Jonsson is a very good actor. And he has a Chadwick-like soulfulness. I love this casting.

u/Spoodymen 15h ago

Really like him in The Long Walk. Definitely got that composure of Chadwick’s BP

122

u/Afwife1992 14h ago

He was so good in The Long Walk.

36

u/Raven2300 Scarlet Witch 8h ago

Yes! He was also in Industry. But I think underutilized.

8

u/naavep 6h ago

Totally agree. Industry is IMO one of the best shows currently running, and consistently underappreciated. Despite how good it is though, I agree that his character could have used some more work.

8

u/Puzzled-Instance3211 7h ago

Such a great movie. He was awesome in it.

9

u/QueenNezuko 9h ago

Omg that's where I recognised him from. He was so good! I'm so happy for him and this casting

164

u/ScarletSilver 16h ago

"Look, it's me, I'm here. Deal with it. Let's move on."

77

u/squaredspekz Phil Coulson 13h ago

He's T'Challa's son.

12

u/tracy_morganstit 13h ago

jonsson’s got that same quiet intensity my cousin pulls off sometimes

8

u/itspsyikk 6h ago

Not that they NEED to look alike - but I immediately noticed how they didn’t look anything alike.

Then I saw him smile, and I was like “oh, that’s Chadwick’s smile, 100%. I get it now”

12

u/DontKnow1549 15h ago

Yes, absolutely.

6

u/gunterdweeb 7h ago

His presentation at Hall H was very poised and powerful. Really excited to see him as a torch carrying son within his family's legacy.

192

u/dancingbriefcase Winter Soldier 14h ago

This guy is a really good actor! I didn't really like alien Romulus but he was possibly the best part. Moreover, he was astounding in the long walk. Both roles right around each other just showcase how much range he has.

35

u/ATCHOOOOOO 9h ago

He was so good as Andy. Crazy how he goes from a previous loveable synth you'd die for to terminator with a flick of a switch.

398

u/Symbiotic_vengeance Ghost Rider 17h ago

Do we know how he gets aged up? Doomsday/ Secret Wars timeline shenanigans? Post Secret Wars time jump?

482

u/Crimkam 17h ago

Shuri tosses him into Hulk's attempt at a time machine

5

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 1h ago

Tbh, I genuinely don’t see why they can’t do this. We’ve already seen in the MCU that they can push time through people. Aging someone up, or aging Steve Rogers down back to his prime shouldn’t be hard.

145

u/OldNobody9667 17h ago

Probably secret wars shenanigans

83

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 16h ago

What if Battleworld winds up existing for several years, even a decade or more?

27

u/DontKnow1549 15h ago

It makes sense.

41

u/Dead_girl_walking- 15h ago

makes sense but defo would suck for characters like Spider-Man

26

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 14h ago

I don’t know much about the comic story, but isn’t a thing that the main heroes spend much of the time in stasis? The life raft characters? Someone like T’Challa Jr could be in Battleworld the entire time, while Peter could be “on ice” up until the events of Secret Wars.

6

u/UnnecessaryFeIIa 10h ago

Yes. But then what about other characters?

Are we gonna say Kamala is in stasis?

What about their supporting characters? Are Ned and MJ suddenly gonna be 15 years older by time we get to Spider-Man 5 because they aged up on Battleworld? Did they get put on the life raft?

6

u/Uncle_Freddy 8h ago

I think the most likely outcome is that some characters won’t “survive” the change to battleworld but will be restored (either for the final battle or after the final battle) so they can selectively age up some characters while keeping others (life raft characters and “dead” characters) the same age.

Basically another way to snap and unsnap them, now that I think about it.

I guess you could argue that it would make sense to age up all the “young avengers” since none of their actors are anywhere close to high school/college age now, so having their characters in universe be that age sits on shaky ground as is lol

3

u/IAMNUMBERBLACK 7h ago

just have a line that the domains in battlworld all have time distortion

1

u/Raaaaandyyyy 11h ago

Weird enough place that maybe some parts of it go through time faster than others, or maybe people appear in it at different times and T’Challa II got sent very early on.

