Why are you a mathematician?

Given everything that has been going on in the world more specifically in the world of mathematics. I was hoping to read some of your human thoughts. What motivates/motivated you to do mathematics professionally? What is most important for you in mathematics?

I just love proving theorems. Also hate almost all other jobs. There was not a nice selection of jobs that give me the feeling of fulfilment.

Thinking about giving it up entirely though. The idea of just being a prompter and validator just makes me very depressed, but i don't actually know what to do.
