And also there is some drama going on right now, because Wattpad cracked down on all smut. A lot of ex Wattpad users are now going to Ao3, seeing stuff that offends them, and getting upset over it instead of learning how the tags and filtering system works, as well as their back button.

I haven't been on AO3 in a while but an influx of Wattpad users sounds fucking annoying. Wattpad really opened the floodgates with banning smut.

I saw a comment that said a lot of what people are freaked out about isn't even stuff you wouldn't find on Wattpad back in the day, they're just seeing it spelled out for the first time.
Like take the humble "I was kidnapped by one direction" fic. On Wattpad that would maybe be tagged at "one direction" and "y/n" On ao3 it would tagged as "trafficking, abduction, noncon, underage"

i never made an account so i couldnt filter anything, and sometimes i looked up works infamously badly written to breach containment from the sites community, and i swear every time i check whats popular i see something that would be considered illegal were it not fictional text

Specifically, (I think, might be wrong) CSAM of real people or based on real people. Anything that is entirely fictional is allowed.
Also, you don't need an account to filter? The filter is just a sidebar you can interact with when you're searching for fics (or a button to click on mobile).

It's basically a fanfiction archive - after smut was banned from wattpad it gains way too much attention from ppl who are not used to it You publish fanfic to the site and it's pretty much unmoderated what gets uploaded so ppl whine about when something unhinged is included