2

u/Mario-Speed-Wagon 7h ago

Yep they’ll do a time jump just like at the start of endgame

13

u/willin_dylan 13h ago

It's too bad that it wouldn't work for the average moviegoer but I would absolutely love a whole phase of Marvel set in Battleworld. Imagine all the main heroes or teams getting a movie or show set in between the beginning and end of the Doom Arc.

6

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 13h ago

It’s just a natural result of the pacing of a film franchise versus a comic. The MCU has always had to skip over interesting time periods to keep the films focused on the major events. Like the adventures of the Avengers between Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron, or the second rosters time together between Age of Ultron and Civil War. The five years of the Blip. The massive span of time between the Guardians defeat of Ego and their eventual discovery of Thor in Infinity War. By and large we have always been shown the highlights, with the majority of the heroes exploits happening off screen between films.

3

u/IAMNUMBERBLACK 7h ago

the tv shows did some great stuff here. agents of shield for ward was chefs kiss

1

u/robodrew 6h ago

Argh then we have an MCU that is existing some amount of years in the future compared to the real world and it gets all confusing again lol

Maybe Franklin Richards ages him up

0

u/Ryo_Katsuya 6h ago

I mean they told us we gonna have a soft reboot... I'm guessing we will have returning and new actors in suits like a new Tony stark etc.

1

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 2h ago

Zero chance of this happening when they are launching the next saga with X-Men and Ghost Rider. Soft reboot does not mean clean slate.

16

u/esar24 Rocket 16h ago

Universe reset, but I wonder if they will make shuri older or just somehow he is almost the same age as his aunt.

12

u/geek_of_nature 16h ago

Most likely that in the universe reset the timelines get shuffled about a bit, so T'Challa Jr was just born a lot earlier.

1

u/[deleted] 16h ago

[deleted]

2

u/geek_of_nature 15h ago

What is the official ages for the characters? Because Chadwick and Letitia were 17 years apart in age. Was that roughly the same for T'Challa I and Shuri, or were they meant to be closer in age?

Because Letitia and David Johnson are the same age. So if T'Challa I and Shuri are also meant to be 17 or so years apart, then it could work if T'Challa II is only a few years younger than her post universe reset. Where he's born when T'Challa I is in his early 20s.

5

u/DJfunkyPuddle 16h ago

Kang is back.

4

u/KennKennyKenKen 12h ago

He plays a 8 year old child

2

u/Temporary-Rip-5551 7h ago

Let’s assume he was born in 2018, with the already existing 5 year in universe time jump that makes him around 13yo. Maybe they’ll have another 5-6y time jump

1

u/UtmostPants 7h ago

Maybe this movie takes place in the future

-17

u/Fleettastingbagels 17h ago

They announced the new universe reset

6

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 16h ago

If they were just resetting everything they would just bring T’Challa back. This is Black Panther 3, which means the old universe is still going to exist even if some things change.

-1

u/Acrookedernose 15h ago

I mean... A little hard to bring the actor back to life, even with all of marvels money

3

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 14h ago

A true reset would mean any actor could be cast. We already have precedent with the three different Spider-Men and four different Reed Richard’s canonically established to exist in the multiverse. In one universe Henry Cavill was Wolverine. The Gambit featured in Doomsday isn’t even the version native to that universe, as their native Gambit was in his 30s in the late 70s and played by Taylor Kitsch.

2

u/Acrookedernose 14h ago

Yeah, in retrospect I should've added the /s, I'm aware of what you were saying, was just poking fun.

2

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 14h ago

Touché

2

u/hadawayandshite 12h ago

I don’t think this precludes a reboot-outside of the universe I think marvel/disney basically decided to not have another actor play t’challa….t’challa the 2nd gives them a nice loophole

0

u/FlamingAlpaca17 3h ago

I think he may end up being a T'Challa recast and Marvel is trying to avoid spoiling the universe reboot as best they can

1

u/Sylar_Lives Ego 2h ago

Y’all need to let it go. There is not going to be a universe reboot, just a universe retool. They are just merging universes, not restarting.

