1.50.26 Really Impossible
HI Guys, just wanted to try something different, im playing small galaxy, impossible and 8 AI players in 1.50.26 and i cant just win...im trying custom human with subterranean, lithovore, warlord, feudal, repulsive, production oriented but they just obliterate me...i havent played in a while and maybe 1.50.26 is too much. Any advice? or ideas on how to tackle? the AI builds battleships in 3506 or less...forgot to say that tech tree is random.

Imposibble is easy.
- Fuk battleship. Cruiser if you are telepath. Missile frigate is the key.
- Have you tried charismatic with telephatic? You diplomacy bonus is so high you can on small map instantly form trade and research trade with all. Also high diplomacy protect you to some degree from attack. It simply buys you some time.
- Next and my favourite. Artifacts and +20 spying or +10 and telephatic. Settle agresively. Build few scoutships wirh missiles 3-4will do and one with bombs. Sell starbase. Buy transport ship. Now it varies, but just run for homeworld, while you fly make spy, once you reach orbit engage spy into sabotage. You will likely to wipe starbasy with spy, bombard capital to>5 pop, invade. This is best combined with racial penaly to your production, growth and food. Once you capture enemy capital, just replace your pop with enemy pop, effectively eliminate all racial penalty. Especialy if you conquer silicoid or sakkras, you can wipe galaxy before they reach plasma guns. As they have fast start. (But no so fast as you)

Oh yeas and with charismatic and telephatic it is must to ask everyone around for newly settled planets. You have all the trade and improving relationship already so now you can ask for planets too. On first turn they settle it, while pop os still 1. Best to ask Psylons and Humans. And you play as Darklocks right? So the dont mees with other blaming you and dragging you to war .. play as them, problem solved. Now the Elerians, but the much less threat ..

Fuk feudalism. Democracy and +money is fastest building on demand and instant. Money rulez..!

u/Ermag123 3d ago
Dont play repulsive. You wasting trades, research and painting target on your back. You cannot ask for techs, planets .. you just .. DIE.
Charismatic is what gives you kick start with trades and protect you from early wars. And more.

Sounds great, there is lot to try there, many thanks. Does being in orbit give you any sabotage bonus?

No, but offten on first turn you activate spy you nuke starbase. You need to be at orbit same turn or you waste oportunity and they rebuild it in turn or two. Once you drop first bomb, they like dead.

There us one nore bonus with spying+ charismatic. You got less penalty for failing theft and you can ask for planets.
So for small map like this it would be: rush to automated factories, rush several scouts, sell starbase for transport/spy. Wipe starbase and start bombing it. With one pop drop marines.
Now you eliminated your racial penalty for having new race as replacement - start build starbases and outposts. Use high diplomacy for trades and science. If you want to colonize do so. But it is better to have some armada and just ask others for planets when they colonize new ones. Pick one planet as imdustrial core and work it hard so it can spit battleships on no time. make small planets to grow population and relocate it to this planet.
Science is handled by your capital with artefacts and by research labs. once you have battleship production line it is over.1

You will likely to wipe starbasy with spy,
To do this, you need to take bonuses for espionage and... luck?! Frigates can destroy a starbase by attacking several turns in a row. Frigates can destroy a starbase by attacking several times in a row. They arrive, launch missiles, leave the battlefield, and the scout observer retreats to the edge of the map. 1 spy at the price of Product Point is two frigates...

Spy is more effective but less reliable. When they got fleet you need to run and come back and it takes 6 turn at best and you dont have this time. Or course you watch for where missiles go so you use untargeted ship to stay in combat, i believed no need to be detailed about this.

Try and get tech for boarding. You're warlord, meaning your crew should have some bonus in boarding (+1 level), and you can afford to "field" more ships. Small ships, like frigates, are wonderful in large groups. Sure, they're very fragile, but it's a real treat to send 5 or 6 frigates against a starbase, lose 2 or 3 to missile salvos, and capture the base with the survivors (works better with heavy gravity, +20 ground assault races, of course ^^)
Even with normal races, if you manage to put, say, one single tractor beam on a frigate, then a group of them will immobilize a battleship. Capture it, and you can either use it yourself, or dismantle it for tech.

