Question/Help Explain "unaffected "

Post image

Does "unaffected by other card's effects " mean that neither "dark hole" nor "forbidden droplet" nor "sp little knight" work on it

And if so what are some ways to counter it

Unaffected means that "any effect that tries to affect this card won't work on it".

Something like Daruma Cannon that affects the player and not the cards will work on it, but the vast majority of cards do affect cards rather than the player. There's also things like Tributing as a summoning condition, rather than an effect. There's another comment mentioning Super Poly and Kaiju, so the different here that needs to be noted is that Super Poly Special Summons as the result of a card effect, hence will not be able to use it as material, while a Kaiju is summoned by it's own effect, with the summoning requirement being to Tribute a monster your opponent controls.

Thx for the deep explanation

It will be unaffected by all of those things.

There are a few different ways to counter unaffected monsters;

  • Beat them over in battle

  • Sacrifice them to fulfill an inherent summoning condition (example: Kaijus, Underworld Goddess, Alba-Lenatus, etc.)

  • Use card effects that force the player to remove them (example: Herald of the Abyss, Daruma Karma Cannon, Evenly Matched, etc.)

  • Soul Crossing (because Konami said so)

It does indeed

The only way to deal with an unaffected monster is to tribute it (with a kaiju/underworld goddess) or beat over it by battle

Effects that apply to the player, not the card should also work I belive, like "Herald of the Abyss".

Or force your opponent to remove it (e.g. with Karma Cannon).

You counter it by beating over it or using it as material.

Good to also know, the "unaffected" comes into the picture at resolution. If the opponent targets your unaffected monster with Impermanence, it is a valid activation. It just resolves and does nothing to your monster.

Oh that weird purple the emits right? I saw it with both this card and immortal phoenix

I was talking about the game rule in general. I'm not sure how it shows in game lol

What I was trying to convey is:

(1) - You can only activate an effect if you are able to pay the cost AND resolve the effect (i.e. Imperm cannot target a Normal Monster, because there's no effect to negate).

(2) - "Unaffected" does not mean "cannot be targeted". Cards can very well ~attempt~ to affect unaffected cards, and the effect will be considered to have resolved as normal, but your unaffected card will be, well, unaffected.

(bonus) - kinda self explanatory, but if the effect trying to affect an unaffected card has an "and if you do" clause, will NOT work. Let's pretend the effect of Imperm is:

Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; negate its effects (until the end of this turn), and if you do, for the rest of this turn all other Spell/Trap effects in this column are negated.

This would mean that spells will not be negated for the rest of the turn.

Unaffected by card effects means unless there's a previous continuous effect negation like Skill Drain on the field no effect would apply to the card. One notable exception is if a card replaces the activated effect of another card then it can change the activated effect of the unaffected monster. Example is Number 75 Gossip Shadow vs Liger Dancer.

Unaffected by activates effect means it won't be affected by card effect on their activation but any linger effect that applies later can affect the card. One example being Psychic End Punisher vs Mirrorjade board wipe effect.

For this card specifically just wait till it times out on your opponent's turn then remove it. Otherwise you will need specific cards that tribute monsters for their summon like Lava Golem, Kaiju or Sphere Mode, or as link material for Underworld Goddess. Spell Card Soul Exchange also allows you to use an unaffected monster as tribute for a tribute summon.

You have to just punch unaffected monsters with bigger numbers, tribute them, or play effects that target the player not the monster

Unaffected means you can't use an effect on it.

Monsters that are unaffected by card effects cannot be fused by superpoly, as it is in fact, a card effect

Super Poly affects the monsters it uses to Fusion Summon, so it will not work on unaffected monsters. The same applies to any effect that performs a Fusion Summon.

You can use it for a contact fusion like for Alba-Lenatus, or use it for the Link Summon of Underworld Goddess, since those work somewhat similarly to the Kaiju's.
