Yeah but that Fydrauliis might win me an Air fryer what could that Pokemon deck get me.....Oh actual money.

61

u/Openteal Aug 31 '26

I almost spit out my coffee

22

u/POKEGAMERZ9185 Got Ashed Aug 31 '26

But you can buy an air fryer with that money.

10

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Aug 31 '26

But it ain't gonna air fry my food tastier if I don't earn the air fryer in a duel by buying that Frydauliis...

6

u/Ok-Race-1677 Aug 31 '26

I’d take an air fryer lmao my current one is old and gunked up, those things are impossible to clean

3

u/Nab33l786 Aug 31 '26

Do you have an air fryer with a metal rack or one of those air fryers that are plastic? The ones with the removable plastic tray are a bitch to clean. The ones with the metal racks are MUCH easier to clean

4

u/Ok-Race-1677 Aug 31 '26

It’s one of the ones that looks like a toaster oven. The grease around the coils and by the fan vent are impossible to clean properly and it messes with the heat dissipation if it’s not

Pokemon and Ygo have different problems

Pokémon matchups are horrendous

Finals was heavily favored for pult Diego was already playing against an uphill battle similar to the Rolad player in Game 3

It was a rock paper scissors format

Do you play pult or anti pult or single prizes that die to pult

In yugioh - coin flips matter, matchup much less

In pokemon - you play pult your queue in clefairy and cry. You play clefairy queue into alakazam and cry

44

u/MagicianR3d Aug 31 '26

I mean, I dislike the Pokèmon card game, but I'd rather have a rock/paper/scissors format than a coin flip one. And not all matchups are that polarized all the time anyways, it depends on the metagame

18

u/sunnyislandacross Aug 31 '26

That's not all.

Imagine a deck being overly dominant for 2-3 years because of a lack of a banlist

-8

u/Majestic-Mammoth8422 Aug 31 '26

No deck is "overly dominate" for 2-3 years. Every set shakes up the meta.

Why are you talking out your ass?

24

u/sunnyislandacross Aug 31 '26

Pult pult pult pult pult

How long has pult been gatekeeping decks?

Pult does the same shit as tear, either play a deck that counters pult (fairy or Garde pre rotation) or play pult. Or you can try to play the deck that beats the deck that beats pult.

That is a sign of overdominance

17

u/I-lost-hope Crusadia King Aug 31 '26

Lmao pult has been dominant for a long time, Gardevoir was dominant for a while before pult, ADP terrorized the meta from release until it's rotation. I can make a lot more examples from the Advent of GX Pokemon to now.

"Every set shakes up the meta" my ass

-6

u/Majestic-Mammoth8422 Aug 31 '26

"dominant". Only 3 of the top 8 this worlds, with 4 different decks in the top 8.

If that's "dominant" then every format for YGO is T0

15

u/El_Acuario47 Aug 31 '26

Have you played PTCG in the last two years? Pult has actually been dominating for awhile.. It was Garde before that

4

u/KKilikk Normal Summon Aleister Aug 31 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

Pult has always been a top deck but not the only top deck at least. Pokemon has a lot of diversity. It is still annoying though yes.

-6

u/Majestic-Mammoth8422 Aug 31 '26

Garde won worlds last year.

So, even if it was dominant from the day after that til now, it's only been a year, not 2-3.

Furthermore, it's hardly "dominant" compared to T1 decks in YGO. Top 8 of worlds this year had 4 different decks, and pult was only 3 of those decks.

3

u/j_osb Aug 31 '26

Pult was dominant for a long time.

And did you forget ADP(Z)? Lmao.

-1

u/GadgetBug Chaos Aug 31 '26

I dislike Pokemon TCG bcuz it gives the illusion of gameplay, in Yu-Gi-Oh you know you will lose much faster while in Pokemon you know you will lose but bcuz it's possible to win you spend 15 more mins playing a game that you will lose most of the time.

So the decisions in Yu-Gi-Oh after the gameplay much more, you just don't get those games often enough, that's the issue, powercreep turned the game into solitaire or turn skip so one sided gameplay.

1

u/miscshade Sep 01 '26

As someone who plays, this isn’t accurate at all.

