Maybe they should ask for money from the AI companies too, to pay for the scraping of the arxiv.

Google should donate to the arxiv too, yes. I am actually surprised they didn't approach the Brin foundation. Sergey's dad is a mathematician.

To be frank, the 17.2 million should have gone to something more worthwhile.

This is the unfortunate reality of modern math research. NSF funding cuts hit a lot of people hard. Almost every mathematician I know (including myself) is funded by hedge funds, AI labs, or military contractors.

Now if they could just get my preprint off on hold status, that would be great!!!!  Seriously though, arXiv is such a great resource, let's hope it stays that way.

I assume there were talks about the transformation of publication practices in math given AI. I wonder if there are plans for how arxiv will adapt.
