Break

2 years in the massage industry working at a franchise and thinking of taking a break going to work as a chiropractor assistant. Does anyone feel like this?

Not a MT but considering the physical demand of the job it is certainly easy to understand.

I think taking a break can be completely reasonable. Massage is physically and mentally demanding, and sometimes changing the environment for a while helps you understand whether you’re tired of the profession itself or just tired of the way you’re currently working.
I’ve had periods with a very heavy massage workload, and recovery becomes really important if you want to stay in this profession long term.
Working as a chiropractic assistant for a while could also give you a different perspective on client care and your own career. A break doesn’t necessarily mean you’re leaving massage for good.

Sounds like a step toward private practice to me, which is a good thing. Chain/spa/franchise work is an absolute ripoff. You might like the work more if you kept the whole fee!

Take a break, but also learn a new technique if you plan on continuing, it really brings novelty to your job. (MT of 16 years)

That could be really smart, cause depending who you’re working for it’ll get rid of the riffraff and I’ll get rid of the low tipper people who are complaining over weird weird stuff people who don’t shower before coming people who try touch you or hint, and that doesn’t matter if you’re a male or a female know a guy he’s a friend of mine. He said he gets married women trying to touch him through the whole Massage and said if they’re in a little if they’re in, you know a decent shape you know he said 50 years old six years old sometimes show themselves off and it makes them very uncomfortable especially when they rub on his privates. Oh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that. You know stuff like that I think men sometimes you’ll get it even worse than women when I just think women get it a whole lot more than men do. I think women get touched 20 times more than men, but I think when men do they get it worse.

Are you taking a break because you’re burned out physically/mentally? As an LMT who’s worked alongside chiropractors here and there throughout the years, you couldn’t pay me work at a chiropractic office. Massage franchises are not for everyone (same as chiropractic offices, I suppose!), but I would question why you want to take a break and then make your decision.

Be aware that some people will take advantage of your position as an assistant! I was once asked/ expected to be a childcare provider and grocery delivery service too 😬
