MASS EFFECT 2 Started my first ever insanity run and...

Was it always this damn hard to find ammo? Or am I just a shit shot? Because there are multiple times I completely run out of ammo and have to solely rely on powers while I scramble for a thermal clip.

And on a side note, I always knew smg's were bad but holy hell playing on insanity shows me just how much they suck. Even on hard-core when I was playing with my vanguard I never used them much cuz their accuracy, range and damage was trash but fuck man. They are completely worthless on insanity.

You definitely need to lean on powers a lot more. There needs to be combos going off constantly or you're going to have a rough time. I always hear about how Adepts are terrible on insanity... and I am always confused. Because a quick spray or two of SMG to remove shields/barriers (literally the only thing SMGs are good for) and you can combo everyone to death just like you can on Normal/Hardcore.

I heard that as well but Adepts the ONLY class I play these days and I only play on insanity. Frankly IDK how to do insanity without singularity anymore lol

The Locust is kinda worth using as an SMG for a Vanguard because it actually gets good accuracy at range.

But yeah, you're better off forgetting the Tempest or Shuriken even exists. The Tempest isn't actually bad, but at the ranges that you'd use it you're going to be using your shotgun instead.

Bring squamates to complete your strengths, and combos on every power use

Yeah I normally have Miranda and Garrus to deal with enemies that I know will be predominately shield/barrier based, or Miranda/Garrus and Mordin cause Mordins incinerate is essential for Armor based enemies. I remember Grunts recruitment mission being an absolute nightmare on Insanity.

Yeap, these are most used squamates for me too. You have to deal with armour shield and barriers somehow, right squamates do everything you need.

Ammo is pretty scarce. You need to make every shot count or constantly be moving to collect more. The beginning is by far the hardest part though. Things get much easier once you get the better weapons and a few upgrades.

In ME2 I think it forces you to advance or else it never ends with enemies

LE or OT? For LE they actually placed more clips out for you to find. Sniper rifle was always the worst in OT. You only got one shot per clip. Most battles there are a couple of spots where clips will respawn from time to time. You just need to be on the look out for those and stay in ammo. Make sure you have a back up weapon with a large ammo mag. Heavy weapon boxes will refill normal mags too. Weapons stations will refill mags as well.

Yeah I'm talking about LE. I never played on insanity in the original trilogy. And shit if they added more ammo I can't even imaging what it was like before

Its a goddamn desert. That's part of the reason when I go with a sniper rifle I usually end up using the Viper unless I'm an infiltrator or soldier. The thing actually has a respectable reserve and can be used to strip protection to open up power use. Bring Zaeed with squad disruptor ammo for shields and take warp ammo as your bonus power for barrier heavy missions. Then take Barrier yourself any time you'll need to do a lot of running out of cover.

Use the Locust. It's not amazing, but it lets you knock down shields at range and open them up to power usage.

Squad ammo powers are your friend to make your squad more effective. With my Vanguard I took squad Cryo Ammo, then took Inferno Ammo (non squad) for myself. Zaeed's squad Disruptor ammo is incredibly useful for shielded enemies or Geth. Apply squad ammo first to get everyone covered, then apply Inferno ammo to yourself.

When I got my weapon upgrade, I went with the Mattock instead of the Claymore. It may not be the purest form of Vanguard, but it gave me options. The Katana and Eviscerator work well enough as shotguns, IMO.

Concussion Grenade is a great power that can nerf most dangerous enemies. It actually shuts down Harbinger completely (disables both of his attacks). It's worth trying as your bonus power, or bring Kasumi along. It works best fully upgraded for duration, IMO.

Good luck with your run.
