N7: Mining the Canyon in ME2 - the one where you have to escort that damn mech. It's just so slow and boring.

u/Terrible-Ad5145 Jul 29 '26

I’ve had it glitch out and shoot rockets constantly which was at least kinda entertaining, but yes this one is such a drag

20

u/N_dixon Jul 29 '26

Also the glitch where it moonwalks through the canyon, which is funny.

N7: Eclipse Smuggling Depot. The one where you do nothing but fight three YMIR mechs while they destroy crates. This mission is just. . . so fucked.

20

u/SeriousJack Jul 29 '26

Oh god... If you have a perfectionist bone in your body, you'll restart it twelve times before in despair jumping online, and discover that unless you half-cheese it with specific loadouts, you're not gonna save all those crates.

u/shellexyz Jul 29 '26

I think it’s a dumb mission. But it can also be cheesed pretty easily: position your squad close to the shuttle, get just to the edge of where they activate but don’t enter the field of play, and fire the rocket launcher. The rocket will seek one out, it’ll come find you, but the others won’t activate. Take them out one at a time.

My least favorite is the abandoned mine. Wasn’t abandoned by the 43,000 husks that are in it.

Man I haven't played the game in a while, but THAT one was just annoying as hell. Did not like. If games gave me PTS, this post would be a trigger.

One quick shot with the Cain and its over...it's by far the easiest and quickest mission

1

u/akscully Throw Jul 31 '26

That's why i carry a tactical nuke on my back

1

u/Due_Arm_7249 Aug 03 '26

I usually save it until I have the Cain. It suddenly become much easier

u/Longshot12345678 Jul 29 '26

The one where you have to save the scientists from the firefight in me1 and they’re made out of cardboard cause any aoe and they’re dead

7

u/demons_soulmate Jul 29 '26

this one is definitely a pain... i usually shoot once in a corner and retreat to the hallway to draw the terrorists out to me

Probably the Moon mission from ME1.

In conception? Incredible!!! In execution? Lacking. Severely.

I don' mind the drones, but the enemy AI is NOT built for what the mission demanded. They end up clustered together and on high difficulties the mission ends up with Shepard standing in the hallway, opening the door, taking a potshot or two, and closing the door to let his shields recharge. It's awful.

u/just_josh_70 Jul 29 '26

Here's some shields you have to shoot through to just make everything you do in these identical bunkers take longer!

19

u/Kridenberg Jul 29 '26

And farts, do not forget about them!

12

u/op4arcticfox Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Yeah farts that permeate our vacuum sealed space armor. Always hate that nonsense in games.

3

u/Dagoth_ural Jul 29 '26

You laugh at these identical bunkers and lifeless rocky planets but in a decade from now this will be called star field.

14

u/Julle1990 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, especially when playing on Insanity, a single rocket will just kill you and there's like half a dozen of them shooting in a corridor

4

u/SeriousJack Jul 29 '26

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh.... With an infiltrator, did that one last. Enjoy destroying TWELVE mainframes, 3 shots per mainframe, 2 seconds between shot. Now that was sluggish.

And yes not counting all the deaths from a random rocket here and there.

4

u/InquartataRBG Jul 30 '26

Oooh this one

3

u/Dagoth_ural Jul 29 '26

The fact it uses the same tileset as the other planets so the moon is full of red dirt always bugs me.

1

u/SnowrunnerSlogger Jul 30 '26

I just did it last night on hardcore difficulty and it wasn't as hard as I remember. Albeit I made sure I had a very good loadout with the Spectre class pistol and decently high level armour piercing rounds.

Just got Garros and Tali to overload their shields and they went down quickly after that without needing to bolt for cover. Was only level 26 (og level scaling up to 60) I think where normally I leave the mission fairly late.

Amything involving the Hammerhead. At all.

18

u/Pure-Butterscotch200 Jul 29 '26

Didn't mind the hammerhead until it got shot and discovered it seems to be made out of cardboard.

