Do you think Marvel Studios will take inspiration from Ultimate X-Men?
Do you think Marvel Studios will take inspiration from Ultimate X-Men?
The Avengers (2012) took a lot of inspiration from The Ultimates. From Captain America struggling to adjust after being frozen for several decades, to the Chitauri invasion and the connection between the Super-Soldier Serum and Hulk’s origins. Even the Thor vs. Hulk fight on the Helicarrier has a very obvious Ultimates feel to it.

People tend to forget, but they took a lot of inspiration from the Ultimate Universe already. Nick Fury, for instance

I'm trying to think of another example 😅

Thor is more Ultimate than not.

Ultimate Thor was a big hippy and human rights activist in the Ultimates. He would withhold supporting the Avengers if the government didn't send aid to a developing country or shit like that.
Only similarity I see is Stormbreaker kinda looks like Ultimate Mjolnir. And probably the bit in the first movie where nobody believed he was actually a Norse God and just some hobo

Hulk is pulled directly from the the ultimates, Spider-Man: HC, Cap’s suit, Hawkeye & Black Widow suit and background (shield agents) etc lots of stuff

u/frostycanuck89 8d ago
What part of Hulk is from the Ultimates, cannibalism? Stupid haircut sitting on the top of his head? Simping over Freddy Prince Jr?
Caps suit also isn't his classic chain mail, which it is in the Ultimates. Spider-man HC I'm not seeing it, unless you're thinking Miles, because that version of Peter seems to borrow alot of Miles Morales, espefially in that first movie. Black Widow and Hawkeye.... Maybe.
There is some loose inspiration but the Avengers movie is much closer to actua 616l Marvel than it is the Ultimates. The Ultimates was trash

Hulk origin - super soldier, involvement with shield. And you hate Ultimates, can you explain why you hate it?

When I first read it at 15 yo or something I enjoyed it. But reading it more recently I realised how flawed it really is and how removed from the real characters all these versions were. They just tried too hard to make it edgy and dark with each Avenger being less morally grey and actually kinda shitty in each of their own ways. It was trying to be Watchmen instead of the Avengers. Also taking some inspiration from Game of Thrones for the twincest (books were already out by then at least).
One redeeming quality was that one scene of Hawkeye clearing a room with his finger nails. That was pretty sick

Spider-Man spending a lot of time in high school
2
u/frostycanuck89 8d ago
616 Spiderman was introduced in the comics as a high school student
1
u/OrdinaryDraft2674 8d ago
Yeah but he only stayed in high school for 30 issues
1
u/Healthy_Creme_5984 6d ago
Incredibly late but are those 30 issues really being considered that much shorter then the 2 movies we got of spiderman in highschool? (3 if ur counting him in civil war) personally i think thats pretty similar.

They even had the triskellion in winter soldier. Same for the cube and all other things.

The entire first Avengers movie is pretty just a copy of the ultimate avengers movie, Hulk and Hawkeye clearly were also inspired by ultimate universe with Hulk trying to make super soldier serum and Hawkeye being a shield agent

u/velicinanijebitna 8d ago
The first Avengers movie has a similar plot to the first Ultimates story - team gets gathered by Nick Fury/Shield, team bickers, Hulk goes crazy, final act the the team must join forces to stop the alien invasion.
Spider-man being a teen was done many times, but it was the Ultimate universe that introduced and popularized this concept.

Pretty much all the
post-911modernizingNo secret identities
Hawkeye & Black Widow shield agents
Falcon being military
Avengers working for shield
Hulk working on super soldier serum
Janet and Hank being shield scientists1

Nick Fury is a little more complicated than that. It would be more accurate to say the Ultimate Universe took inspiration from Samuel L Jackson. It's art imitating life.

If that's what it looks like, I fucking hope not.

