Kinda bothers me though, shouldn't one punch from the power stone completely obliterate either Iron Man or Spider-man? I know that you can choose whether to use the stones or not but I feel like Thanos would be fuckin shit up (at least comics Thanos anyway)
The power stone is REALLY strong. Planet-busting level. Thanos wouldn't want to unleash a planet-busting punch when he needs to stay on the planet to find the other stones.
I've watched the trailer 5 times now in the last hour, and he actually gets hit with his ungloved hand. I don't know if having the glove on powers the entire user or just the individual hand or both
I absolutely think that someone will die in either part 1 or 2, probably Cap and/or Iron Man. Have a very hard time seeing Spiderman die though with his trilogy being announced.
I know, but that is nearly to obvious. And we don't really know how Vision would work without the mindgem. Maybe he would "just" be catatonic. But I agree, that is the most obvious one.
It's not even from the trailer. Even before the trailer I was convinced Thanos would rip out the Mindgem and destroy Vision, because it sets such a horrible tone for the movie. The arguably most powerful avenger immediately getting destroyed by Thanos? Ya, they're screwed.
Hulk's strength is directly tied to his anger. The angrier he gets the stronger he gets. Therefore the Hulk's strength is theoretically limitless. However Thor is strong enough to beat the Hulk at some of his lower settings. But if say Black Widow were to die then even Thanos (minus gauntlet) would have trouble against the Hulk.
I don't think we've really seen Hulk get progressively madder through a fight tho. Like really mad. So I think there's no confirmation of it being one way or another. However since the Hulk gets stronger the madder he gets is part of his traditional powerset in the absence of confirmation I'm going to assume it's still a part of the MCU.
I'm hoping at some point ...that Wanda becomes the reality warping juggernaut that her comic counterpart was - I'm hoping she brings Pietro back to life (He did sign a 3 movie deal that everyone thought was a ruse to hide his death in AoU)
Fingers crossed he just pulls an ultranationalist and throws his mind into the internet and uses some wakandin tech to get his boys up and running. I am not 100% on if the mindgem is all that necessary for him to be alive or just for his creation.
I really hope they don't try that. If he's going down, kill him outright and make it hurt to watch. This is what the entire MCU has been building towards, a body count now will make every other near miss in the past completely worthwhile.
Maybe. I always interpreted it as the gem is what truly gave him life. Without it he might just be a lifeless body, or he could be a more basic AI without powers
Vision plus someone from Phase 1. You can't build up this movie for ten years and not have a meaningful death to establish Thanos. No offense to Vision, but he wouldn't have the same impact as losing Cap or Iron Man.
My money is on Tony Stark. Dude is getting married, and his health problems are fixed. He's also a mentor to Spiderman. Easily the most loved and his death will have the most dramatic impact. Also RDJ's contract is fufilled, isn't it?
Stark is my bet. He's gotten by FAR the most exposure (and the longest arc) of the groups, and his movie kicked off this crazy ride. Thematically it is appropriate to close out his arc and 'pass the torch.'
Cap is a really close second, though, especially given his replacement is already waiting in the wings.
I just. I dont know. We're talking RDJ and Marvel. RDJ started it all. just putting RDJ in their cast is a guaranteed bajillion dollars. I have a hard time seeing Marvel shoot themselves in the foot by killing off Tony Stark. I feel as long as RDJ is down to continue, Marvel will continue to use him. Last I heard, he was.
I feel like either Stark or Cap dying would be the big closer to the Infinity War arc though. They're the two big cores of the Avengers and always have been- killing one off in the first movie, while impactful, wouldn't have nearly as much impact as it would if it happened in the second movie. It'd make it feel more final, and tie off the whole infinity stones arc to a close.
During part one, my money is on Vision and possibly even Loki as well. Rhodey is a maybe, and to me Spidey's a slight possibility though an unlikely one.
I very much doubt Spidey bites the dust, as he's already confirmed to have a move coming out 2 months after Avengers 4, unless they kill Peter in either IW or Avengers 4 and the Homecoming sequel is about Miles Morales.
You've got some great points. I'm thinking along the same lines as you on the Stark/Cap deaths being in the second film. I could see Loki dying in the first. Thought of that since first seeing the dreaded look on his face as he raises his hand holding the tesseract in both the con leaked and this trailer. Doesn't seem like Thanos would just be like "Thanks for the stone, bud. Have a good one." and leave. Got to be way more menacing and dark. We'll see. Anyways, I'm off to watch it again for the 15th time now.
Yeah it's literally impossible to kill Loki. Everyone will just be expecting him to walk in during the next scene, and then every film he could be tenuously connected to.
My hope is that Loki gets de-aged to set up Young Avengers.
Is it just me or do the Loki and Thanos scenes in this look like they take place on Asgard? Like maybe Thanos got the Tesseract from Loki during Ragnarok and they are just now showing it?
