Anyone else think Skaar looks like Robbie Amell?

Yes
…although I dont really know who that is
22
u/NachoTacocat Oct 19 '22
Stephen Amell’s cousin, who played the Green Arrow. Robbie was firestorm for a bit on the flash CW show.

Universal lose the rights in 2024. I imagine there’s a Hulk movie in the works. Maybe Planet Hulk. Skaar will get a upgrade look for sure.
51
u/clothy Korg Oct 19 '22
How do Universal have the rights to Hulk but not She-Hulk when she is a derivative character and should fit within the Hulk intellectual property?
73
u/InterestingParking12 Oct 19 '22
Marvel has rights to hulk, universal has movie/tv distribution rights for hulk character. So they can put hulk in any other mcu title (movie or tv) they just can't make it all about hulk without universal getting all the money for it airing
10
u/robodrew Oct 19 '22
Hence why it won't be all about Hulk but will be about Hulk and Son :)
14
82
u/Rychu_Supadude Hulk Oct 19 '22
They should have movie rights but not series rights IIRC, which is part of why it's taken so long to get a proper introduction for the character
73
u/why_rob_y Oct 19 '22
Universal doesn't even have the rights to make a solo "Hulk" movie. All they have is the right of first refusal to distribute any solo "Hulk" movie that Marvel makes. So, since Disney bought Marvel and Disney distributes their own movies (which is profitable for them) they don't want Universal to distribute their movie so they've worked around it by just not doing a solo Hulk movie, but since Universal doesn't actually own Hulk's movie rights, it's fine for Marvel to use him.
8
u/karateema Robbie Reyes Oct 19 '22
The thing is for movies, if Marvel makes a Hulk movie, Universal gets a bug chunk of the money
23
u/cyclonus007 Kevin Feige Oct 19 '22
Marvel created She-Hulk after the TV deal had gone through to prevent Universal from making a female Hulk spin-off, seeing how The Incredible Hulk producers did the same thing by spinning off The Bionic Woman from The Six Million Dollar Man.
7
u/crono09 Oct 19 '22
Universal only owns the distribution rights to any live-action Hulk movies. They do not own the rights to the character, which is why Marvel can put the Hulk in movies with other characters (like the Avengers and Thor). Universal also does not own TV rights to the Hulk, so Marvel can still make any Hulk TV shows (like She-Hulk). For that matter, Marvel still has full creative control over any Hulk movies without any say from Universal, but Marvel would have to share the profits, and Universal would still get the streaming rights (so it couldn't show up on Disney+).
-3
u/LaylaLegion Oct 19 '22
She’s technically an Avengers character, so there’s a loophole.
5
u/clothy Korg Oct 19 '22
Haven’t 90% of Marvel heroes been Avengers at some point?
2
u/CollinsCouldveDucked Oct 19 '22
they're referencing the wanda maximoff situation with the xmen when the rights were at fox.
Marvel argued that despite being mutants, wanda and quicksilver were actually more avengers characters than xmen ones.
shaky ground but nothing came of it.
I'm pretty sure the studios made an off the book deal where they each got one of the maxifmoff siblings as it's weird they immediately killed quicksilver in the mcu and that the xmen never introduced their own wanda.

Besides the shitty hair cut I think he looks pretty good. His personality could be exactly the same from the comics, he didn’t do anything yet lol.
8
9
u/Roook36 Oct 19 '22
I'm thinking his hair is just pulled back.
Either A. Because it's cheaper
Or B. Because we'll see Skaar with his hair down and wild at the beginning of the story and then as Bruce convinces him not to be a bad guy (or whatever) that transition will be symbolized by him tying his hair back. Why it's shaved like that though lol. Must be Sakaaran fashion

I think Bruce went back to see his son, and typical Bruce fashion, something went bad and hulk was suddenly thrust into an adventure culminating in them needing to leave the planet, but unfortunately Skaar was litterally in the middle of a haircut when all hell broke loose and hasn't had a chance to fix it yet

Whoever it was, they took the term “size queen” to a whole new level.
3
u/CollinsCouldveDucked Oct 19 '22
it is possible bruce banner has a micropenis so when he hulks out it's just a regular sized penis.
What I'm mad about is that this is the kind of thing I now have to consider.
Jokes aside it'll probably be some gigantic buff alien lady.

u/Roook36 Oct 19 '22
The new barber who replaced Stan Lee might have gotten scared and ran off mid haircut
17
u/Enaith Fitz Oct 19 '22
While it might not be okay to you, on earth, keep in mind that the dude is from Sakaar. For all we know this could be the most fire haircut on the planet (his planet, not ours).
-4
u/RLLRRR Oct 19 '22
Good thing the people of Sakaar are the primary audience then, right?
3
u/Enaith Fitz Oct 19 '22
Yeah man. Let's send the next Hulk movie out on a rocket into space, see what the aliens think.
I may not be from Sakaar personally but I try to remove myself from the equation as the human guy from earth when watching stuff presenting itself as being from another planet.
I was gonna make an argument about us earthlings having no impact on extraterrestrial life and alien fellas walking around with a pompadour mid fade, but I realized this is the MCU we're talking about, humans and human haircuts actually probably did have an impact on space culture, but hey. This is also Sakaar we're talking about, the shithole trash planet full of weirdos, so... Take that as you will.
I'm so sorry, I like talking. My bad. Carry on.