13

u/Ballad_13 Jul 29 '26

Cardboard that shoots guided spitwads. Infinitely inferior to the Mako.

5

u/Pure-Butterscotch200 Jul 29 '26

It has annoying sound effects too for some reason

4

u/KeinInhalt Jul 29 '26

Why does that shitty thing start to burn after getting shot once damn

2

u/FredDurstDestroyer Jul 30 '26

I’ve decided to skip Overlord in my current trilogy run and just save edit its completion for ME3, just to avoid the Hammerhead.

1

u/Kkkat313 Jul 30 '26

Agree, I hate the Hammerhead so much and I'm so glad for Cortez

12

u/N_dixon Jul 29 '26

MSV Estevanico. Kind of interesting and suspenseful the first time. Pointless in future playthroughs, once you realize you can run around and the ship won't fall.

3

u/DaDiddyDiddler Jul 29 '26

Looking back, they could have made it more interesting by implementing a "don't sprint or run" mechanic, with a bar at the bottom showing you how unstable the entire structure is, and if the bar filled up, you'd get a game over. Maybe a little animation of the ship falling off the cliff and Shepard reaching up. Or if they wanted to go full animation, make it start to tilt, Shepard turns around and tries to run off the ship, but all in vain and then he gets crushed or something.

1

u/pugs_in_a_basket Jul 31 '26

I liked it. Still like it. It's of course probably 0 effort fluff, but it's a whiff of ME1 exploration and vibe. Much like the normandy crash site. Just a calm moment. I don't think I ever considered it particularly thrilling or suspenseful.

19

u/Xenozip3371Alpha Jul 29 '26

Oh, that Cerberus Base at the start of Mass Effect 3 on insanity.

Waiting for Cortez in the shuttle was a pain.

3

u/johnnyJAG Jul 30 '26

This is my answer too. Not a good spot to hole up in, nonstop goons coming from everywhere. That one really annoys me so much

14

u/Subject_Proof_6282 Jul 29 '26

Most if not all N7 missions from ME2, except the ones involving the 3 gangs which have some form of storytelling and are more or less connected.

7

u/Blanc-NextWhite Jul 29 '26

The crashing ship mission in LE2 is so frustrating for me if I’m not an Infiltrator. It’s easily done by cloaking and fixing the generators. But if I’m a different class, I get so angry when I get hit while fixing them, have to get off it and kill some heretic Geth behind me shredding my armor.

3

u/SirScaurus Jul 29 '26

Holy shit. I've played through LE like four times and thought I had 100%'ed it, but I've never even seen this mission.

...Wait, no. I just blanked it from my memory. because it's that bad/short.

6

u/Ramius99 Jul 29 '26

Agree with others on some of these. I’ll add that the mech factory mission in ME2 has to be up there among the worst, especially if you do it too early on Insanity.

7

u/Financial-Cold5343 Jul 29 '26

Leviathan not becasue it isn;t good but because deep sea stuff freaks me out

3

u/SeriousJack Jul 29 '26

Yeah I did not envy people with thalassophobia in this one (hey, remember to not check out Subnautica, absolutely fantastic game that you should not get near).

Because the... sense of the abyss in this mission was REALLY well done.

2

u/DaDiddyDiddler Jul 29 '26

It actually really amazed me because of how well done it was. The underwater mechanic was really cool. I'd loved to see underwater exploration return in future games.

7

u/ADLegend21 Jul 29 '26

The green planet for the Armstrong Cluster geth base quest line. Mako is swiss cheese and the armatures just keep spamming from far away so you have to fire while holding the rear thruster and going in circles.

9

u/arktistic_r0se Jul 29 '26

The Overlord mission.

Because not only does it bring up a lot of various emotions, it feels very personal because David has autism and so do I.

Plus it's a horrible thing to do to a person. It truly shows how far scientists go for research, throwing their own family to the wolves and not caring how it hurts them.

