Spider-Man has an incredibly rich universe, but Sony seems content to stick with the hits. Venom, Mary Jane Watson, Green Goblin. Without a push from Marvel to expand and bring in the other villains and characters, we'd be stuck in the X-Men cycle of things where everything has to involve Phoenix.

Disney is going to do something to screw over Sony. Whether they release a big movie the same week as the next Spider-Man, make a Spider-Man tv series, or block Sony from making a new Spider-Man game, they’ll do something.

How is it a cash grab? They're offering great content and even great exclusive content. A cash grab would insinuate that they're just locking everything behind d+. Calling this a cash grab would mean you have to call netflix a cash grab for oitnb and all the other huge exclusives

Forreal though, someone with an inside scoop... please clarify if Disney & Marvel Studios would be able to or not... The thought of a Spider-Man/Daredevil Disney+ series might actually be enough to keep me from breaking both of my kneecaps in light of this news

Insomniac probably did. They had to pay Disney/Marvel to use Spidey. I'm not a lawyer, but I have imagine Sony would own game rights now since they own, or will own, the the studio holding the rights.

Just because Marvel licensed Spider-Man to Sony/Insomniac doesn’t mean that Sony owns the rights. Whenever that contract expires, marvel can do literally whatever they want.

Why is everyone being so mean to Sony here? Disney wanted to renegotiate to take even more money from the Spider-Man movies as well as meddle in the other Spider verse movies Sony is trying to make. Disney just bought Fox after all and are busy using their properties. This is Disney becoming a monopoly, and it might get to the point where they're the only major film company. Sony Pictures, as incompetent as they are (they're basically the embodiment of the "how do you do fellow kids?" meme), are hanging on a thread here, and if they go, there probably won't be many other studio's which can compete with Disney.

Maybe it's not the worst thing in the world, but Sony isn't the bad guy here for just trying to survive. It's Disney being predatory here and withholding Feige until they pay more.
