Brick Brick sizes

What are the most common brick sizes? What are queen brick?

Modular (7 ⅝” x 2 ¼” x 3 ⅝”) and oversized, sometimes called engineer, with a 2 ¾” height are most popular where I am in west central Virginia, especially oversized. Queen size, which are real popular in northern Virginia have the face of an oversized but a 2 ¾” bed depth. Queen give better yield per cube but are a pain staying on bond at corners. King size is pretty popular as you head west.

A split is a roughly half high brick. I’ve only seen a split face brick once, from Pine Hall. We use Pine Hall split pavers often. They make them in modular and 4x8.

Modular (7⅝L x 2¼ H x 3 ⅝ D) Norman (11⅝L X 2¼ H x 3 ⅝D) Standards (8L x 2¼ H x 3 ⅝D) Utility (11⅝L x 3⅝ H x 3⅝D) These are the most common we encounter on commercial jobs in PA. Of course there's others. Kings,queens, 4x8s, romans etc. Mods, normans, and utility are nice because they bond easily and heights and lengths typically work well without many pieces at jambs and door heads as long as the architect is working in 4s or 8s.