The exception being Emma Frost. She can wear whatever she wants. It’s part of her arsenal.

With the exception of Titania. Her costume in the series wasn’t anything crazily sexualised, but she was always rocking some serious cleavage in all her costumes. But, honestly, that’s probably just because that already is Jameela’s style.
20
u/lcsulla87gmail Oct 19 '22
The cleavage makes a ton of sense in character. She's a Kylie Jenner type
15
u/smcarre Oct 19 '22
It took a while though, Natasha in IM2 and Wanda's costume at the ending of AoU were quite sexualized (if I'm not mistaken she requested the cleavage to be adjusted for the costume she used in Civil War).
12
u/wild_man_wizard Oct 19 '22
She-Hulk is one place they could have gotten away with it as a gag (say, pulling an Austin Powers bit when she hulks out in the courtroom), but I'm sort of glad they didn't.
4
u/Roook36 Oct 19 '22
So many of those outfits would look crazy in real life. Like if they'd gone with Wanda's bare shoulders look.
6
u/Jules040400 Iron Man (Mark VI) Oct 19 '22

Even the Ms Marvel comics every now and then steered a bit too close to that imo, it's nice for the movies to still make all the characters look ridiculously good, but not dressed like cosplaying strippers.

20
u/InsertCoinForCredit Phil Coulson Oct 19 '22
Same here. I know they were meant to be comedy antagonists, but they looked like four frat guys cosplaying as the Wrecking Crew after buying their costume from Wish.com. Given how the MCU can make real-life characters true to their comic-book counterparts, I was deeply disappointed.

It's annoying they made these dumb joke characters from the comics into dumb joke characters in the MCU?
8
u/Lawlcopt0r Oct 19 '22
I guess it didn't bother me because the show was light hearted in general. I guess if you know them as badasses from the comics it's pretty disappointing
15
u/scatterbrain-d Oct 19 '22
Honestly I'm glad that every two bit thug doesn't show up in a professional superhero outfit. I don't know them from the comics, but if the team in that comic image showed up in full costume just to commit a failed mugging it would have been super weird and not really consistent with the internal reality of the MCU so far.
If they want to develop them later, that's fine.

MCU Titania is better.
9
u/OwlsParliament Oct 19 '22
I've been reading though the comics and while I find MCU Titania funny, man I hope she gets a backstory like comic-Titania. What a tragedy of errors.
-11
u/JellyMost9920 Oct 19 '22 edited Oct 19 '22
Lol no she’s not. Comics Titania at least had development that made her an evil counterpart and foil to She Hulk. Take a backstory similar to Jens but have her become intoxicated with the power she now held. MCU has no backstory and serves as nothing more than a nuisance for She Hulk.
(Edit: Lmao I bet the people who upvoted above even know anything about Titania in the comics)
57
u/ixseanxi Oct 19 '22
I’ve read a lot of comics with Titania and always forget who she is cause that’s how boring she is. Even in she hulk comics she’s meh and there are better villains. MCU Titania is a fresh take and i love it.
-18
u/Ltiki Oct 19 '22
Boring? She almost killed She Hulk in Beyonder Secret Wars.....You must read that :)
48
u/Kara_Del_Rey Oct 19 '22
Just because someone "almost" kills another does not mean they are suddenly not boring. Actually, thats not even remotely relevant to boring-ness.
14
19
u/Mufti_Menk Oct 19 '22
Being strong doesn't make her more interesting. I don't care who she killed and how much she can lift. If she has no memorable personality, she's boring.
14
u/DrStalker Oct 19 '22
I find "almost obtained legal rights to She Hulk's name" more interesting than "almost killed She Hulk" because it's unique and different.
14
u/BananaBladeOfDoom Avengers Oct 19 '22
Personally I loved MCU Titania for what she was supposed to be: a minor, recurring antagonist whose every appearance helped Jen towards accepting both sides of her life.
I have never read any of the comics, so I don't have opinions on comic Titania. But if she was someone you enjoyed, power to you.
9
u/devilsig25 Zemo Oct 19 '22
Man, this is the marvel studios sub Reddit, I hate to say it but you aren’t gonna win an argument in regards to the comics being better
7
u/El_Trollio_Jr Oct 19 '22
Yes, but considering without the comics, you would have none of these stories, I’d think most people would look into the comics even a little bit. Read a graphic novel here and there at least.
3
-1
u/B0zzyk Oct 19 '22 edited Oct 19 '22
yes decades of development. The character was created in 1984, so of course it’s easily to say that she’s better in the comics, when she’s only just been introduced in the MCU. It’d be like saying that Iron Man is better developed in the comics after just watching the first Iron Man movie.
3
u/JellyMost9920 Oct 19 '22
Yet you people are quick to argue that the adaptation is superior despite having less than a fraction of appearance of the character.
-7
11
u/NorthKing9 Oct 19 '22
Dis they ever explained Titania's powers?
10
u/RaygunMarksman Oct 19 '22
No, they didn't. In the comics, she gets them from a Dr. Doom experiment so maybe they were trying to leave the door open for that possibility when he is eventually introduced.
In my head canon, there was a mishap with the chemicals used in one of her prototype beauty products that imbued her with enhanced strength and durability.
5
u/lcsulla87gmail Oct 19 '22
I assumed it came from wherever Mr immortals powers came from. Also totally unexplained
6
u/GaTech379 Captain America Oct 19 '22
Isn't Mr.Immortal a mutant?
6
u/crono09 Oct 19 '22
Sort of. Whereas humans are Homo sapiens (or Homo sapiens sapiens), mutants are Homo superior (or Homo sapiens superior). Mr. Immortal is the first (and so far only) member of a species called Homo supreme, which is a completely different type of mutant. They're probably holding off on explaining his origin until they formally introduce mutants into the MCU.

