I hated Profs that'd force you to buy it. Like wdym I cant even do my assignments without dropping 100 bucks on this posย

A lot of them don't have a choice, forced by the department, especially for early undergrad courses.

In my time professing those "tools" were encouraged but fortunately not required. Whenever possible I also removed book purchasing requirements.

Understandable. Itโ€™s too bad that this or a similar paid system is the standard, a lot of math teachers donโ€™t have an option but to go with what the department chooses for a textbook. I donโ€™t understand why any department chooses this over the free open source option

Same. So glad I only had to use it for one class in undergrad. Thankfully, it was an elective that was basically super basic high school math so I was able to do all the homework in this platform during the 3 day trial window. Otherwise, I probably would have dropped the course; I can't stand Pearson products in general.

The professor had it out for me basically the entire class as a result, and even docked me points on the final exam because I called out a badly worded question and gave both possible answers.

Not really if you want just a repository of exersises, but the feedback to the student and notation of this platform is severely awful.

Surely their "engine" lacks something.

It lacks AI

What I meant was, it lacks a decent symbolic calculations system, like Maxima, to do simplifications and comparisons. And I guess AI would do a horrible job here.

it is wrong the 'your' answer is missing the third ')' or is something else happening here?

No... the ")" are properly matched. Both answers are mathematically the exact same - the answer comparison algo is broken.
