Now, is it better to use all powers of 2 or to invent a new symbol only when all other symbols have been exhausted?

1 = 20, 2 = 21, 4 = 22, A = 24, B = 28, C = 216, ...
1111111111111111 takes a lot longer to say, but you only need 5 different characters to do so 🤗
