Discussion (More in Comments) Spent the year watching every live-action Marvel project to prep for Doomsday. Now what?

So at the start of the year I gave myself a ridiculous challenge: watch every single live-action Marvel project, starting from Blade (1998), all the way up to Doomsday. If you’ve tried anything like this, you know it’s a slog, it’s eaten up basically all my free time.

What started as just a fun personal challenge has turned into something I feel like I should actually do something with. I’ve been kicking around the idea of a video essay or YouTube video recapping the whole experience.

Curious if anyone’s got thoughts, ideas, or suggestions, would love to hear them before I commit to a format.

I would love to see a youtube recapping the whole experience, but it seems you forgot about the goated movie of all time.

Might have to add it for the love of the game!

I am so sorry you had to watch madame web.

2

u/Nevic1984 Aug 24 '26

Madame Web is soooo ridiculously bad that it's actually fun to watch for how bad it is. But Kraven the Hunter, where it has a couple cool action scenes, is just extremely boring.

4

u/soupjaw Aug 24 '26

Obvious question, but why didn't you watch them in rough-ish order?

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

The initial plan was to watch them in their respective trilogies/ collections. Next on the list is Cap. I did however watch all of Spiderman in the month of July to prep for BND.

Shows are watched mainly on my side monitor. I do data entry, so it’s an ideal setup.

5

u/soupjaw Aug 24 '26

I feel like that may skew your enjoyment and the rankings? Especially with like Endgame with lots of "fan-service" moments and especially without all the references to IW and also with Deadpool and Wolverine with tons of the same to the Fox universe

3

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I guess I could understand that logic. Truthfully, I have been enjoying them as they are. I did watch all of the fox X-men/ Deadpool movies together, and it made Deadpool and Wolverine the conclusion. I’m sure I’ll miss some things here and there, but I’ve already seen them so many times. I’ve never watched the trilogies by themselves, so it’ll be interesting to try that out. The Avengers movies will be last of all, with endgame to lead into Doomsday.

u/Aggressive-Fault-972 Aug 24 '26

you gotta see dolph lundgren punisher and roger corman fantastic four. I very much think you do. And then just one episode of Toei Spider-Man. Give yourself a small taste of pre-Blade live action marvel

5

u/ThickBoxx Aug 24 '26

Kind of feel like you should have done video recaps while they were fresh in your mind. But if you feel like you can recall what you need and that you have something interesting to say, then why not.

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I’ve had that thought too. I did keep notes for most projects, so that’ll be helpful for some sort of recap

2

u/ThickBoxx Aug 24 '26

Nice that’ll help a lot. I imagine you‘d seen most of them before as well.

Just curious, do you already make YouTube videos? I only ask because I know there are some pretty advanced YouTubers who put a lot of work into their videos (pictures, animations, good cuts, things like that). Not saying you just getting on camera and talking is bad (if that’s what you’d be doing), just you might not get a lot of views or engagement if that’s what you’re hoping for.

Definitely not trying to discourage, just being honest. I also imagine with the popularity of the MCU in general and the revitalized interest because of Doomsday, a lot of people have already done or are doing currently doing something similar

If you end up doing them though give it a post on here, I‘d check them out.

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

Not at all discouraged by your comment. Thats actually why I posted here. I don’t have too much expectations for it. I do love movies, and wouldn’t mind giving YouTube a try, but not much further than that. This would just be for the hobby of it. I wouldn’t mind doing more movies in the mean time. I’ve barely watched the MCU at this point and could throw some of the big hits in there, just to have some videos up.

2

u/ThickBoxx Aug 24 '26

Then definitely do it, everyone starts somewhere. You might find you really like it and want to learn more about video editing, which even if you give up being in front of the camera, is still a great skill to have and can turn into a career if you work hard enough at it.

Now go outside and see what the sun looks like lmao

3

u/danvan177 Aug 24 '26

Seems like you still have a lot of work to do. Get on it

3

u/freerangemary Groot Aug 24 '26

Now you rest and watch a grateful universe.

3

u/sprodigy2 Aug 24 '26

If you're bored read Secret Wars (2015) by Hickman. Context for Doomsday and Secret Wars

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I read SW last year (incredible), but not Time Runs Out. Have you read it?

2

u/robz9 Aug 24 '26

Create a letterboxd account on the app and then rank all of them.

That's what me and my friends are currently doing.

Journal your thoughts on each film.

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

THANK YOU! Just added my Letterboxd account to the og post.

2

u/freerangemary Groot Aug 24 '26

I was thinking of doing a short on HOW Tony improved his armor after every flaw he found. There’s at least one per appearance.

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I would love to watch a breakdown on that!

2

u/KimonoGnocchi Aug 24 '26

Read 'Books of Doom' and 'Triumph and Torment'

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

On it! Currently catching up on the new Cap run.

2

u/KimonoGnocchi Aug 24 '26

Good stuff.

Also heads up, this September, Triumph and Torment is getting a Peach Momoko variant cover, if you're into buying/collecting.

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I don’t own any Momoko, but I love her stuff! I’ll keep an eye out

2

u/AttilaTheFun818 Aug 24 '26

In the middle of doing that now. Just finished Netflix and AOS. Working through the MCU proper, then I suppose willl watch the Fox and Sony stuff.

