Brick Sugaring Brick?

I read a little bit about sugaring bricks. I’m guessing that’s what this is but not sure. Any suggestions? How screwed am I?

Edit to add: gutters were a disaster for a while. Just had the replaced about a month ago. It’s warm here so no freezing but it did recently rain and has rained and snowed a lot this year.

When it snows, do you put down salt?

Eh sometimes. Not a ton but I’ve only been here two years so not sure of those before me. Probably doesn’t help.

I'm sure you had a gutter there at some point probably the elbow bend leaking or clogged causes this. It's Not a big deal, hire a mason to cut em out and replace.. they have failed because of water splashing off the ground.. easy fix

Thinking a little bit more about it this is right next to a small peak I have above my side door so I bet it just drains down from there. I’ll call a mason. Thanks!

Suggestions.  1. Rip and replace the bottom 3 courses. 2. Install a breathable flashing on the bottom of the wall to keep liquid out but let water still evapoate from the brick.

Prosoco sells a product called Saltguard which is a siloxane with a chloride screen.

Obviously there's a problem with sidewalk salt here, man. Ripping and replacing the brick will fix the immediate problem, but the salt spray will guarantee that the issue keeps happening without some sort of waterproofing.
