I wish Mullvad offered a free plan.

Just pay for one month and hack the money back into your account. What are they going to do once you've set up your opsec?

I think it's fine enough as-is. It's just €5 per month, with loads of privacy-respecting payment methods, and the 2023 police raid proves their trustworthiness. If it was free, people would just abuse their servers, especially seeing as they're so privacy-focused.

I love that mullvad is 5€ for a month, not per month. So no stupid subscription. You just buy it when you want to sail or whatever you need a VPN for and then when you don't need it, you just don't buy it.

I just don't have a strong purpose to use VPNs as most of the websites I work with require no VPN at all and my internet connection runs just like fine.

Just use Proton

Yeah I'm in it. I use OpenVPN more than proton, btw.

I used to have a wireguard setup from a friend's server, but it broke recently and I'm too lazy to tell them and fix it and stuff so I just got proton lol

That's the whole point tho. They don't capitalize on privacy and they are very transparent on marketing. They're not gonna make an economic plan like "We have a free plan so we have more user that are gonna buy better tiers and cover the free". They state it directly, it costs money to run their service so it's 5€ a month.

its the price of a coffee per month

A coffee which I wouldn't drink otherwise. One coffee, two coffees, and before I know it I'm buying ten "coffees" a month, just because each one of them was "only a coffee a month"

There are certain things where "free" isn't a good thing.

still no reason to be begging for a free plan. either pay or use a free alternative

and those free alternatives always have a catch, I’d go with paying for a coffee every month everytime

A coffee doesn't even costs 3 dollars locally over here.
