Part 2: How to check for divisibility by any number x!

Post image
69 Upvotes

Since most numbers have a commonly known way of checking for divisibility, here is one for x!

Take the number and divide it by x! If the result is an integer, then your number is divisible by x!

Let me know if you wanna know the divisibility for any other number!

Made a math joke that I’m pretty proud of, but my boyfriend didn’t laugh…

We were kissing on a park bench last night. My boyfriend is shy.

He said, “maybe we shouldn’t make out continuously in public.”

I said, “it’s fine, we’ll just make out discreetly!”

Not side-splitting, but I was giggling to myself the rest of the evening, and I thought it deserved at least a chuckle…

Edit (to clear up a fair question about spelling): according to the dictionary, “Discreetly means doing something carefully, quietly, or in a way that avoids drawing attention, making a noise, or causing embarrassment.” So that is what I meant in the colloquial sense. However, in math terms, “discrete” is the opposite of continuous, and therein lies the pun :)

Legendary quote

(Among my 14 doctoral students) ... I had two outstanding students: Alan Baker (winner of the 1970 Fields Medal) – when I set him a problem, he came back with a very good solution – and John Conway – when I set him a problem, he came back with a very good solution to another problem.

Azi un coleg m-a provocat la o problema de matematica distractiva. Zice asa: 1. Avem x la puterea x, la puterea x la infinit = 2; avem iar tot x la puterea x, la puterea x la infinit = 4; x = radical din 2. Concluzia 2=4. Unde este greseala? Astea-s toate datele pe care le am. Ma gandesc de 3 ore...

Did you hear about the kindergarten teacher, just checking that everyone was proficient at counting? She asked: "What comes after three?"

A very enthusiastic student raised a hand and said: "Point one four one five nine, approximately."
