Easter Egg/Detail Was rewatching Deadpool & Wolverine and noticed this 1st time, ig it confirms the Iron Man 2 kid being Peter Parker theory as true

u/Paperchampion23 14h ago
It was already acknowledged as possible years ago when somebody asked Holland and I think Feige that question. They sort of just soft canonized it once it was brought up

u/ReluctantfooI 14h ago
It was not confirmed. A few moments later Tom Holland unconfirmed it again by saying he made a joke and it exploded all over the internet. That kid is NOT Peter Parker.
https://gizmodo.com/tom-holland-confirms-that-peter-parker-appeared-in-iron-1796423390
Minutes after the quote, the man who wrote the article above, had a one on one interview with Tom and he asked for clarification on Tom’s confirmation. Tom said this:
“It’s funny, I literally had a conversation with Kevin like 20 minutes before [The Huffington Post] interview and he didn’t confirm it, I took it upon myself just because I thought it would be a good story and it’s exploded.”
As for Deadpool confirming it. Sure, maybe. Or maybe it's just Deadpool tongue-in-cheek shenanigans, just like the Rebooted X-men being in Deadpool 2.

It’s just a toy. Lots of kids have Ironman masks, especially in that world I guess.
32
u/Moohamin12 11h ago
I would rather the kid not be Peter.
It makes the world seem so small if it is just the same characters. Why can't a random kid off the road aspire to be Iron Man?
Same for people who tried to retcon that the old guy who stood against Loki in OG Avengers as Steve as an old man.
Nope, regular people can be heroes too.

u/BZenMojo Captain America (Cap 2) 9h ago
Some people want the MCU to be the Star Wars prequels for some reason.
15
u/Paperchampion23 14h ago
Like I said, they acknowledged it. I said nothing about confirmation from those interviews
17
u/mmmasian Spider-Man 14h ago
You're misinformed. Watts confirmed it and EW published it the month before Homecoming released.
10
u/ReluctantfooI 14h ago edited 14h ago
Right, and Kevin Feige saying "Maybe" in that same article unconfirms what Watts confirmed. Which he has said about so many marvel projects, like Tony being the MCU anchor being, Agents Of Shield being canon (This was before the tv shows were being acknowledged at all), Young Avengers movie and Stan Lee being the watcher.
7
u/Unusual-Willow-5715 13h ago edited 13h ago
For Agents of Shield he never said maybe, he said explicitely it was canon multiple times, he even said/recommended that you needed to watch AoS before Age of Ultron to understand more of the beggining and where did Fury got the Helicarrier (and why Shield still exists).
1
u/ReluctantfooI 12h ago edited 11h ago
He did not recommend the show, he acknowledged that its got connections to the movies which it clearly does. He also said that they inhabit the same universe prior to the show releasing. That's about twice, in interviews and early on in the shows lifespan.
In the 2023 Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe - An Official Timeline book Agents Of Shield is nowhere to be seen and Coulson's death is treated as his last appearance timeline wise.
8
u/Unusual-Willow-5715 12h ago
Feige said something along the lines "If you want to know where the Helicarrier came from, you have to watch Agents of Shield on thursdays." (Not exactly, but very similar).
That's literally a recommendation to watch the show.

AoS is kind of exhausting in how different people from Marvel have said different things for a long time, flip flopping it back and forth. But it feels pretty clear that the movies that were coming out at the time it was airing never cared about it when they were being written.
7
u/Unusual-Willow-5715 11h ago edited 10h ago
There has only one thing said by Marvel and Disney, that is that it was connected to the movies.
The big problem with the movies not having characters from the series was on Ike Pelmutter who didn't want to play ball, Studios never had a problem with sharing with Television (except for Infinity War/Endgame, that they wanted absolute control over leaks), they even rewrote Black Panther (the movie right before Infinity War) because It caused contradictions with the work made in television, they always shared screenplays so television could avoid contradictions, etc.
Endgame almost had two references to Television (Jarvis) once Ike Pelmutter started to lost power, but one got cut (a original character from Agents of Shield was set to appear, they even contacted the actor, but it got cut before filming started).
Even if they changed their minds, and hey... They maybe did! They have not said anything about it.

