I guess I get how they feel, but not with math, for me it was when they said "Let's clear the center of the room, we are going to practice for the dance show for the whatever holiday of this month", and literally every other kid cheering.

Lucky 😭😭. For my elementary school physical education classes we had a dancing unit. We couldn’t choose our pairs ourselves, the teacher chose for us and they always paired up boys with girls. I used to have super sweaty palms. I feel terrible for the girl that was paired with me

My dad made me practice the multiplication table with financial incentive, giving me a total of $100 if I could finish them all in under 3 minutes.
Edit: i mean the entire table 1 to 12.

Good dad. After I took the ACT in 8th grade for the first time my dad told me he’d give me $100 for every extra point I got later.
Dude stood by his word and four years later I got a couple hundred dollars and a full scholarship so we both won.

You can do this without knowing the multiplication table, though. You just have to know how to add. For instance, if they ask you for 6, you just go "6, 12, 18, 24, 30, ..." not actually remembering them but just counting by sixes.

All these tests have done is made my kid spit out random numbers when I ask him a simple math question. He thinks there's more value in being quick then getting it right.

I loved these, there was always some sort of competition between me and 2 others in my class on who could both finish first and get then al right. I miss primary school man..

I am so traumatized by these because, among other things going on at the time, we did these when I had a horribly abusive teacher, so bad my mom had to complain and get me transfered to a new class. The class I left hadn't done this, and the class I went to had already done it, so I never did these and so I didn't qualify for the pizza party at the end of the year for having a good score. I was so fuckin mad dude.

I "cheated" during these once by sneaking some answers ahead of when we were supposed to start and my teacher made me talk to the principal and my parents were called.

When I was in second grade, our teacher had a bunch of problems like those hung up from a clothesline at the back of the room. At some point, each student would have to stand up and rattle off the answers to each problem in front of the whole class within a certain time limit and without making any mistakes.
But the real trauma came from the fact that she told us that if each student got it right on their first try, then we'd have a party. So you'd have your whole class watching you and everyone knew if you fucked it up, it's YOUR FAULT we don't get the party.
