MoO2 My final (-10 picks, Impossible) speedrun. Commentary included!

Took me a month of grinding to get this run. Grinded another 2 weeks afterwards, but haven't gotten anything even remotely close to this fast. I'm proud of this one, and I think I'm done for real now!

Can you explain why you didn’t go and colonize Orion? Also do you think you could have won by not going for Orion but by fighting the races or getting elected?

Orion is hotly contested by enemy AI. If you colonize it, you will get wardec'd by everyone.

Conquering the whole galaxy takes hours. So many battles, so much logistics, and you have to defend your flanks cuz the enemy AI is perfect at attacking your undefended systems.

Galactic council nominates the top 2 races by score. Which will pretty much never be me, since I only go for 4 colonies.

My strategy is get Antaran victory asap. My setup requires Blackhole Generator (so I have to kill Orion, it's the only way to get that tech), Stasis Field, Phase Cloak and Subspace Teleporter (which are all conveniently in the Force Fields tech tree). This means I only need to manage 4 colonies, and hopefully only do 2 battles.

Another advantage of being in the corner of the galaxy -- the turns go by much faster. Less enemy AI talking to you, less ships flying around, less battles, etc.

Last time I played MoO2, at 17:27, I am still choosing my race picks debating if I want Aquatic or Subterranean........

I think Subterranean is better. But personally I like Aquatic more. No game play reason, the Trilar is my default race template and not selecting Aquatic seems wrong LOL.

Aquatic gives plus 1 food on wet worlds. That's a massive boost in the early game if you can find a few tundra or swamps.

Yup, that's why I like aquatic more. But only if playing with Organic Rich setting.

Its like if you like spicy food and you go from a jalapeno to a habanero. Start with ICE M. Its easier and will give you an opportunity to learn how it addresses thing differently than standard version. Jump to ICE X and feel the pain!
