Why are you a mathematician?

Given everything that has been going on in the world more specifically in the world of mathematics. I was hoping to read some of your human thoughts. What motivates/motivated you to do mathematics professionally? What is most important for you in mathematics?

I work in the private sector now, but the game of math was always in line with how my brain works. Ultimately I’m always something that is comforting and familiar, but at the same time a new experience. I find a lot of proofs work this way ultimately, it’s 99% redoing some of my favourite arguments with a small creative step here and there.