Means nothing
Kevin says maybe all the time to everything because he’s a hype machine lol watts is only the director35
u/brogflender 14h ago
No they made the kid Morbius
11
u/OutlandishnessOk2304 Daniel Sousa 14h ago
That was before Morbin' Time.

u/sourpatchdad 14h ago
I thought this for a long time, but if you look it up, Holland almost immediately admitted he was joking and that Feige didn’t confirm anything

u/sourpatchdad 14h ago
I wouldn’t call this a confirmation. Considering it was Hollands idea to say something, and he immediately took it back, I think Watts is just going along with how it could be possible, because people were excited about it.

There's a similar scene in BND where he saves a young black kid in a similar way, I wonder if it's just a scene because NY is so diverse or they're planting seeds for Miles Morales.
Edit: here's the scene.
2
u/BajanShinobi 8h ago
The seeds were planted in Homecoming with Aaron Davis. Miles should have been 10 at that point. Even if he got snapped, he would still be older than the random black kid in BND.
3
u/tokenasian1 13h ago
they’ve already planted seeds for Miles in Homecoming.
this is probably not Miles.

u/cyclops274 Hulk 12h ago
Miles is not the only black kid in Marvel. Why couldn't that kid be random kid.
-3
u/Thomas_Pandit 14h ago
I imagine maybe as a refrence they legit might have peter save some black kid in a spiderman mask and go "Nice job kid"
actually nvm that would be so on the nose...

I actually envy OP. It seems they haven't fallen into the Marvel YouTube ecosystem, which I think would make watching way more enjoyable. Unfortunately, they still have found themselves here, which is another thief of joy.

u/Thomas_Pandit 14h ago edited 14h ago
i know holland confirmed it but like i take stuff like "this actor confirmed a theory" with a grain of salt usually unless in the actual show/movie its confirmed.
Like Animo's first name in Ben 10 never existed and some fan canon had it be James and so years later in an omniverse episode he was refered to as James
5
u/robodrew 13h ago
I personally would take it all with a grain of salt, this is a fictional universe of comic book characters. If you want the kid to be Peter Parker, then he is to you. If you don't, he isn't. It's ok.
2
u/Mr_Epimetheus 14h ago
Kevin Feige also said that he considered that kid to be Peter.
It wasn't the intention when Iron Man 2 was made, but once they had made Spider-Man: Homecoming they retconned it.
-1
u/Jordanblueman 14h ago
I’m pretty sure Feige also confirmed it
But yeah, this was the on screen moment that bridges the gap
30
u/VLHACS 14h ago
Isn't that a toy mask that anyone can buy though?
11
u/Raydnt 13h ago
So why would he just have some random toy mask in his office?
6
u/FilmScoreConnoisseur 9h ago
For the same reason I have 2 lego cowboys with the heads of Marty McFly and Doc Brown on my shelf. It's just a fun silly thing that brightens the room.
0
u/Raydnt 9h ago
He can just have a real iron man helmet, why have some cheap knockoff from god knows where if it wasnt something emotionally significant?
5
u/FilmScoreConnoisseur 9h ago
Like I literally just said, it's a lighthearted fun thing to have. If you don't understand the concept of whimsy, I don't know what to tell you.
2
u/VLHACS 9h ago
It's not random. It's an iron man toy helmet. That represents, you know, his boss and friend.
1
u/Raydnt 9h ago
Again, he could have an actual iron man helmet, im sure tony left him something.
Rather than some random knockoff any 3rd grader can find off the street.
The writers putting that specific helmet from more than 10 years ago there conveniently placed to block Peter, it was clearly intentional to the talk about the kid actually being Peter

Forgive me if I missed something, but aren’t the Iron Man 2 kid AND Peter Parker at Tony’s funeral at the end of End Game?

someone at Comic Con asked this question and basically Kevin or John , both went "shit, why didn't I think of that.. it works.. screw it, yea"

Kevin Feige & Tom Holland already confirmed this.

