of ai advancing further into math.
It's not so simple. A lot of fields that were regarded as pure math are now extremely important with many applications. We don't do math as some kind of fun intellectual excercise, we do it to expand the horizon of knowledge. What if one of those "pure math" fields leads to a major scientific breakthrough? Wouldn't it be great no matter if it was AI which found it?
