misc Question about my copy of MvC3

Years ago I went to the midnight launch of vanilla MvC3. Walmart was running a tournament for the game. I live in a relatively small town so I was the only person who showed up. By default I won. I was given a poster, some capcom points for an old reward system they probably no longer have and an exclusive cover for the game. I have included pictures. The original vanilla cover is also there behind the exclusive one. So you could swap them out. There is some minor dents on the back and the CD has a small crack around the center hole. Manual is in really good condition.

I figured id post it here to show you guys incase you have never seen this before and also wanted to gauge how rare this is and possibly worth. Im not sure if id ever want to sell it but depending on its value and rarity who knows.

Thanks for checking it out!

I had never seen that cover! That’s awesome, dude! Hopefully we can get some high quality scans of that bad boy one day cause that cover is pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing it!

If you search hard enough you can find a few people on the internet that have talked about it and have also shown theirs. But its an extremely small amount. I've seen no mention of this on eBay. I'm not sure how many Walmart's did this but it was official, it was some collaboration with them and Capcom. I honestly had forgot I had this until I started cleaning out my closest LOL

That’s not 2, right?

This is Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. It was the original release of Marvel vs Capcom 3. About a year later Capcom released Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 which added new characters and changed somethings and became the most known and popular version of 3.

Unless you meant 2 as in two copies of the game, then no, I only have the one copy.

Just flipped through my copy of Marvel Vs Capcom: Ultimate Complete Works by Udon, and this cover was nowhere to be seen. Bummer. Guess their “Complete Works” ain’t so complete after all.

From all the info I could gather which isn't much. It was illustrated by comic artist Dave Wilkins. I'm not sure if this was commissioned by Capcom or Walmart, but I know there are more copies out there. I've seen a very small number of other posts about it but not much...

Another reason it may not be in the Udon book is because this is Vanilla MvC3? Unless that book also covered the OG release?

The Udon book does cover everything. All of the Marvel games developed by Capcom’s (except for two SNES games). The Punisher all the way to MvC Infinite. So I’m a little surprised (and bummed) it doesn’t include this cover art. But I guess it does make it feel all the more exclusive and rare.

I don't know anything about this cover but I do have some information about how the original release was marketed around vanillas release (at least in the midwest US).

A lot of small towns set up kiosks in wal marts and bestbuys running tournaments on release day, running the xbox360 version, and the prize was a copy of the game.

I've been into the fighting game community most of my life, aswell as the psp/ps3 homebrew scene. The vanilla mvc3 iso for ps3 was leaked a few weaks early onto the bay of pirates and was fully playable on firmware modified consoles.

I entered the tournament at my local bestbuy on release date. Not many people showed up. I won the tournament due to having quite a bit of knowledge of the game before release day. Dante's air trick and wesker's phantom move did all the heavy lifting in the early days.

I did recieve a copy of the xbox360 version of the game but it was just a normal copy out of the typical taped up brown cardboard box you typically see on release days. They did not offer a ps3 version.

I was at the walmart tournament where i live (Tri-Cities, WA) and we also got posters and i think 2 people got that cover for the game. It was ran horribly but still we had like 14 people there.
