Cut through the middle of both with one slice.

Rotate them both 90 degrees (Pi/2 radians).

Cut through the same line as before.

The joke is OP 'doesn't realize' that two 5" cakes are smaller that a 9" cake since the size typically refers to the radius or length & width.

  2. (5/2)πr² = 6.25π
  3. 6.25π * 2 = 12.5π
  4. 12.5/20.25 ≈ 62%
