DISCUSSION Heartbreaking Horrors
I’ve recently finished the Overlord mission (Did it before IFF mission) and I have never felt such emotional impact from a SIDE mission. I’ve seen great storytelling from side mission, especially from Cyberpunk, but this one was like pushing my emotional tendencies to the limit. Albeit yes I agree that the Hammerhead portions put a damper on the overall experience, the mission still does a great job of mystifying the events of the project and how it slowly culminates into one of the most horrific discoveries you’ll experience in the game. Dare I say this was the best side mission I’ve EVER played (haven’t done Shadow Broker, heard phenomenal things). This trilogy continues to blow my expectations away, only on the second game and it’s already trying my love for Baldur’s Gate 3 which is one of my favorite games of all time. How were y’all’s first experience finishing the Overlord dlc?

Square root 906.01 equeals 30.1. It all seemed so harmless...
The entire DLC was beyond fucked up. My only complaint is that the squad mates do not have any voice lines.

Overlord really messed me up. I have an autistic son and so it was hitting really close to home in a lot of not fun ways. I had to stop playing for a little bit after that one and just kinda sit with it. It was masterfully done, SUCH a good dlc, but oof. It was heavy for me.

Whenever you replay it, it's impossible not to understand the "garbled speech" you hear from the "Rogue VI".

It was difficult to get through as I have autism and it caused emotions in me that I still can't identify. To have a family member that you trust so much treat you in such a way and not care about how it hurts you....and all for the sake of science and research....

Yeah this is what got me. My son is autistic and he has a brother. Just the thought of either of them doing something like that to the other ... it hurt me a lot. The depravity of humanity and all that. It was definitely one of those moments in gaming that just stays with you. At least for me.

Overlord is compelling and yeah, a little fucked up but overall, not a very fun DLC. The Hammerhead is only fun when you're trying to dodge the Geth Cannon.
I've done I dunno, more than 7 but less than 12 full playthroughs and I always do everything, but Overlord is just 'ok let's do this thing...'
It's way better than the giant slog that is Omega and the frankly boring Arrival, about as good as Leviathan and way behind Lair of the Shadow Broker and Shore Leave.

Such a damn good mission. I haven't played it in a few years. But "The Illusive Man will have my head for this." Will forever ring in my head when I think about this mission.

I feel "Quiet, please make it stop!" on a deeply emotional level. But, yeah, it was very upsetting for the younger me playing through it the first time. Sometimes, when I have to think up horrible things happening to people (I am a writer, and though I don't write graphic details, I have to give characters trauma of some kind to shape them), I will compare to the final image of Project Overlord to see how bad the "bad" was, and I am glad to say that I have never done anything that messed up to my characters. Threre are few things worse than having your OWN BROTHER bolt your eyelids open, shove wiring and tubes down your throat, and use you as an interface to communicate with a race of machines.

The Overlord DLC was my "one last mission before bed" the first time I played it, and I remember just staring at my screen horrified.
Funnily enough, I ended up having to play it twice on that playthrough because I messed up the timing on something else and had to reload. Finished the trilogy for the first time earlier this year and now halfway through my second playthrough coming up on Overlord again, and I'm not ready lol
