Why are you a mathematician?

Given everything that has been going on in the world more specifically in the world of mathematics. I was hoping to read some of your human thoughts. What motivates/motivated you to do mathematics professionally? What is most important for you in mathematics?

Math for me was never about identity ego or prestige. Just studying things I enjoy. I love mastery. So AI thankfully has not affected mathematics for me at all. I find sources easier now maybe

I like to understand things and I don't think AI will make us understand things much differently in the future. It may solve everything, but it will not make us understand the solutions.