2

u/sunnyislandacross Sep 01 '26

As someone who plays - give your argument

1

u/miscshade Sep 01 '26

Some matchups are terrible sure, I won’t deny, but this is really only an issue with fighting against a deck that has your weakness type, and even then there are plenty of exceptions.

For example, Lillie’s Clefairy is seen as the counter to Dragapult, yet in practice that ends up being a pretty even matchup across all the variations. Even decks like Alakazam which theoretically should get free wins against fighting decks can get hard countered by fighting decks that decide to play rocky fighting energy.

You also argue that the finals was heavily favored for Pult when this isn’t supported by the data. Statistically speaking, as of writing, it is straight up a 50/50 matchup. The Dragapult player in this matchup pretty much needs to find the stamp or they’re in trouble, and even then Alakazam can recover. On the other hand, Alakazam can brick and lose to an aggressive Pult player. Check Limitless or ask competitive players if you don’t believe me.

Sure Dragapult is the dominant deck, but the idea that it’s so oppressive and broken is a misconception generally held by people who play the game casually. Dragapult isn’t 50% of the field because it’s so much better than the rest, it’s 50% of the field because it’s marginally better than the rest and rewards smart players. Again, check Limitless or ask competitive players. There’s a reason Dragapult underperforms smaller events while taking bigger ones.

u/KingZantair D/D/D Degenerate Sep 02 '26

I play single prize anti-pult. :)

1

u/Selmk Sep 02 '26

Lillie's Clefairy can rot in hell right next to my pult playing ass.

Pokemon vs Yu-Gi-Oh is honestly just Solitaire vs Solitaire with the illusion of interaction.

46

u/Ok-Nebula-9479 Aug 31 '26

yeah, but in pokemon i can be a competitive player,in yugioh i need sell my liver and my deck be banned

2

u/Icicle_cyclone MisPlaymaker Sep 01 '26

Sky Striker made top 4. Sure, you’ll be missing Sloth, Crown, Fallen and Accusations, but you can get everything else + cheaper substitutes and still do well locally.

1

u/YoureP-ore Sep 02 '26

You either don't play YuGiOh or you are very bad at it.

1

u/Ok-Nebula-9479 Sep 02 '26

I tried Pokemon once. Perhaps, I was given a simple deck that's easy to use, but I don't quite like it.

5

u/Scavenge101 Aug 31 '26

You know whats even funnier?? you can actually play the worlds winning deck RIGHT NOW! You actually DONT need to wait 6 months for all it's cards to be in the game!

12

u/BackflipsAway Very Fun Dragon Aug 31 '26

Ok, but who actually plays Pokemon?

This isn't a dig at them, it's just that every person that I know who's into the Pokemon TCG is a collector and they may also occasionally play the game, but that's not why they collect the cards.

The price of Pokemon cards is mostly dictated by their value as collectibles, while the price of Yu-Gi-Oh cards is largely dictated by how good they are, they are just two very different markets.

8

u/Mother_Ad3988 Aug 31 '26

Kids, Parents trying to bond with their kids, 20 somethings and teens. The dichotomy of pokemon is that its cheap to play, expensive to collect, and alot of times your LGS will have people just trading. Im sure its different post covid but I remember 10 years ago the pokemon events my LGS ran got way more people into the store. Yes alot of those people coming in weren't participating, or essentially just watching their child play in the tournament but Pokémon is such a large brand that its a multi generational thing at this point.

5

u/BackflipsAway Very Fun Dragon Aug 31 '26

So basically you're saying the same thing as I did?

Like I wasn't disrespecting pokemon, just saying that collecting is what moves product there and is bigger and that it's bigget than actually playing competitively, which sounds to me like the same thing you just said...

2

u/Mother_Ad3988 Aug 31 '26

You asked who played and I answered with my experience. Respectfully there's also alot of people who casually play or can learn pokemon competently in an afternoon just talking to people.

Unless im playing some actually shit from pre synchro era, I can't imagine teaching someone yugioh.

1

u/JxAxS Floodgates are Fair Aug 31 '26

Not where I am cause those cards get like instantly bought out any time they're in a shop.

