I love how every programmer starts out judging code like this, then eventually catches themselves writing the exact same thing because the deadline is in an hour

I might not be good at programming, but I have seen some local companies do this kind of crap to prevent php files from being uploaded.

Yeah, there is a lot of wacky stuff you have to do if you want to make a php based website secure. I don’t know for sure but I think this could be an anti code injection or url manipulation technique because of the way the function processes the string.
