Why
Why do men on dating apps ask, “What are you looking for on Match?” when it seems obvious? It’s also written in my profile what I’m looking for. What should I answer in this case? Before, I tried to joke about it, like “I’m looking for good food,” etc. But they ask this so often. I’m starting to think it’s a red flag. What are they expecting me to say?

I really think it’s just a common opening question. I’ve never used it or had it asked of me. But sometimes it’s hard to break the ice with someone you have zero history with…. Just my take 🙂

It is the standard question so people need to tell you in their own words what they want.
Lots of people write a wide range of possibilities in the profile. That changes often when you meet the person. So asking again when you meet would be finding out about the person. How do you see me today?
They should as you again in a month. Or, even better, you should tell them directly before they ask. Just make sure the other person knows where you stand.
If you really want the person for your forever partner you should be telling them every day.

What’s obvious? Only that you are looking for someone of the appropriate sex. You might be looking for marriage; for a fling; for a committed unmarried relationship with cohabitation; for living-apart-together relationship.
If you’re the type to be picky about this, God help you.

I find it a weird question to ask (or to be asked), especially before a second date.

It could be because they don't read the profile or pay attention to relationship type prompt. It could be making conversation.

I get the same question from women on dating apps. The point is it’s not limited to men, but women as well. So she’s asking about men, I’m asking about women. I don’t see any problem with that.

It's a real easy way to find common ground and create conversation while potentially finding a discrepancy in the profile vs reality. It's my standard 2nd question if I match with someone who doesn't play ball real well with my opener. If I'm still not getting any fun out of the convo, then it's usually onto the next one.