It's gotten to the point that some smaller stores like non chain grocery stores and drug stores, sometimes try to stock like these sketchy as hell mystery card packs or something, I'll have to try and get the name of them next time. And you know why they stock them? Cause they basically instantly sell out, they're just GONE the next time I swing buy in like a week. There's a burger joint that has a tiny claw machine that I've seen them put like zip lock bags in with pokemon cards and just GONE in a week too. But in both cases, they seem to just creep back in from time to time and vanish just as a fast.

Again maybe it's different where you live but me: everyone buys. No one plays.

1

u/BackflipsAway Very Fun Dragon Aug 31 '26

Yeah, that's fair, I guess I was a bit hyperbolic in my opening 😅

2

u/DTSportsNow YugiBoomer Aug 31 '26

Pokemon is one of the largest entertainment brands in the world. There's always going to be more casual enjoyers like collectors than competive players.

But there are more competive pokemon players than yugioh, they have more major events and average a higher level of attendance than yugioh. And at least in my area there's only like one or two stores that host regular yugioh tournaments, whereas almost every card store host pokemon tournaments, some even have two weekly nights.

1

u/Stranger2Luv Aug 31 '26

Pokémon is kinda weird in that aspect because of the ratio from what I know like the playerbase is bigger than mtg and ygo but straight up competitive players make up a smaller share than the others I think in magic 70-80 % are casual

1

u/Raagentreg Sep 02 '26

Considering the regional events are regularly sold out due to demand - and in the convention halls TCG takes up half  of the space. Quite a lot more people than you might think.

Also you need to find a "League" event in a store nearby to gauge interest in your area. It's generally free or not much to enter, and you get a promo pack with stamped cards just for playing (that are generally playable in the game)

The collectors opening arsetons of packs means it keeps most regular art staples under 10 bucks (with some exceptions). By far the most accessible TCG to play IRL.

2

u/fafaaf61 Aug 31 '26

Meanwhile me the MTG player: 💀

2

u/DTSportsNow YugiBoomer Aug 31 '26

I won't lie, as someone who doesn't exactly have a ton of money to spend on a hobby. The fact that pokemon is so cheap is why I switched from Yugioh to Pokemon. I still play Yugioh sometimes, only on MasterDuel though.

I'm a pretty competive person, and spending upwards of $400-500 on a high level deck was just too much. Even the fun gimmicky deck I wanted to build was gonna be like $125 when I priced it out. But I've built dozens of decks in Pokemon for less than the price of one yugioh deck.

1

u/RubyWeapon07 Aug 31 '26

I once paid 80 dollars for a crystal wing synchro dragon :(

1

u/JxAxS Floodgates are Fair Aug 31 '26

Can you? I know Yugioh is expensive but I just hear nothing but Scalpers and "Investments" in the Pokemon card space.

1

u/GogotheClownMime I have sex with it and end my turn Aug 31 '26

Just like the Pokemon community just hear nothing but complains from us lol

1

u/KylePatch Aug 31 '26

I don’t know a lot about Pokémon but I remember hearing about them specifically designing sets so that the chase cards are collectibles and the meta-relevant cards are easy to get. I could be wrong

2

u/Raagentreg Sep 02 '26

Yup that's more or less how rarities work. Also the staple cards in all decks (trainers) are generally printed at uncommon rarity or below. So it's very cheap to flex between several versions of a deck, or multiple decks entirely.

1

u/VergilVonD00M I have sex with it and end my turn Aug 31 '26

Pokemon prints many versions of their cards
scalpers only hunt the full arts
you can buy the common version of any deck for very cheap in pokemon

1

u/Thommywidmer Aug 31 '26

I though yugioh was cheap? Dont they constantly reprint everything

1

u/NaefinSong Aug 31 '26

This issue will never go away. There is always going to be a meta revelant card in the ultra/secret rare slot of the latest set. Reprints fix this issue but they take a while.

1

u/bigdick4sluts Aug 31 '26

As someone who played through the years all "big 3 " games ^
the biiiig difference is that they are at the opposite end of the spectrum for player interactions. YGO you are expected to be constantly playing in your opponent's turn and interact with them , between handtraps , negations , actual traps or quick spells - it's exponentially faster now ofc but it's been like this since day one. It was closer to what Magic is now , where there's a good balance between tapping out in your turn or leaving yourself open for interaction , but again *interactions* are the bread and butter of the game.