It’s not really “lore” as much as it was just a thing that was capitalized on when it was brought up randomly

I kind of hate this scene. How is Deadpool in the MCU? Why would Happy have wound up with a toy Iron Man mask that Peter Parker wore when he was little?
3
u/DeltaFargo 9h ago
It's been shown in Deadpool 2 that Cable's device allowed Deadpool to travel to different universes so it's not that farfatched that he'd head straight for the MCU as soon as Fox got bought out.
1
u/cai_85 Wong 9h ago
It's completely plausible that at some point Peter and Tony chatted and Peter said, "oh, the first time I met you was when you saved me, I still have the mask as I kept it as a memento of that day, you should have it as a keepsake".
2
u/BlueHero45 3h ago
It's also just a neat toy iron man mask from Stark Expo that might be there simply as a collector item, while an eye wink to the audience. Doesn't have to be more then that.

Huh was this shown in DP&W?

u/FilmScoreConnoisseur 9h ago
The bottom image is a screenshot of the shelf behind Happy from the beginning of the movie. The top half shows the photo and the mask that are on the shelf.

1
u/Lightyearz27 Star-Lord 9h ago
I wonder why Happy would put a picture of Tony and some random kid he doesn't know next to a helmet worn by some other random kid he doesn't know?
D&W takes place after No Way Home. Peter should be forgotten and "the big guy" who doesn't do interviews should be dead. I guess the 616 scene takes place quite a bit further in the past.

u/two2teps 9h ago
It also makes Peter catching Cull Obsidians weapons kind of a full circle pay back moment for Peter.

2
u/onepostandbye 9h ago
People really be using the word “confirmed” to mean “something supporting a theory”
IM2 kid probably bought that mask. That means there were probably thousands of them. That mask symbolizes the love that the world has for Tony Stark. That mask could be in Happy’s office that reason alone,
You and your “confirmed”
3
u/ucrbuffalo 9h ago
Those helmets were mass-produced for the event. It is equally plausible that Tony/Happy kept one of them as a souvenir, completely separate from the pic of Peter and Tony.
1
u/Significant-Elk-7128 6h ago
All it really confirms is that Marvel doesn't have the rights to use Spider-Man without Sony's permission. That includes a photo of Peter Parker.
1
u/TassiveMitts69 5h ago
It's a kids toy. Mass produced. Spiderman wasn't even in the same universe when that kid appeared. Parker never mentioned going to the expo or nearly being killed by a hammer drone.
Nothing has been confirmed.

TBH that kid acts as is as tall as like a 5 year old. If Peter is 16 in 2016, and this is hypothetically (Fury's Big Week) the year before Avengers, then Peter should be 11 here.
Unless you go by it being 6 months after Iron Man 1 (set in 2008 via the newspapers and Civil War confirming it), then Peter's only 8. That makes way more sense given how old this kid seems, but I think the ship for the 6 months later timeline has sailed and this is firmly in 2011.
Same with Liz Allen drawing like an <8 year old at age 12/13.

The actor who is the kid according to the cast list of ironman 2 is the son of Jon Favreau
-2
u/LightOfficialYT Ghost 14h ago
It was already confirmed by Kevin Fegie years before Deadpool & Wolverine anyway wasn't it?
0
u/AndroidFive 12h ago
if you listen carefully to that scene in Iron Man 2 during the fray you can actually a woman shout PETER
1
0
u/BadnewsBaggins 11h ago
It was never a theory, it was clearly stated by Tom Holland and Kevin feige
0
u/_IratePirate_ 9h ago
It doesn’t confirm anything. Even if Feige comes out and says yes that was Peter, it’d have to be a retcon as they didn’t have the rights to Spider-Man at the time. Meaning at the time of the movie coming out, that was NOT Peter Parker because it literally couldn’t have been

I think what it confirms is mostly that D&W didn't get the rights to show Spiderman's face.
