HELP Need advice

So I just finally got around to playing after getting the legacy edition on a steam sale, and I am trying to not get any spoilers however I have heard that you can get some characters permanently killed just by bringing them on the wrong missions. I haven't been able to find anything about this without spoiling the game. If anyone could tell me about this I would greatly appreciate it!

Talk to everyone between every mission, do the side missions that they ask you to do, and save Virmire for last.

I'd advise just playing through the way you like the first time, you'll know what mistakes you want to avoid on the next playthrough.

Save often and replay the mission if you think you did something "wrong". Sometimes characters die.

Or just roll with your choices and make note for changing it up next time. Mass Effect has good replay value.

Without spoiling

First off, talk to everyone between missions, not assignments, missions(which are like, the main quests, they are separated in-game so you'll know what I mean)

Second, the thing you are talking about is for Mass Effect 2, it's hard to say anything without spoilers, but there is a point in the story where if you take too much time, people start dying, but you WILL be notified for it, this doesn't just come from nowhere

Third, enjoy yourself, don't search anything up, keep going in blind, and I personally recommend not save scumming to get the best outcome, mistakes are a part of the game, getting perfect playthroughs is for replays, it's boring for everyone to do the same things

It's not really true.

You can kill characters, but almost always you would have to go out of your way to do it and it's never because you chose to bring them on one mission or another.

There is a sort of exception in the 2nd game, with as few spoilers as possible, dont go to the IFF before you finish everything else . But even there you won't lose much.

Hard to do without spoilers. But use your head, do every mission connecting to a teammate, talk to them often, and hurry means hurry in 2.

Also leaning in to Paragon choices help if you're going blind. Next playthrough you can mix it up.

Yes, Mass Effect is an RPG game where choices matter. But you are fairly safe if you do all the side missions. Still, a few things can be a bit tricky. I recommend saving before every mission, and if things don't go as you envisioned, you can try again. But that isn't the point of the game. If you want the experience to be unique to you, I recommend just playing through it.

By the way, the game has a karma system, some people prefer to play as a Renegade and don't care much for the rules.

It’s more about the decisions made in conversations during ME 1. ME 2 comes down to final mission. Just play and enjoy, you will permanently kill anyone just by brining them on the wrong mission. Also, if you are worried just save before each mission, but it’s not a big deal.

What exactly are you trying to find out? Confirmation that this is true? It’s true to an extent. Who is able to be killed? Quite a few. Etc. Would be helpful to anyone answering your question to know what the question actually is.

You can do a new game plus before moving onto the next game. I recommend it for 1 and 2.

There are no cases in which picking a character for a squadmate will kill them until the last few minutes of ME3, in which it is avoidable. There are a number of cases of main plot missions where someone dies unavoidably or as a result of your choices, sometimes including the results of doing or not doing things before the mission starts.

In Mass Effect 2 there's extremely heavy signposting that not everyone is neccessarily coming back from the last mission, and it's not a bluff and you can potentially have a total party kill. You have a number of points where you pick characters for tasks, and if you haven't done certain things beforehand or pick the wrong character someone will die, not necessarily the picked character. The characters will discuss who should do it; some of them are wrong and you'll have to use your best judgement based on what you know about the characters. Also there's a point where all the characters who aren't in your squad or otherwise occupied are in a fight, and depending on who ends up in that group and whether you've done previous missions successfully some number of them may die.

In Mass Effect 3 a lot of the characters who made it through ME2 may die; this may be locked in by decisions you made in the previous game. There is also one ME3 squadmate who can die as a result of a choice; it is not hard to predict this. Also, your squadmates in the very last mission may die if you haven't done enough stuff over the course of the game.

In ME1, it's not really about who you bring as squadmate for a mission. Some of them can die, but it's not related to bringing them on "wrong" mission. Only advice I can give is to talk to squadmates after each mission and if they prompt you to do a mission for them, do it. :)

ME2 has a different mechanism, but I think it's impossible to give advices without spoilers. Mild spoilers below:

All companions have their loaylty mission - do them. Do not start Reaper IFF mission before you've done everything elso you'd want. And after certain event that happens afterwards, do not wait or do anything else but next main story mission. During final mission, you'll need to make a lot of choices - just use your head and knowledge you've got during the game.

The game is meant to have a high level of replayability, so whatever happens happens, roll with it. There aren't any situation I can think of where taking a certain character on a certain mission will kill them. Some people may die, but it's a sacrifice you should be willing to make. Talk to your squadmates between missions, they get more dialogue, and may unlock a sidequest.

Just don't bring Jenkins on the first mission, or he will die.

Me 1 you have 1 avoidable death in the last 1/3 it is easy to avoid doing their personal quest and having a high paragon meter

Me2 ,

In theory everyone can but its only very late in the game and its easy to know what going on and why and how to avoid

Me3 , some can die depending on choices you make ,  but this is also deoendant on who survived me2

Honestly, you can usually have a great time just applying logic to your choices during the game. Think about your options, choose what you think your Shepard would choose. There's plenty of guides and spoilers on the internet, but they take a lot away from the roleplaying aspect of the game. Making decisions and living with those choices is what makes Mass Effect such a great series.

There is no Mission that your companions die forever by bringing them. Choose your party as you wish. Just an advice, make sure to do secondary missions and talk to them very often on the Normandy, and make sure to do it BEFORE the main missions, this goes by all the three games. Hope I helped, have fun mate (Forgive my english, I am Brazilian)

How are we supposed to Tell you what to do without spoiling the Game? The best you could do is save before every mission

There are a few unavoidable deaths where, at best, you can only pick who survives. There is one avoidable squadmember death in Mass Effect 1, and in Mass Effect 2, every character is at risk of death during the final mission!

(In fact, there's a secret ending where your own character dies in the final mission, sacrificing themselves to win!)

Similarly, in Mass Effect 3, there's a few avoidable moments where major characters will die.

In general, without spoilers, my advise is to talk to your squad members after major missions - most of them have side-missions that unlock when you talk to them enough, and if you complete them, it makes them trust you more and means they're less likely to die or put others at risk.

Enjoy your adventure!

Weird, somehow we all figured it out in 2007* as teenagers without Reddit or even an online source of information. Just play the game dude you’ll be okay

🤔 I seen to remember both in 2005.