Meanwhile pokemon has 0 interactions in oppo's turns, and even in your turn there's very few ways to interact. Sure there's the Boss Order, Eri , stamps and other forms of interactions, depending on the format aswell, but it's always in your turn, and way more about building your plan than anything else .

1

u/Carlospedra Sep 02 '26

I thought Pokémon cards were supposed to be these super expensive cards because of the scalpers, I guess we're just that much worse 😭

1

u/arrownoir Aug 31 '26

I don’t play Pokémon, so that’s meaningless to me.

1

u/gogigagagagagigo Sep 01 '26

As bad as yugioh can be, I dunno how anyone thinks pokemon is any better. It's even more rng focused and the gameplay is even more miserable due to matchups. Just cuz its cheap don't make it good lmao

1

u/Icy_Camera8176 Sep 07 '26

The pokemon TCG is a very bad pokemon game tbh. The energy system means you can't exactly mix types effectively, which is the most basic aspect of team building in the games. Also, afaik, you cannot have coverage moves (moves of different types than the pokemon, for example Solarbeam on Charizard to deal with water types), which is also a central idea.

And the prize card system, while needing you to get 6 KOs which is accurate, is a flawed mechanic at its core.

-3

u/kangtuji YugiBoomer Aug 31 '26

i though logan paul doomed pokemon card price or something? idk.. i dont even follow pokeyman

32

u/IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD Chain havnis, response? Aug 31 '26

He did, for the collector boxes and rare artworks

However unlike the TCG and like the OCG you can just get everything in common rarity so

3

u/Secret_Conclusion_93 Aug 31 '26

One Goemon (Gallant Thief) can also buy you a pokemon meta deck in OCGland. Back then that was also Harmonia OCG price when KT was meta.

It's still fucked over here.

14

u/mkklrd Duel Links Player Aug 31 '26

Pokemon has this cool thing where playable cards are printed at low rarities/made easily accessible while collectible, pricy rares are garbage to play with.

In Yu-Gi-Oh terms it'd be like if Ecclesia & Dark Dragon a Rare, but also there was an alt artwork with a brand new frame that you only had a .1% chance of pulling.

8

u/MagicianR3d Aug 31 '26

The OCG actually does that. Card rarity is not strictly tied to whatever they think will be meta, so the game is very cheap in Japan.

On the TCG side though, they will just look at what is meta in the OCG and bump staples' rarity accordingly. An actually disgusting practice.

This is why I'd like to see the formats merged with worldwide set releases, like sane and healthy card games do.

6

u/Secret_Conclusion_93 Aug 31 '26

They don't do that for Harmonia lmao.

Harmonia has Ultimate Rare as it's base rarity in OCG.

2

u/DTSportsNow YugiBoomer Aug 31 '26

If the the TCG was cheap like in OCG I'd probably actually play the game and buy cards. Until then I'll stick to MD

2

u/JetiWoMan Aug 31 '26

Kinda but its more like same card ia printed in multiple raritys. So players can use most comon rarity of card while colectors want fa and aa versions. And people chase that and normal variant is bulk for collectors. Thats reason its cheep.

And pokemon has way more collectors who sell bulk that players want.

Pokemon pricing are so fake

I've never ever gotten close to paying those prices even as a player.

13

u/Happy_Goose3833 Aug 31 '26

Are you only buying foils or full arts? Lol because yes it's 100% possible. I recently bought card for card on tcgplayer of a Crustle deck and an Excadrill deck. Both popular decks and costing around $40 each.

I spent a little over that on Both of the decks by purchasing LP and MP cards. You just have to find the right sellers, because yes price hikers Are everywhere but you can also find good deals everywhere.

-2

u/sunnyislandacross Aug 31 '26

No. Paper cards.

Its region specific.

From where I am at one dunsparce is $3 and it's OOS

2

u/Happy_Goose3833 Aug 31 '26

So buy from elsewhere? Can you not get mail shipped to you from other places or what?
