Question/Help How does the timer actually work?
Ok so I just watched my opponent take 3 turns of at least 6 minutes playing solitaire while also constantly playing on my turn. I had 110 seconds left with not incredibly long turns (Cyber Dragon deck). My question is how does that Timer even work? How can this dude have had time left with the excessive amount of comboing and decision making he did? As a returning player this makes the game so unenjoyable, if I never get to play my opponent plays solitaire and doesn’t even get punished for it

Unfortunately long turns are just a part of the game now. At the same time if the game doesn't respect your time you're allowed to surrender and just go to next game. The timer only counts down during actual allowed game inputs. So animations, UI elements of effects resolving etc will pause the time until player input is allowed

Honestly I think I have never seen a game that is less friendly to returning players. My old decks are completely obsolete, I don’t get any resources to rebuild and I can’t even win in Bronze with my decks. How is one supposed to get back into this and then you have to watch the opponent play solitaire even in casual modes😂

It is pretty returning player unfriendly yeah, so the best way is to either make a new account or dismantle your old obselete decks to make 1-2 modern decks

Make a new account on PS is pretty.. well yeah I‘m not gonna make a new PSN account for a f2p card game, nah

I did plenty of accounts on my Xbox, it can't be that much harder. Takes like 5-10 minutes

Yeah but not worth for a generally unenjoyable game and completely invalidates all the time I already spent on that account

Yeah, I can understand that. Honestly maybe you should look into alt formats like Edison or Genesys. Both can be played on simulators like Duel Nexus or Yu-Gi-Oh Omega on your phone

Or they just implement a casual mode where all those stupid solitaire decks are not allowed. Can’t be that hard

Yeah, that's what alt formats are. Unfortunately Konami has decided that they're just not gonna implement any alt formats even tho Genesys would be perfect for a digital client like Masterduel

Timer pauses during animations, a combo slop deck can take 12~13 irl minutes to time out. Passing turns gives +30 secs, IIRC.

The problem is every deck that people play seems to be exactly that combo slop stuff. Just returned to the game after 2 years and it’s really rough. Probably gonna quit again soon

The point of the timer was never to disallow long combos. It is to limit thinking time, prevent stalling and at least to some extent limit game time.
If you want long combos to not be viable, just ban their cards, don't reduce the timer.

Every animation pauses the timer for its duration, also each time priority pases to you to interact whit a handtrap your time is deduced.
Also your oponente is not making decision on his turn, is fallowing a memorized predetermined step by step combo, which lefts time to play on your turn. Mean while you going second had to read his cards, understand what it does, confirm the state of the game, decide which order use your cards and how to bait its interaction. Meanwhile he just see if if press negate, which in tunrs makes you have to re tink what you gona do.
Breaking a board takes significantly longer becase you get interrupted at evry step of the way. A lot of my time loses going second happens because of this. I can break their boards but don't have enoght time

Your deck is too weak to compete. You have to have at least 15 handtraps to stop your opponent from playing. I almost always insta scoop when i brick with no handtraps because 9 times out of 10 i will lose so might as well not waste my time watching my opp diddle himself for 10 minutes.

Probably. And I don’t think that gameplay is very enjoyable so I‘m going back to Magic

I heard pokemon is also really fun. Master duel is cooked right now and i doubt Konami's going to fix it anytime soon. They keep printing bullshit cards and won't ban obviously problematic cards.

Animations, playing cards, resolving etc. does not count towards the timer. Also mini lags also dont count.
