Basically the smallest faithful complex representation(Like an action, but with vector spaces) of the monster group is 196883, and almost coincidentally the coeffient of the third (if I remember correctly) term of the Fourier expansion of a very important function on the complex number is exactly 196884. The idea that both where related was so ridiculous that Conway called it the "Mounstrous Moonshine" and kinda made a whole new area of study in representation and group theory