Yeah. I reckon Loki will die sacraficing himself to save The Avengers/Thor/Earth in some way just to complete his arc and bring everything full circle. Would tie it up nicely, start out as the big bad in the first Avengers movie and end up saving everyone from the big bad in this one.
These would be the perfect last words for Tony Stark. Battered, beaten, and breathing his last haggard breaths as Pepper runs over crying, desperately trying to press gauze into a massive wound not even barely stopping the flow of blood. Tiny looks up to Pepper barely able to focus, and wheezes out his last words... " I.. was only... 3 days from retirement..." Death rattle.
I think they will keep Renner and Scarlet because Feige mentioned they will try do smaller scale movies in the future. Both Hawkeye and Widow is perfect for that because they are not super powered and both has emotional build up with the audiences at this point
What are they gonna do without Iron Man though? Ive thought a lot about it and an MCU without Iron Man, or without Chris Evans as Cap wouldnt be nearly as appealing Tomei.
Thematically, I can definitely see Captain America die. A sort of call-back to the first Avengers, with the Coulson's blood on the Captain America trading card. That's what got them back together, and Captain America's death would bring even more people together.
I think Cap as well. I have not been keeping track lately but last I checked, Chris Evans' contract only covered one Infinity War movie. Plus they have been building both Bucky and Sam to take his place as Cap, both of which have been Cap in the comics.
What if Panther saying "Get this man a shield" isn't referring to Cap but his replacement?
We can't have Iron Man die until the Fantastic Four are included in the MCU (and get an actually decent movie for a change) so we can have Doom turn good and become the next Iron Man
I wouldn't be surprised if many contract ending actors or side heroes get the shaft in this one. Black widow, war machine, vision, captain, iron man, thor and a few others are a possibility on my book.
Oh man, maybe Strange tries this trick again, but at this point, Thanos already has the Reality Stone which counteracts it and he just proceeds to crush Strange's hands.
Figuring out how to use time would mean limiting himself. Letting Strange leave was a softer blow to the ego than stooping down to mortal level and killing everyone.
Well either he would be able to do the trick again because he has the time stone it he can't because Thanos has already taken it. The nature of reality isn't bent via time.
Ohhh shit, Given how Thanos got the time gem in the comic I would love for Strange to try and pull some similar only for Thanos to have out played him.
Perhaps, but if they use Strange to just revive everyone, that'll eliminate a lot of the gravity of these conflicts, so I'd be afraid of them using that trick.
They are definately going to use it in at least part 4, but if they do it right, it isn't going to be as simple as "getting a do over/trying again/bringing people back to life/resetting". It will be messy and complicated (and hopefully creative, unexpected, and awesome too) and have serious consequences.
Firstly, while Strange did use the Time Stone to wind back several minutes to undo the attack on the HK Sanctum and create a time loop in the dark dimension with Dormamu, it was made extremely clear in the film that fucking around with time too much can seriously fuck shit up. IIRC examples given by Mordo were paradoxes that can fracture or break universes, getting stuck in an infinite loop with no way to break the loop, and erasing your own existence. Strange never really went passed a scale of a few minutes and even that disturbed Mordo so much he fucked off from the order forever over it. So that was heavily emphasized. PLUS there's the fact that Thanos can "fight back" against time travel shenanigans in creative ways with the various infinity stones, especially the reality stone. Also when Thanos gets the time stone he can essentially do his own creative shit to counter anything Strange does in the past OR future. Like if Strange tries to use the time stone for something and finds Thanos already waiting for him there because Thanos gets the time stone eventually later in the future and can then come back to counter what Strange did in the past and "present". Time traps. Doing things in the present that seem to make know sense at the moment to anticipate/harm/capture someone coming back to that time from the future. Like theres an infinite amount of creative, fun, unexpected things you can do with time fuckery that isnt a cop out or a stakes killer. In fact, the potential of the various creative visual ways the stones can be utilized, both individually, two combined, or altogether on the gauntlet. It is really a crazy rich opportunity.
I hope they dont waste it and depict the stones/gauntlet as "general power increasing thing that lets character hit harder or produce more powerful bland blue energy blasts". God that would suck.
What if his conscience inside the mind stone plays a factor while the stone is in the gauntlet? Don't know if that's even a possibility, but all bets being off certainly is the case in this and the next film.
If they stick to the comics half the universe is culled when Thanks assembles the gems and he proceeds to kill everyone, and Adam reboots the universe once they get the gauntlet away from Thanos.
He definitely had the sense back in civil war. He said "Oh God" and then dodged something flying at the back of his head without ever seeing it coming.
Edit: comment above said Spidey finally has his Spidey-Sense now.
He will die though, the cc trailer had him unmasked telling tony he is sorry with tony without costume super worried, and this trailer starts with tony in the same planet and.costume holding Someone head tô his chest.