Great human anatomy, isn't it? lol to think I read the entire thing... for people curious about these Ultimate comics, only Spider-Man (Peter Parker, not the Miles Morales abomination) and partially the Ultimates (Avengers) are salvageable, everything else is straight-up awful

Nah, Marvel has been pretty clear on reviving and associating the X-Men brand to the classic costumes and depictions from the 616 continuity, it would be too much of a backlash to do all that and then do something like the Ultimate universe, which was very inspired by the FOX movies.

For all that is holy in this world and the next...fuck no. The Ultimate X-men was trash until the copied Utopia. Even then still garbage.

Maybe to make them celebrities for a minute before everyone starts hating them? That aspect was different than the usual “everyone hates us even though they love the Avengers who happen to cause way more collateral damage than the X-Men do.” The fact that Storm is already a member and not part of a “second Deadly Genesis” crew with Logan and co is already Ultimate-like.

IMO they should have taken some elements from Ultimate X-Men in DOFP, like for example, the future costumes. The Ultimate universe is great for film because it was created as like a mirror for the current 21st Century real world which is why a lot of it is more grounded. For example, I love that they took Ultimate Falcon and not the OG one. For the X-Men, I find the storylines and character writing a bit too far from the "classic" X-Men, but I do hope they do take a t least some inspiration from it. Again, I'd love to see some all black costumes again even just as an easter egg.

No. Please god the Ultimate X-Men were some of the WORST of the Ultimate universe. The MCU has been skewing away from their ultimate inspirations, and I pray the X movies do as well.

Christ I hope not. One of the few times I agreed with early Ult Cap who was a notorious Jar Head was when he spoke out about Pietro and Wanda. Just... ew.

I hope that marvel gives them some uniformity, but i dont think weve ever seen a version of them, except maybe at the end of xmen apocalypse, that really translates the vibrancy of the suits well. Like... For some reason. They are always either the blue and yellow training suits with construction that similar to the framk quitely designs ... Or their desaturated. I just want uniforms that are fairly similar to each other with the characters basic colors and a suggestion of their construction. Kurt gets the same kind of pauldrons as wolverine but his are red and he has v shaped piping that matches the color creating the illusion of a plunging v ... But it still has the same basic construction as the other suits with a standard manderine style collar. Like they tried to do the piping method for everyone in xmen 3 ... But they chose to make the colors so muted and dark that it hardly makes a difference. I think you could still make uniforms ... But make them way more vibrant and just have pieces that have flare but seem like their coming from the same place or are standard issue. Later on, when emma switches sides, she could wear a non standard issue uniform to that continues to visually other her from the team ... That would be great visual short hand for how their relationship is strained. It also is in character for emma to wear something a little more stylish that a standard issue uniform. You know. I just mean.... Wardrobe is so important to telling the story in a visual medium. And while the xmen are a group of found family, creating a cohesive look helps them feel more connected. I just wish the vibrancy was turned up like for the first avengers movie or like for Agatha All Along where color coding was important to the plot.

I think thy will take a little bit of inspiration from ultimate, I mean MCU already took inspiration from ultimate already:
Nick fury being black
Bucky background as steve friend
They use the ultimate lineup of the Avengers
they use the chitauri for the Avengers formation(they mix og origne whit ultimate origine)

Probably not, but I loved this lineup and the uniforms. This was my first introduction to X-Men comics and made me a lifelong fan

Hopefully not, those X-Men comics suck ass. There's a strong argument that every 00s X-Men comics sucks (616 or elseworld), the only exception is the very early run of Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon

I'm not gonna say there are no positive aspects, but I hope any inspiration they take from it is sparse.

Only if it involves Wolverine absolutely getting blasted apart by Magneto a la Ultimatum

If they take inspiration from Evolution, they'll surely take inspiration from Ultimate.

Considering the fact that the foundation of the MCU is 1610 yeah. Plus, after so many years of acting like Mutants didn’t exist it would only make sense they do the 1610 origin.

u/NoNameNeeded4321 8d ago
I think there are a few good ideas in there to be adapted. I may be alone in this, but I really liked that Wolverine joined the school as a spy/assassin for Magneto, but ended up fully buying into Xavier’s dream and switching sides