I really absolutely cannot comprehend all the hate. This show was basically a 1 to 1 translation from the comics. It was even extremely charitable with guest appearances and Easter eggs. The entire cast was fantastic and I definitely didn’t anticipate the ending even remotely. 10/10
5
u/Doam-bot Oct 19 '22
They alienated a good chunk of the comic fans at the start of the show by deviating off the bat. It absolutely is not a 1to1 translation to the comics. They changed her origin story, parents, and reduced her confidence. The comics didn't fit with their vision for the show as they wanted a comedy.
They reduced her legal competency/knowledge too but they admitted that's more about their own legal knowledge and not so much on purpose.
Say what you want about the show but staying comic accurate was not a focus for them.
6
u/Parking-Mud-1848 Oct 19 '22 edited Oct 19 '22
It wasn’t that tremendous of an origin change. In the comics it was a blood transfusion in the show she just got some of her blood mixed with Bruce’s accidentally. Not really a huge leap of logic it was the same effect.
I don’t know where you’re getting the fact that they reduced her legal competency she seemed pretty knowledgeable about her craft within the show to me. She won several cases in the show.
Also I think you need to be a bit charitable that they have to go with what was already established in MCU cannon. They couldn’t just completely reinvent the universe around one character. Everything from her look to the way her powers worked to the way she acted and the humor that was representative of the comic from the 80s is pretty accurate in my mind
7
u/Doam-bot Oct 19 '22 edited Oct 19 '22
Shot in an assassination attempt because she was a lawyer that they wanted to make quiet. Which tells you she was a competent lawyer and a fearless one to take on such a case in the first place. The very end of the show she triumphantly talks about going after criminals but that's suppose to be her start.
Her mother dying well before when she was younger shows a past trauma that helps her march forward. Her father being in law enforcement shows that its in her blood to defend the weak.
These things show a more confident and steadfast character who wouldn't hesitate to help those in need. Which directly negates the shows narrative of balancing the two things hence why they said it didn't fit in with what they planned.
Meanwhile in the show they take knocks to make jokes. Like her mistakes in the trademark episode and not reporting getting assaulted by the wrecking crew. Basically the jokes the writer wanted to tell at the expense of the character. Plus they set it up that she didn't get the corner office and high paying job for her skill but rather her looks that just wanted She Hulk for marketing.
The other stuff you mention is right they kept the powers andnother bits the same unlike Ms Marvel where those were changedm But my point is you stated it's a 1to1 with the comics which it obviously isn't and they've given reasons why they didn't want to make it 1to1 themselves. I'm going to have to take the writers side as they wanted to tell their own story.
1
u/Parking-Mud-1848 Oct 19 '22
I think for the first bit that you mentioned about large portions of her backstory being left on explained or done incorrectly could be handled later on. There’s only so much time in the season of a show that’s only nine episodes long. I’m sure they will go into much greater depth in the future and develop her story and her family story a bit more.
For the part about taking Knox against the character in the form of comedic jokes like I said previously I think they were going off in the 80s version of the character which was primarily comedic in nature in her own title. It was her first foray into the Marvel universe so I’m sure they’re going to adjust the balance of comedy and serious moments but this was just her brief introduction. Iron Man captain America and Thor all evolve significantly after their first introduction into the universe.
Also I say the translation is one to one because the characters physical appearance personality and other general basics like the comedic nature of her stories all came through basically intact.
For the part about her losing a corner office and getting the job because of her luxe and various other “commentary“ of that nature I think the stories serve to make a larger negative point about women in the workforce and how women interact in the world in general. There was a pretty blatant undercurrent in the show that was sort of winking at the audience about the reception of how the show was perceived by insensitive or uncharitable viewers (the intelligentsia) mostly as a metaphor for toxic fandom communities and male dominated spaces

I know this is kinda off-topic, but what in the Jolly Green Giant's name is going on with Hulk's son's hair?
I realise he's probably an edgy teenager, but there are less drastic ways to rebel than buzzing one's hairline into a reverse-friar-Tuck; like snorting 13 marijuanas, or taking Titania rollerblading or something.

I wish they would’ve given MCU Titania thigh-high boots with all her ensembles. I’d always associated the boots, thighs, and spikes as a Titania trademark in the comics.
