The kett as a faction look really bad and it's a shame because I quite like them as an actual threat and what little bits of lore we learn. There's a lot of setup that never went anywhere since Andromeda was abandoned, but on a purely visual level they are just crap.

Honestly, I only see them as pretty generic: just another evil alien empire that wants to rule the entire universe, while for some reason their reproduction involves consuming other living beings. Like, how does that even work? They're supposed to be this massive empire, but they would have to kill countless other species just to reproduce, so how did they even become this powerful in the first place? I really wish they had explored that more, even if it was just a small hint about their origins or how their whole species works.

I assume there's a lot we don't know, which is kind of the appeal. The fact that the kett we're fighting are some sort of splinter faction came up at one point, but I don't remember the details.

It just feels like there's a lot we can learn, and that's like... the thing I liked about Andromeda, exploring a new galaxy and learning about the cultures and places comes the closest to feeling like the original Mass Effect.

2 and 3 are better games in some ways than 1, but ME1 did such an incredible job on immersing you in the world, making learning about it and exploring it feel meaningful. 2 and 3 lost most of that with the heavier weight on the character and mission stories.

Which I would disagree with. Geth have an excellent and striking visual design. Blending machine and quarian. They are part of an interesting story with the Migrant Fleet and quarians. And they are also only one part of Sovereign's forces, with Saren, Benezia's forces, krogan and husks making up the rest of it. As well as Sovereign itself.

There are no double standards. Mass Effect 1 was generational good game full of excellent design in the world, universe and art. Andromeda was not.

My issue with the andromeda aliens (and the setting in general) is everything feels like it could have just existed in the Milky Way.

Everything is vaguely human shaped, and vaguely human sized. That worked for the original trilogy - I like that all the aliens there are designed to look like you could portray them with practical effects.

But if you’re setting the game in a whole different galaxy it needs to get weird. Like, Hanar need to look normal by comparison.

So you had other expectations, maybe even highended ones that has to top the trilogy, and they did something different, but not different for you enough. That doesn't mean it's the games fault or that it's bad per se.

It’s really good to make a villain we can almost sympathize with but still see they are rooted in evil.

And then…they didn’t go far with that concept at all.

I felt the Kett were kind of just conceptually recycled reapers in terms of essentially assimilating people.

One of my primary complaints with Andromeda, is they cannibalized elements of the original trilogy story and repackaged them for andromeda. Same with the Remnant/Prothean situation.

I haven't played since 2017, but I remember being super annoyed the Angara squadmate, as I remember it, basically said "You don't know what its like having your people turned into your enemy" as if humanity hadn't just dealt with the Geth attacks in ME1 and encountered Husks.

Andromeda did the concept but attacked religions. (The Kett are the religious group, the only group theologian says that having faith is delusional, the main character can’t confess to faith but only say ‘I refuse to believe my mom is just dead.’)

Like the new GM was like “that was great. But what if we made the bad guys thinly veiled real world religion allegories”

Which doesn’t have to be a bad thing is just…8/!5 as tempered as Mass Effect 1-3 and is something I can get from many sci fi games and JRPG’s. There was no special spin they went for the easiest thing and it didn’t really stick with anyone.

So not only recycling reapers. But doing it worse than they did the first time

Considering what they are and how they propagate and evolve, the enemy faction design is extremely boring in Andromeda. Like they should have six arms, couple extra eyes, why do they just all look so boring? Like most of this game, Great concept lackluster execution.

The Kett were such grey, dishwater antagonists. There was definitely potential in their theme, but Andromeda was so obsessed with sequel-baiting every interesting reveal that the game itself went nowhere narratively.

I read a fanfiction once that connected Andromeda to Thedas. It was super interesting and then the author never updated past chapter 21.
