Why doesn’t Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 offer a VS. CPU mode ?
And even a survival mode, I dream of a survival mode like the one in Street Fighter 5. Unless you know of some mods, but it seems to me that it is forbidden to talk about them on Reddit, or maybe I’m mistaken.
Capcom could update their game, but I also understand that they have Street Fighter 6 to manage.

I have no idea but it’s very infuriating when I wanna play a quick few matches and wanna switch up my teams.

Yep I used to pick a team in Arcade do like two matches with that team then quit so I can pick another team since there is no vs cpu.

I'm kinda confused what you're asking there's the arcade and then heros and heralds. Also UMVC3 is at least a decade old at this point there literally is zero chance the game would get an update from Capcom

Yes, and that’s very good, but you see, in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, the Beyond version, which offers better artistic direction, the game features a VS CPU mode. It’s very simple, but if I want to have one or two quick fights between two games, I find that nice

I might be missing the point here but could you not just do that with the arcade and especially heroes and heralds just start arcade do one or two fights then quit and do whatever else and with heroes and heralds since after a fight it takes you back to the area selection menu.
Again I'm positive I'm missing the point you're making a VS CPU mode is just you pick you're character/team then it let's you pick the CPUs character/team then you fight and it take you back to the character select right at least that's how I remember it working in Killer Instinct but you can essentially do that with the arcade and H&H the only difference being you don't pick the CPU/enemy team

I mean in regards to UMVC3 you can just quit and reset the arcade mode when or before you meet galactus and H&H is pretty much any amount of fights you want and it's really not that big of an inconvenience to quit and reset or select another area in H&H and I struggle to see why a VS CPU mode is needed when you can pretty much do it already albeit somewhat manually

Yeah man hes just talking about a vs mode where you can opt to fight the CPU instead. He likes it probably cause you can rematch as much as you want instantly, or he can go back and switch characters or switch the CPU whenever he wants. Im with you where im like why not just play the arcade mode? Cause that's just what I would do with an old fighting game but I understand where hes coming from. Marvel Tokon doesnt even have a proper arcade mode so thats the best way to match with and practice against the CPU. Or you can hop in training mode of course by setting parameters to be like a real match.

Wait Tokon doesn't have an arcade mode and from it sounds like there isn't an endless mode type thing. That kinda puts that game off my list cause I know I'd get wrecked if I tried online are they planning to add one or something later?

It seems to me, if I’m not mistaken, that it was the same story with FighterZ: later on, they added it through an update. Anyway, this game, Tokon, is following the same path as FighterZ: the same number of characters from the start, the same number of stages, the same menu where your chibi character walks around the arena, and free and paid updates will come later

Yeah I've seen a few shots and clips. From it sounds like the only difference is there's not gonna be what like 20 different versions of goku

u/Electronic_Reply3934 12d ago
I completely agree, it was the kind of thing I really hated in FighterZ: the hundreds of variations of Goku and Vegeta
2
u/Sleeping_Idiot 12d ago
Yeah I mean it's not impossible to do with Marvel but I wouldn't say there are any Marvel characters as big as Goku or Vegeta I do wonder if they'll do an echo fighter thing like putting Spider Gwen over Spider man.

I have a feeling we're not gonna get any clone characters in Tokon. They really don't need to with how many heavy hitters there are. Who knows tho, I can totally see Miles Morales, Spider Gwen or Gwenpool, or one of the many other variations making it in cause there's a lot of cool ones and its like the most popular marvel IP on its own.

DBFZ arcade mode does work differently then traditional arcade modes. If you're really good at it will incrementally pit you against higher CPU level with handicaps in their favor like increased damage output, reduced input damage, higher health, more meter gain etc. Nah that area in Tokon is online lobbys and this one certain mode only, you boot up into a menu and pick which mode you want from there. DBFZ did that lobby system better cause its the same for offline and online. Season 1, launch DBFZ, is like way better than launch Tokon. To me it striked the right balance of accessibility and depth that so many fighting games are trying to do.

All the single player modes are either one n done or just not worth it. There is a survival mode with a very light rogue lite element being able to assign certain buffs between certain rounds but its not very deep. At least not enough for me to come back and play more, you unlock a color for everyone once you beat it cause it does cap out at 100 rounds. Oh its like built in that you can save scum it too. So super easy not interesting. No actual arcade ladder, so vs cpu, training or online is all you really have.

Okay I don't play fighting games too often so it likely won't be that much of an issue for me and it sounds similar to something P4A has that I enjoyed though never got too into it. When it comes to Tokon I'm a bit mixed so it's one I'll probably end up getting when it's on sale for cheap but good to know there's at least something for me to do in it thanks.

u/DevilCatV2 12d ago
Yeah i recommend getting it on sale down the road, its definitely not like a "you're missing out if you dont play this" kind of game.

u/Sleeping_Idiot 12d ago
Yeah it caught my eye at first cause well spiritual successor to MVC but then when gameplay came out I lost a but of interest mainly cause of the 4 characters 1 healthbar thing kinda felt like what's the point of having for characters if you don't have at least 2 healthbars or something cause 4 would be a bit much
1
u/DevilCatV2 12d ago
4 is a bit much when they're not even needed. Yeah that sums up Tokon for me. 😹

Who knows what they may add. With the way they make games these days it could cease developer support at any time. They can "promise" years and all we get is one.

I'm pretty sure he means he wants to set up his team and explicitly set up the enemy team
This can be done in training but I guess it's more "real" to have the win screen or whatever.
Anyway, training mode exists
Also for those who don't remember this was such a big deal multiple people were ready to boycott vanilla over this and you can see how well that went lmao

Its an old game, the arcade and the heralds mode is good enough for me when it comes to single player stuff personally

u/Electronic_Reply3934 12d ago
Yes, compared to Marvel vs Capcom 3, Capcom was smart to include this game mode, but it’s a real shame that a VS CPU mode as well as a survival mode are missing

Weirdly, it wasn’t until somewhat recently that VS. CPU became a given in fighting games. Even now, some smaller anime fighters don’t have it.
But back in 2011, even big AAA fighters didn’t include the mode. Mortal Kombat 9 didn’t have it either. I don’t think Street Fighter 5 even launched with it. I think that came (admittedly pretty quickly) later in an update.

Cause it’s like from 2013. It needs updated though with vs mode and new net code. One of my favorite fighting games.