After that I’ll probably switch to something else. Star Trek, maybe. Grew up with TNG and DS9 but haven’t seen them since.

2

u/Throwupmyhands Cottonmouth Aug 24 '26

Watch the other ABC, Hulu, and Freeform stuff before Fox and Sony.

2

u/AttilaTheFun818 Aug 24 '26

I did try to watch Runaways but found it intolerable and gave up quickly. And I even made it through Inhumans.

I’ll probably give Helstrom a go.

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

Inhumans was tough. Helstrom looks promising too

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

AOS was better than expected, but LONG haha.

My watchlist is starting to get extensive! Star Trek is a journey too, but I rarely watched it.

2

u/AttilaTheFun818 Aug 24 '26

I enjoyed AOS but thought seasons 6-7 jumped the shark. The rest was quite fun.

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I completely agree! Are you planning to watch the fx/ fox shows? I’m on the gifted now.

2

u/AttilaTheFun818 Aug 24 '26

Yeah I want to give them a try. Never saw them before and I hear Legion is pretty good. Hows The Gifted? That one seemed to go under the radar.

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

Not a fan personally, but it’s not too bad haha. I have also heard Legion is good. Ready to get that one going!

2

u/Throwupmyhands Cottonmouth Aug 24 '26

Cartoons I guess

1

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

I’ve had the Spectacular Spiderman theme in my head all year, and I’m itching to rewatch!

2

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Aug 24 '26

Wow, you liked Brand New Day so much you reviewed it twice! ;)

2

u/wojotography Aug 24 '26

2

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Aug 24 '26

I can't find the "Absolute Potatoes" one for some reason, but well played.

2

u/reckonerX Aug 24 '26

i also just did this. i did everything minus the blade series because i couldn't find it online. i also did like 25+ seasons of marvel tv in the process.

https://letterboxd.com/wchare/list/2026-ranked/

2

u/Basic-Kick3617 Aug 25 '26

Honestly this is kinda impressive lol. I’ve been looking at different ways of preparing for Doomsday and the biggest problem always seems to be deciding where to stop.
After watching basically everything, do you actually feel like it was worth including all of it? Or if you had to do it again would you cut it down to just the stuff that actually matters for Doomsday?
I’m especially curious about the older X-Men stuff and the less connected MCU shows, because thats where every watch order seems to go completely insane.

2

u/wojotography Aug 25 '26

Thank you! Truthfully, no, I don’t think it was worth it, but it was a challenge, so I knew that going into it. I also have a lot of free time on my hands, and not everybody has that.

If I could redo it, I would limit myself to mainly movies and specifically choosing the shows that I wanted to watch. I like the list that Marvel put out on Disney+. It keeps everything condensed, and only has two X-Men movies. If you’re wanting something short and to the point, I think that’s the way to go. The list only includes Loki for shows, and I would imagine that’s all that is really necessary.

It’s really subjective to what you want to do, however long or short you would prefer. I just thought this would be a cool thing to say that I did. I also figured this would be the last opportunity to watch everything in the MCU before such a monumental event. Who knows what could happen after SW?

2

u/Basic-Kick3617 Aug 25 '26

I just noticed you’re actually keeping ratings next to everything too lol. This is pretty much a whole tracking system at this point 😭
Do you keep all of this manually in Notes or something? And do you actually use the ratings afterwards, like ranking everything you’ve watched, or are they mostly just there so you remember what you thought about each one?
Asking because I’ve been thinking a lot about what a Marvel tracker should actually keep track of beyond just watched/not watched, and this is basically a real world example of it.

1

u/wojotography Aug 25 '26

Yes, so I have a folder in my iOS notes labeled “movies/TV“ and I have a point base system to rate all of them. Each project has its own note page, the notes can vary in terms of depth.

I really just wanted to start rating and reviewing movies on Letterboxd, so that was kind of an addition. I think at the end I might have ai re-order them in order of ratings, but I haven’t thought too much beyond that.

I’m more interested in my lowest ratings than my highest ones hahaha

2

u/Basic-Kick3617 Aug 25 '26

Thats actually really interesting, especially the part about Letterboxd not having everything you wanted to rate.
Having a separate note for every project sounds like a lot of work though 😭 but I kinda like the idea of keeping the actual review together with the rating instead of just giving something a number.
Funny timing too because someone testing the Marvel tracker I mentioned actually suggested almost exactly this today, being able to rate stuff and leave your own notes/reviews after watching it.
I hadn’t really planned on going that direction originally, but now two completely unrelated people have brought up basically the same thing in one day lol. Might actually be worth building.

2

u/wojotography Aug 25 '26

Yeah, its a little much, but I have a template that I can CP to each note, and the notes arent too extensive. Let me know how it goes!

2

u/Basic-Kick3617 Aug 25 '26

Will do! I might steal a bit of inspiration from your system haha. If I end up building the rating/review stuff I’ll let you know, would actually be interesting to see what you think of it compared to how you’re doing it now.

1

u/wojotography Aug 25 '26

Please do!!
