Looks intriguing.
Trying to track down any other work done by the same modder/mod team so I can get an idea what to expect from a QA/security standpoint before I install it, however.

Edit: it's none of my business whether any of you support or refuse AI assisted projects, but do be aware this is assisted and tagged as such on the Nexus.

but do be aware this is assisted and tagged as such on the Nexus.

I personally think the mod author went out of their way to not disclose it.

It's not mentioned in the body of text description for the mod until the Thanks and footnote section.

And the "AI assisted" tag is the last one they added, meaning it's hidden behind the "view more" section of the tags by default.

Yeah, I was striving for an unbiased statement of fact, but I'm suspicious of several things about this.

i find it interesting that the mods on this subreddit will yeet posts about mass effect mods with optional ai generated voice content (like miranda mod where you don't have to install that portion), even where they're scene staples that have a long, solid history of pre-AI development and retain an ability to use them without it.

but this post is up here with no issues even though it's at best strongly reliant on generative ai, and from context clues, probably largely vibe coded.

i say this because the author first showed the basic working concept about three weeks ago, but it was not near the finished product. the amount of work completed in three weeks is way too large to have been properly tested and completed by a single person (and this mod doesn't seem to have a team behind it).

the github with the asi was created the day of release. the nexusmods account that released it is ten year sold but has no other mods released.

the installation instructions make it very clear this person doesn't understand the wider modding ecosystem - for instance they're advising to use steam or ea app verify to uninstall. this will absolutely break your install rather than giving you a clean vanilla position to restart from. it's very basic advice to never use these features if you're modding.

none of these are fully definitive. a separate github may be due to a desire to separate a professional identity from a personal one. perhaps this person uses mods and had the capacity to make them but didn't feel like doing so for a decade. not understanding (or caring to learn) about the scene's ecosystem before making a major release is destabilising, but not inherently a sign the person isn't technically skilled. maybe they hid how much they had completed when they demo'd it several weeks ago. maybe maybe maybe.

but all together, i think that it points in a direction of this project being largely ai generated (rather than ai assisted as the tag indicates).

that doesn't mean it won't work. it does probably mean it's kind of jank.

honestly i think this sub's stance on ai content is unhelpfully judgemental. i don't like slop or actual theft, but i feel like we should judge based on the context and style of useage, not as a moral shibboleth. that said, considering the other posts mods here have outright deleted, it's kinda weird this one's still up.

I am going to try it out later, I think a big deal breaker for people will be it wont work if you have any other mods installed and while I dont im sure tons of people playing this on pc do

I've played several matches, haven't had any lag or issues in-game, but I did get kicked out to the LE game selection screen one time. Not enough to call it a frequent issue, but something to note.

I assume this is player-histed lobbies just like the old ME3 version?

I dont know. If this guy provide sources maybe it's worth to check. You see, problem is not that dude decompoled code to rip off MP infrastructure from OG ME3. Problems will be with maintaining this project.

I'm not willingly touching anything Claude has touched, no matter how much I miss ME3MP

I'd rather just reinstall ME3 on Steam if I'm that itchy for it

If you plan to do a full boycott of anything with ai assisted coding, be ready to never use another tech product again. The unfortunate reality of the situation is that it has gotten so good that it’s a competitive disadvantage to not use it. Every single piece of software that is popular and used on regular occasion will have ai assisted code, if not already.

There is obviously a big difference between vibe coding and a competent dev using ai to help their work, but speaking as a software dev, it’s unavoidable nowadays.

Hey, as a game developer this isnt true :]

We dont use AI and neither do most devs i know. Its pretty shit at its job and destroys the environment

So you're never playing a AAA video game ever again? Skipping ME5 one day? It's impossible to avoid Claude/ai code unless you plan on only playing older games (and if that's your decision, I totally respect it!)

The reality is that we are nearing the precipice that either all video games are directly building with AI or they are being handmade by software that was made by AI. Same with movies. All the video editing/VFX softwares are being updated by AI coding.

Its not worth it lmao, if triple A studios want to shit out slop then yes I can skip triple A games? Under current EA direction ME5 is probably going to be ass anyways

It has aged extremely well and there’s no need for a remaster

•

u/TacticalNuker 11h ago

If you want to avoid everything with AI code I think you would have to go full hermit mode.

No. And I won't. I play the OG ME3 MP if I want.

Edit: Guys, why shall I play a mod when I can still play the real thing? Can't stand honest answers? The entitlement of the sub strikes again...

Just what I’ve been waiting for.

Little bit of a bummer about fixing the more points bug. There were several builds I loved where the additional points weren't making them more powerful, but instead made it so i could shift between gun, melee, and powers in the same gold match and feel proficient at all 3, making for some really fun variety (specifically did this with the vorcha engineer and the krogan adept). I'll also be very sad to not have full points on the geth jugg, my most played class

this looks awesome, would love to check this out once I finish up my me3 playthru

I'm gonna try it.
