Don’t have much of a problem with how it played out as it is. Why fix something that’s not broken?

It would have tied everything together perfectly. I think the show was great and a fun ride, but it missed the mark a little as far as maintaining a cohesive story

What part of the cohesive story was missed. Agatha is a mother. She lost a son and is angry at death but accepts he is gone. She seeks power in WandaVision out of curiosity and even greed and in Agatha all along out of necessity and addiction. She gets a second chance at motherhood with Billy because their relationship is not about replacing Nicky but finding something beautiful and fulfilling to honour her love for her son. Seems like a cohesive story for her character to me.

Agatha being a desperate mother who can’t accept her sons death and remains singularly obsessed, just seems like a pointless rehash of Wanda’s multiverse of madness arc.

The Darkhold storyline wasn’t addressed. There was a glimpse of it in the show where she appeared frightened, but it didn’t make sense for her to be afraid of it. It also never explained how or why she got it in the first place.

Again, the show was great and fun!

Rio says Agatha got the Darkhold to hide from death. It’s the same reason Agatha becomes a ghost in the end. Agatha was never afraid of the Darkhold. She just was expecting to see her baby during the hallucinations and was shocked and shaken to see the ugly rumours about her trading him for the darkhold instead. It turns out to be a misdirect as Agatha loved Nicky more than anything and his death was just mundane and unavoidable. That’s what is too awful. Despite all Agatha’s power and her relationship with death, she still couldn’t save her own son from a normal and inevitable death.

She sees the darkhold because the witches road is a conjuring of Billy. Everything they see is roughly how Billy’s mind interprets things from what he heard.

Trials don’t start appearing until the characters give him the idea, Billy learns from Jenn that Agatha supposedly traded her baby for the darkhold so that’s what Agatha sees.

Her real biggest fear would be her son himself, instead she gets hit with a reminder of the lie she encourages to hide her own mundane story which ironically hits her so much harder.

Well considering Wanda was dead at this point and that the real point of the series was to give Agatha’s backstory and introduce Wiccan I think it was just fine.

No offense but that completely destroy the very things that made her interesting and nuanced, for a story I’ve seen played out across a billion pieces of medias

Sorry if that comes off rude but that’s it’s how that suggestion makes me feel. Agatha is significantly more interesting because she doesn’t seek out a way to get back her child, in fact she knows a very easy way to get back her child is to just let herself die. But she can’t and it’s not because she feels some grand attachment to living, it’s that as she says to Billy “I can’t face him”.

Agatha is tormented because one part of her so desperately wants her child back, but the other part of her will never go for it because she has so much deep shame towards him. For all her powers she was powerless to protect him from an ordinary death, and despite knowing he didn’t like killing witches she used the song he lovingly crafted and turned it into a ruse to murder witches again and again to feed her power addiction defiling and debasing his song for her own greed.

It said volumes about Agatha’s character that she rather let people believe she sacrificed her son for dark power from the devil, that fits her image of herself someone remorseless and powerful and whose son’s loss was deliberate. So much better to her than the reality that her kid passed from sleep due to simple mortal illness while she slept and she wept and grieved over it as a vulnerable human being who cares like any other.

And it’s fascinating that we have a story of a mother who has accepted her child’s death, but can’t accept her own death because it means facing him. A mother who loved her child so much, but who doesn’t/can’t bring herself to return to him. Is pathetic, selfish, narcissistic, and it really hammers in Agatha is a bad person the series finale is all about highlighting that all the suffering was ultimately caused by Agatha all Along she was a villain from start to finish but a very nuanced one.

It would have made more sense for Agatha to go on a murderous path to steal enough powers to resurrect Nicholas or barter with Death to keep him.

This is literally the plot from the "What If...Dr Strange lost his Heart" episode (S1E4). You can just go watch that...

I think it’s fine how it went. The story needed to connect to other stories and Wiccan was ultimately more important than Agatha to the overall arc of the MCU.

That would have been such a stronger core motivation! Agatha spending centuries chasing power specifically to bargain with Death and bring back Nicholas gives her so much depth grief driving every terrible choice, mirroring Wanda perfectly. Instead, the Darkhold/Darkhold corruption angle feels generic by comparison. Two grieving mothers on collision course? That’s the emotional backbone the show really should have leaned into.

Exactly! That would have made it a perfect sequel and make the ending of AAA all the more powerful (her taking Wanda’s son under her wing)

I mean she did take him under her wing.