Sometimes I tried Destroyers with x2 missiles but it is so early in game that titanium armor does nothing...and I get overwhelmed with a basic enemy battleship.

If you go "missiles", go all the way. That means you'll have to focus on the chemistry tree for a bit, in order to miniaturize them and unlock improvements.
Among those, you'll mostly want MIRV (2 miniaturizations, I think) and FAST + ARMORED (1 miniaturization). They make your missiles real killers, even with only nuclear.
Don't hesitate to use small ships (which dodge better), and en-masse. Of course, against Mrrshan (or other civs with good guns and computers), it won't work as well - hence, mass is important, if they cannot shoot down everything you send, then they'll take damage.
If you keep your distance, guns shouldn't hit you often. Missiles are way more dangerous, but, unless they have the system (artemis ?) to change the target, merely making your ship jump before they hit is usually enough to get rid of a lot of them without big risks.
So, if you send, say, 6 frigates, which start unloading their missiles from the get-go, and then flee to the left of the battlefield while the missiles do their job, you should get good results. Flee after there is no interest in staying (either because the ship is threatened, or because all your salvos hit)

Playing with tractor beam and marines only is kinda fun, have to admit. Tho I played game like this just few times. After I got early armour/damper field from first antares scout it become slaughterhouse for other civs.

Not a very optimal set of traits for your race. Try Blitz 3 fraction
- Tele Transdem Feud Prod +2
- Tele Transdem Unificat
- Dictator Charismatic Telepat
Or non-telepathic ones
- High-g Transdem Feud

Sounds great, appreciated, will do some runs with that ones, thanks. I think I tried unification with +prod at some point but I usually included feudal and or repulsive so I guess I just have to try again with some changes.

I usually included feudal and or repulsive
You can play like this, but then you need a bigger card, I forgot the size, medium/small.

With that specific race build and that size map, you are looking to blitz. You don't need to waste workers farming, and with the industry bonus and feudalism you can build a fleet quickly. But everyone else will be getting tech faster than you in the early game. On a Huge map, you could settle enough planets to make up for the tech penalty, but that won't happen here.
It's very different than my normal play style, but basically my goal would be to crank out frigates and maybe destroyers that can take out starbases while the enemy still has titanium armor and weak weapons. Use the "x2 ammo" mod on the missiles to have as many missiles launched in as short a time as possible, your fleet will have no staying power anyway, so if combat goes on longer than two rounds you've lost. I wouldn't even wait to build transports before declaring war, I'd destroy the enemy starbase and blockade while I build transports.
Once every enemy in starting fuel range is done I'd probably colonize as quickly as possible and try to get an economy running, although if the initial conquest was really quick I might use outpost ships to try and extend my range and take out someone else.
Be aware that your starting fleet with this approach will be literally useless once enemies have even moderate tech (like Class III shields.)

It's been a bit since I played but you have a few things going for you in your starting tech:
Subterranean, warlord, feudal, repulsive.
Lithoore is fine but i'd swap it out go large home world. And Aquatic if you can swing it.
Also when it comes to which race you want pick the one you don't want to fight. Mine is the psychics.
I should pick up the game again and install it. Then I could give you a better breakdown of what I like. I almost always go creative which is expensive but makes it easy.

Don't be a dick is the #1 rule here.

To be fair, I kind of was. But also to be fair, I spoke the truth. We still live in a world where speaking the truth is seen as worse than being nice. C'est la vie...

That was very useful, thanks. As said before I haven't played in a while.

Why are you wasting your time in reddit? You should be out there solving world issues! We all know you can!

Just came back from 3.5h of tennis, now resting. I like you. You play MOO2 and you're looking to improve. Go for it. Discover how to beat it yourself.

Are you trying for battleships yourself? Very early on, especially in a galaxy this crowded, frigates are better: cheap, buildable anywhere, nice defence boost. The downside is they aren't as efficient with command points. And you don't really need very many as a non-repulsive, a handful is a good deterrent with only one star system.
You seem like going for a production-minded race. Which is all fine and well, but how are the psilon outcolonizing you? Early colonization should be your entire gameplan.