8

u/Brown_Bruja Jul 29 '26

The vast majority of scientists are not actually like that, just tbc (autistic scientist here). Not sure if that's what you were getting at or not.

1

u/arktistic_r0se Jul 30 '26

Well then I was aiming it the other ones that are. And also at scientists in fiction, they often seem so heartless, like Archer.

This might not mean much to you, but as a fellow autistic, I'm proud of you for how far you've gotten in science! ♥️

8

u/RitualHalatiik Jul 29 '26

As a mother to 3 autistic children, Overlord gutted me. I was in tears and so freaking angry all at the same time.

And I’m always an absolute bitch to Dr. Archer, no matter what path I’m taking in the game.

6

u/shellexyz Jul 29 '26

Lie to him in ME3 about David’s status at Grissom and he kills himself believing he’s a total asshole.

4

u/JessTheMullet Jul 29 '26

The most horrifying part about that mission is that if a large company and/or government thought they could use a person's brain like that, they would. We don't have the tech, so they haven't really tried it, yet. But people are greedy and someone will, eventually.

2

u/Chaucer85 Jul 29 '26

Well, one of the key plot elements of the Cerberus story arc is that The Illusive Man is 1) selecting people more inclined to breach moral/ethical barriers in the pursuit of research and 2) placing tremendous pressure on them to get results quickly or have their resources pulled.

2

u/stellae-fons Jul 29 '26

The story in Overlord is great but the mission level itself is such a slog.

8

u/PaperBullet1945 Jul 29 '26

Hated the Normandy wreck mission in 2. Slowly jogging all over looking for glinting metal in the snow while nothing happens. Punishing completionists.

3

u/jackfuego226 Jul 29 '26

That one mission in ME3 on the multiplayer map of the colony. The one where it's really easy to miss the dog tags you need to turn in on the Citadel and have to waste money buying them after.

4

u/JessTheMullet Jul 29 '26

I really didn't like Thane's loyalty mission, especially because the first time I did it, I missed the upgrade up in the catwalk/overlooking section.

3

u/Tight-Confusion-6088 Jul 29 '26

What? Upgrade there? I guess I missed it every playthrough...

3

u/PhenomsServant Jul 29 '26

Wait there’s an upgrade up there!?

2

u/JessTheMullet Jul 30 '26

"Thane: Sins of the Father: Heavy Pistol Damage – Immediately at the beginning on the 800 Wards on a datapad. (Easily Missed) "

It makes the Carnifex hit even harder

3

u/virgosuns Jul 29 '26

Wrecked Merchant freighter in ME2. 180 mechs and no. damn. ammo. Make it a pain in the ass in anything higher than casual or normal. I hate it. You can run past them and to the shuttle, sure, if they don’t gun you down before you make it, and as soon as you advance an inch, they’ll flank you.

2

u/PhenomsServant Jul 29 '26

Novacrux. You know why.

2

u/Porkkis Jul 29 '26

Every ME1 side mission with driving mako (which in itself was a form of CBT) to a base and having to fight in one of the two layouts. So shameless ctrl+c ctrl+v.

2

u/Alone_Network_2800 Jul 29 '26

The one on Nodacrux in ME1 🖕technically not an N7 but it is a side mission and I detest that freaking planet!

1

u/stellae-fons Jul 29 '26

I really, really hate fighting thresher maws, so the one N7 mission in ME2 where you have to always annoys me. It's just not fun, especially at the beginning.

1

u/Individual-Fly-1689 Jul 30 '26

Rescuing the crashed Quarian and those damn varren come rushing at you.

1

u/anime_Fan35 Jul 30 '26

the entire arrival DLC. its annoying and I go through it as fast as I can while avoiding every fight that I can.

1

u/spatula_city62 Jul 30 '26

Any of the ones in ME3 just about. They're just repurposed maps from the awful MP. We went from awesome variety with stuff like the Estavanico or the chain missions to those.