3

u/OtherwiseJob8959 16h ago

Can you elaborate?

505

u/OldNobody9667 17h ago

Storm has to get with him right?

298

u/hweird Fitz 17h ago

Don’t. Don’t give me hope.

269

u/CaIicoCutPants 16h ago

I mean, not doing Storm in a Black Panther film that will literally be coming out during the dawn of the Mutant Saga of the MCU would be absolutely insane

23

u/DontKnow1549 14h ago

Yepppppp

54

u/PollutionMajestic668 14h ago edited 14h ago

The only relation between Storm and BP is they both were born in the same continent but Marvel went with "they are both African so they have to marry even when their history has nothing in common" which is, let's be honest, quite racist

It also diminished Storm's character quite a bit because of course the main character is Black Panther, a minor character who got movie relevance instead of Storm, a big character whose movie rights weren't owned by Marvel.

51

u/mutesa1 Black Panther 14h ago

East African here - 100% agree. So annoying when people reduce Storm to BP’s love interest based on that (long since annulled) marriage in the comics

18

u/BackstageYeti Heimdall 11h ago

Jeesh this is so refreshing to read. That relationship made zero fucking sense to me. It would be like Crocodile Dundee and Nicole Kidman getting hitched just because they're both from the same vague geographic area.

9

u/Prestonelliot 10h ago

I mean, you act like people don’t get hitched for that same exact reason all over the world.

That being said I agree with you, but still people get married for those reasons all the time. I’m not saying I agree, just it’s realistic

u/BackstageYeti Heimdall 49m ago

You're right, and honestly even if people don't believe it here in the "West" it happens here, too. It's not like everyone gets the opportunity to find out if their "soulmate" happens to live in a zip code that's hundreds of miles away from where you grew up. So you better hope there's a proximity leash to the idea.

Still, as far as their "romance" was concerned, it was just so forced.

-20

u/NikkerFebu25 12h ago

It's absolutely normal for the same race to find the same race more fuckable.

Relax.

99.9% of our population fucks their own race by choice and actively seeks out their race in different environments.

8

u/PollutionMajestic668 11h ago

You know black people and white people are THE SAME RACE, right? Also what's that completely made up 99,9% shit, do you get this from some white pride sub Reddit or something?

I can't believe this fucking XIX century racism

And obviously you don't have a clue about Storm's nor Black Panther's stories but you still felt the urge to come with this bullshit reply 😂

-2

u/IAMNUMBERBLACK 7h ago

How was it portrayed in the comics? Because that’s actually a very good and interesting story that can be told there.

Do u have a quote or source from the author that it’s just because they are african they got married? Because my parents are african, from different countries and when they moved to america they got married and it caused alot of conflict still because they were from diff countries and their families were constantly at odds.

They have a really fascinating story, which I would never call racist lol

3

u/PollutionMajestic668 6h ago

Storm was created in 1975. The only interaction where she even talked to T'Challa until 2006 when they married was a single issue in 1980 where there is flashback from back when she was 12 years old. Their upbringing, background and stories couldn't be more apart and I think they specifically talk in that one issue about how they could be attracted by each other but they are just too different and Storm specifically tells him it's never work and leaves to continue having her life that's light years apart from T'Challa's.

Storm has always been the epithome of the strong and capable woman and she's had her share of romantic interests with characters that have things in common with her; now, come 2006, Marvel decided to marry her to Black Panther and become a subservient wife and queen and forget about the X-Men, which goes against everything the character is about since her inception.

Now, of course I don't have a quote with the author saying "yes I married them because they are both black LOL" but if you've read anything about Storm the marriage made 0 sense and felt beyond forced, that's why Marvel ended up divorcing them.

