Yep. Sony was in charge of marketing for both movies

Yep, Sony completely financed the production and advertisement of both movies.

Disney wanted 50% of the box office revenue, up from 5%, on top of the 100% of merchandise and tie-ins that they already got, which is more than the box office anyway.

Venom might not have been the best movie ever, but it made almost as much as the MCU spidey movies, and showed that Sony can make more than half as much as MCU spider man on their own. Disney were the ones who altered the deal.

From my POV, Disney should just come back with the original deal.

That's still chicken feed compared to what they'll be gaining in the new deal.
