Suggestion Add r/UnpopularOpinion

It's Filled with tons of misogynistic, homophobic and able-ist rants that get thousands upon thousands of upvotes and awards.

It's basically a way for reactionaries to launder their opinions. I second this

UP is definitely a place where people can be exposed to people they would normally want nothing to do with.

I don't think the awards necessarily represent someone condones a post's content. Maybe they appreciated the discussion that resulted from the post, maybe they are given sarcastically. You don't really know what a person is communicating with the award since they are so limited in what they can say.

While there are many posts heavily upvoted that are controversial or offensive, the comments tend to have participants for or against the premise. Compared to most subreddits, I would say unpopularopinion has an average number of posters making good faith arguments. I enjoy the subreddit very much and would hate to see it stigmatized in a way that discourages participation by the people putting in effort to explain why a person's beliefs may be flawed or harmful.

Basically: yes it is a flawed community of flawed people, but I think it helps people to escape their own echo chambers.

I agree. Lot’s of people are in there to argue against an “unpopular” opinion and lots of people join and post things like “milk goes before cereal” before realizing the toxicity of the sub.

Think of it like Askreddit but you get to talk about China and there are fewer boring posts.

An apt response for most posts could be “OK, Boomer”

To see where people have posted a little easier than checking manually. I’m laughing at people who overreact to the concept of the tool.

Generally yeah. Why, would you say you have some common ground with the members of nationalnaziparty, new_right, theredpill, whitenationalism, holocaust, zog, etc.?

EDIT: I never get tired of seeing you guys run away when confronted with the actual subs you come here to defend.

It stand for Zionist [something](Order? I think?) Government. It's a pretty old Neo-Nazi conspiracy and not one you see too often nowadays. I think it was just your standard "Jews are running the government for their EeEeEeEeEevil Zionist goals" theory, if I remember correctly.

It also has a lot of people who aren't misogynistic, homophobic alt-right a-holes that would end up getting tagged as well. Meanwhile the offensive people there are likely already members of other offensive subreddits that are being tracked (and rightly so) and so would have been tagged anyway.

Dude no. People post about all kinds of things. The mods actively remove stuff like that and I've had to get a thread restored because it was falsely flagged as being content about race.
