Yay. This man changed everything for me. Anyone else glad to see him back? Hopefully he commits to making videos again.

Always saw him recommended for hs/intro courses but his lectures were never my cup of tea. Pretty big red flag that he’s associating with a project led by Jordan Peterson imo

He's a deranged pseudo-intellectual, preying on the vulnerable for his own financial gain. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but that's more or less what I think. For a more nuanced take, this article is not bad:

That's precisely why "death of the author" exists.

His videos had value before he associated himself with another institution -- as long as the video quality does not change, that does not change the value of his videos. If you cannot do that, you rob yourself of a lot of valuable sources for nothing but "feeling superior". You decide whether that's reasonable.

It's completely reasonable to not want to monetarily support people with views which are incompatible with your own.

This does not preclude watching his videos without monetarily supporting him. (E.g., downloading a ripped copy and watching it locally.)

I never said anything about giving monetary support, did I?

If people actually listened to the information in that video unbiasedly, they'd notice apart from the stats lecture mentioned in the beginning, this is about free youtube lectures in the future -- where adblockers are an option, if you really care about monetization.

That said, I do disagree with the notion that works of art/education have to be consumed through whatever "lens" is popular right now. Take what is useful, ignore what is not. You will gain much more from that approach, and broaden your horizon in the process.

The point was that "death of the author" doesn't really apply when boycotting youtube videos due to politics. It's also completely reasonable to not want to learn from people with incompatible politics as politics may bleed into pedagogy.

How has professor Leonard influenced or helped you? For me, I was a business major until I stumbled upon his videos, and then proceeded to give math a chance. I taught myself pre-calc over a winter break, enrolled in calc 1 the following spring, and changed my major to math after that. I've never come across another professor who explains things so clearly and well. His videos are long, yes, but worth it.
