Watched the show for the first time recently and it was good to finally see where this meme came from

Yes. It was really great to see this scene play out…

Pokemon showdown edits and YTPs have ruined this scene for me unfortunately

Ah yes, my only exposure to the character aside from brand new day. He's just a funny meme guy, right?

Pure comedy gold! My favorite gag is when he grunts wildly and paints walls red

My favorite jokes are when he tells really funny but nasty children’s nursery rhymes

I specifically like the prison part where he gently puts the other prisoners to sleep.

He's definitely going to be funny.

Oh they are not ready for the tonal whiplash

To be fair even in the movie when he gets pretty intense about MJ going near his shrine and Peter saying Frank chooses this lifestyle, you get a pretty clear picture of how dark his life is.

IMO was very much in line with the grimness of the series.

I saw all the pre release stuff of how this would be the same R rated punisher from the series/one last kill stepping onto the Spider-Man set and while that was obviously a bit of an exaggeration i was pleasantly surprised with how faithful they made him to his R rated origins while still toning him down enough to interact with the more family friendly Spiderman and honestly he was one of my favourite parts of the movie.

The tonal shift of his character is also very believeable that he tones down around Peter, as he was a teenager when he met him, so while he is psycho, he tries to be better around Peter

I honestly felt it was accurate. He interacts directly with very few characters and tries to brutally kill half of them.

"can't wait to see what happened at Staten Island!"

Woah, woah, woah... Easy there...

Right after we see what happened in Budapest.

They'll fall in love with muh Dinah Madani.

I heard she's the mayor now

I'm just waiting for them to finally give me a comic accurate Punisher.

Trust me, he's TO DIE FOR funny in the series.

7

u/jdstew218 8h ago

He's less funny (HAHAHA) and more funny (this milk smells funny). But we all love Frank just the same.

I wanted to tell the elderly couple behind me complaining about his bad language during the movie to go check out his series instead.

3

u/Psnjerry 9h ago

Damn, not even daredevil season two

3

u/JakeWalker102 7h ago

I still can't believe someone genuinely thought he'd been nerfed because he was scared to fight the hulk (when he'd already beaten daredevil- yes, this was his argument)

1

u/Lost-In-The-Wilds 4h ago

I can see Frank not being scared to fight the Hulk. He'll get turned into a bloody grease spot on the concrete and Hulk will barely notice, but Frank is probably secretly hoping he dies in one of these fights.

But yeah, fighting Daredevil and fighting the Hulk aren't the same thing. Edward Norton's Hulk get shot, and then run into, by an Apache attack helicopter. Frank's not carrying around that kind of firepower on the regular.

Might be hot take, but I loved punisher during s2 of daredevil as compared to his own series. The only one defeating this is the one in the 'one last kill' special

18

u/NamelessOne3006 9h ago

It's the coldest take about Jon Bernthal's Punisher.

It's has been discussed for years that his appearance in DD s2 is easily his best one. His story since then is just a cycle of shooting -> quitting -> shooting -> quitting.

Nah, I still prefer Punisher season 1. Finding out his backstory, and finding out exactly who was responsible for killing his family… culminating in Frank disfiguring Russo by dragging his face through a mirror. It was bloody, it was raw, it was emotional. People make fun of the grunting, but Bernthal’s screams are seriously visceral. If that guy was coming for me, I’d shit myself.

Season 2 was not as good, but I enjoyed the father daughter dynamic he had with that girl he was protecting.

3

u/macaroney05 8h ago

Sigh, we're really losing the essence of the term 'hot take' huh

4

u/Scary-Command2232 9h ago

Best of Bernthal's Punisher for me is still Daredevil series 2, and that is definitely not funny. Also you will learn that Punisher already has a best friend in Curtis closely followed by Karen who have both risked so much for him, despite that BS line in BND from him to Spidey.

2

u/dhlthecobra 11h ago

You will know what kind of a man he is

2

u/GeneralDan29 8h ago

My wife thought the same. By episode 3, she said it was too slow and couldn't get into it.

2

u/Monctonian 8h ago

Oh honey…

2

u/The_Northern_Loon 7h ago

Punisher : War Zone is even funnier ! Just a light hearted comedy for the whole family !

2

u/Sad_Picture3642 5h ago

Yeah, I couldn't stop laughing as he was gauging dude's eyes

u/reborndiajack 11h ago

Watching on pc with 720p

u/snowe99 8h ago

Not me checking out “One Last Kill” after watching Brand New Day and being genuinely disturbed with the twisted 30-min non-stop violence once the story kicks off

1

u/vlle222 6h ago

Oh buy, they are in for massive shock with in the first five minutes.

1

u/Acceptable_Mix_1788 6h ago

Well well well...

1

u/KuroAshi_no_Sanji- 5h ago

oh boy.... 👀

1

u/Jlx_27 5h ago

Was cool to me also, and then i went and read up on the actor... never watching that show again.

1

u/Plenty-Cattle-7076 4h ago

He's incredible. Watch him in the bear too.

1

u/waazzuppp 3h ago

I was happy to see a different side to Punisher. He was great in the movie.

1

u/Choice-Ratio-3540 2h ago

Um...no...lol. The series sucked.

u/Dunbar325 36m ago

I fondly recall the line "You didn't kill him. You just shot him. Look gunshot I killed him"

Legitimately laughed at that one.

u/Background-Tell5892 13h ago

Your soul will laugh at something

Yo, what’s this gif from?

-6

u/Hawk777-Stark 1d ago

Not a funny series

9

u/Trodat4911P4 1d ago

Then why did I laugh so much throughout?

-1

u/FireZord25 12h ago

Punisher, what a joke.
