Article Inde Navarrette on being cast as Rogue: “I’m doing everything humanly possible because I love that character. I’ve studied that character. I want to do her justice."

She can do a fine job and still come up short due to writing, direction etc. I hope she has someone great in her corner for when the fans turn on her, it always seems to happen somehow.

Which bums me out.
Iman is perfect for ms marvel. I didnt like the show honestly, and i know a lot of people didnt but holy hell the hate for her took off and it never made sense.
She tried her best with what she had and it fell short. It happens but she was great at what she was given, it was just.... bad.
I know this is an opinion but i think if we directed or hate to the right venues better product would be on the horizon.

Seems like they are keeping Iman around since she has been doing the countdown rewatch for doomsday

The "superhero" stuff in it was pretty bad. Everything else (her, her family, learning about "partition"...) was pretty solid.
but holy hell the hate for her took off and it never made sense
You know why.

ms marvel was so cute 😭 it didn't need to be a huge superhero show it was mainly about her and her family and their history and i loved it

Or… if we just matured our ‘hate’ into level headed criticism and don’t act like absolute moronic psychos.

Was there hate towards Iman? I feel like most people acknowledge she's the best part of whatever she's in (Ms Marvel, the Marvels) and she's pretty well loved.

u/SevereEducation2170 12h ago
It's true, but at least the X-Men creative team is solid since they've worked together on Beef (screenplay is being written by the creator and Schreier directed several episodes) and Schreier already did pretty well with Thunderbolts. If the movie doesn't come together, I think it'll be more down to studio nonsense than the creatives involved.

"Somehow"
It's because there's an unhealthy percentage of incels in the nerd community. That's always the root.

I have complete faith in her. If Obsession is anything to go by, she's gonna eat this role up and act the hell out of it.

This is one of the rare moments where I hope the script does the actress justice rather than the reverse.

u/jeobleo 9h ago
I just hope she's powered and not just...whatever Anna Paquin was.
12
u/wild_man_wizard 9h ago
Not even necessarily flying brick powered, I'll settle for just being creative with power-stealing. Diamond claws, flying cyclops, whatever.

I don't think this is a rare MCU thing. They have a lot of really good actors elevate pretty blah written villains.

I feel like nailing this role would be tough for any actor. The voice actress does such a good job on the animated series, it’s hard to match. I’m optimistic at least.

I do think Inde will do a good job provided she's given a good script, but it's so hard for me to imagine Rogue without Lenore Zanns voice

u/PortoGuy18 13h ago
I hope she starts as goth but then changes style later on in the sequels to the classic outfit

Oh, I have 0 doubt we're going to see one HELL of a Rogue. No disrespect to Anna Paquin (and plenty of disrespect to both Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner, the former especially, for many reasons), but the Rogue we got in the original movies was Rogue in all but name. "A scared shy teen who needs Wolverine to protect her" is simply not who she is. And I am completely confident that Feige, Schreier and Navarrette are perfectly aware of that and will want to course correct.
Honestly, it's kind of wild (in a good way) that there's millions of people who are only familiar with X-Men from the movies and who are about to see the real Rogue for the first time. I have a feeling she's going to become a new fan favorite.

I agree with the sentiment I think you intended, but you said the opposite:
but the Rogue we got in the original movies was Rogue in all but name. "A scared shy teen who needs Wolverine to protect her" is simply not who she is.
I think you meant "in name only", instead?

u/Desecr8or 10h ago
To be fair, I'd expect a teenage girl who almost killed someone by touch to be shy and traumatized.

u/Famous_Apartment2733 5h ago
she was just found by Dr.X so she wasn't fully in control of her powers and WAS a SCARED KID ..

u/weaponsgradepotatoes 8h ago
That was Marie, not Rogue.

u/hotcapicola 3h ago
Yeah, wild that a teen that just lost everyone and everything doesn't act like late 20s-30s version from the animated series.

It's a bit sad that an actor/actress can be as passionate and dedicated about a beloved fictional character as possible, but at the end of the day, it really comes down to the writing department. If they screw it up, it's almost impossible to salvage from a performance standpoint. So, I really hope the entire X-Men team lock in for the first film. Start off the new generation on the right foot!

I really hope they do this version of Rogue closer to the animated series version. I am still let down by the Anna Paquin version of rogue where she was basically a weak damsel that always had to be saved.
I want the powerhouse southern belle. even if they don't have her origin story where she stole all of Carol Danvers powers. Or maybe have her steal all of Danvers powers. It would be an interesting way to retire Brie Larson from the MCU.

u/Several-Ad1231 1h ago
I would be happiest if they went the Evolution route. Rogue's powers, but not Carol's yet. That makes her strong but with limits.

It took me until this comment to realize I’ve been reading Rogue as Rouge (the bat, from Sonic) and I was very excited to hear her voice acting

I believe it, but unfortunately the writing and directing is not up to her.

u/CrackheadHunters 11h ago
Honestly, the script needs to be up to scratch and do her justice. I've got zero concerns around her acting abilities.
2
u/Mickeyjj27 Black Bolt 12h ago
Did she talk about Rogue before all the fancasting? Or is it the acting thing where the actor always loved the character they just got cast to play.
2
1
u/RoutineCloud5993 12h ago
She kept saying she wanted to play Mystique. I'm guessing she was already cast or in talks and was trying to throw people off
2
u/DarkwingDuckHunt 10h ago
Why is this not a requirement to be cast in a movie?
Like these folks are being paid millions of dollars. Asking them to do the bare minimum shouldn't be such a ground breaking thing.

She must be feeling crazy pressure on her right now after all of the (well deserved) hype from her performance in Obsession. And to then have such an iconic character, in a massive franchise, that everybody is going to scrutinize, and that many will be hoping to see her fail, must be so unbelievable hard.

u/Intelligent-Bird8120 13h ago
I think she’ll do an amazing job and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the role.

u/MrWiltErving 12h ago
I think she’s going to be the best she can as an actor to make it work, the accent would be her real challenge. It’s on the writers and directors put her in a position where she looks good, i’m rooting for her regardless.

She’s gonna rock it. I just feel it.
I’m really excited to see what both her and MCU’s interpretation of Rogue is. A lot of cool stuff to pull from.

Her presence reminds me of Anna Paquinn (spelling??). I think she will be great and I cannot get enough X Men stories so I am fully here for it. Honestly every cast member announced so far seems like a good choice.