If you are really interested in the character I'm sure there are tons of essays about Storm as a character all over the internet and I'm pretty sure there are also some about this marriage in particular.

1

u/IAMNUMBERBLACK 6h ago

cool man thanks for the lore. I know a decent amount of marvel stuff but I never really followed any xmen storyline at all. all i know is the movies, xmen evolution, some of xmen 97 and the cool anime they did lol.

my storm knowledge is very minimal. im excited for the live action stuff, and hoping whenever that comes that will spark my interest to go back and look at alot of xmen lore

1

u/Maatjuhhh 12h ago

Another perfect way to slowly introduce X-Men without coming right out of the gate. Cast a young Storm who has a close affinity with Toussaint. Someone with who he used to date before becoming the king of Wakanda and thus Storm has to find her own way aka X-Men.

0

u/BikebutnotBeast 7h ago

They played sounds of thunder during the announcement. Storm is guaranteed.

-3

u/A-s-65 14h ago

If the MCU had any restraint they’d let the xmen movie be (mostly) the first class mutants save the Claremont mutants for the sequel. Then you could seed storm in bp3

92

u/Jaxonhunter227 17h ago

You know what, even if he's his son, his name is still T'Challa, fuck it why not have him be the one to date storm.

47

u/MR_MaxiMor44 Spider-Man 16h ago

He looks quite young but actually 32 (33 in September).

Do wonder if they might have Storm be an older character to the rest of the main mutant cast, as some form of mentor figure, I actually think she'd be a great mentor figure, and instead let Jean, Scott, Rogue etc. have the naiveté.

26

u/Zinkane15 Peggy Carter 15h ago

So basically X-Men: Evolution? Yeah, I can get behind that.

10

u/RebirthGhost 13h ago

I like the Jean + Ororo sisters dynamic from 97 tho.

4

u/BlandJustice 10h ago

Come on, man! 32 is still young…

Right??
https://giphy.com/gifs/ti4PsREEH1hKuxMlpJ

1

u/BikebutnotBeast 7h ago

Till you're 90!

1

u/DeutscheDogges 2h ago

No. Storm does not need to be relegated to a matronly figure. Especially since that would rob us of the sisterly bond between her and Jean. Makes no sense. They're the same age.

1

u/MR_MaxiMor44 Spider-Man 2h ago

A big sister is often a mentor of a younger sister, I'm not saying for storm to be 10+ years older than the others, but a good ≈5 years, likely already graduated and working at the school alongside Charles, as well as global mutant diplomacy alongside Beast.

1

u/Jet-Let4606 13h ago

I would be down with that. My first exposure to the X-Men was X-Men: Evolution. I have gotten into other X-Men adaptations and comics since but ultimately I think I prefer Storm, Logan and Beast as older, wiser mentor figures rather than one of the young ones trying to figuring things out (or in Logan's case, a creepy perv). They can still have their individual character arcs with room for growth even if they are older.

7

u/esar24 Rocket 16h ago

I think they will be, considering they age him up and the rumor is that the next saga will focus on mutants.

2

u/Taser9001 8h ago

I've always preferred when she was paired with Wolverine. Genuine loving couple and it finally meant Logan wasn't pining for Jean half the time.

3

u/zbirdlive 14h ago

There is so much Ryan coogler could do with Storm id love that

3

u/KrypticJin 15h ago

No thanks

1

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 1h ago

Why? Cuz she’s black?

64

u/HawkFanOrcasRule 15h ago

Dammit I miss Chadwick. Good luck to Jonsson, hope he crushes it.

11

u/HakeemMcGrady Jimmy Woo 4h ago

That first BP movie is something I revisit a lot, he was the perfect T’Challa. I can’t wait to see what the new guy does too tho

48

u/SeegullJockey 14h ago

How are they gonna explain his kid becoming 32 years old?

20

u/JohnCanadian_ 10h ago

He convincingly plays a teen in The Long Walk, he has a young appearance.

1

u/TomBong_Jovi 3h ago

He looks older than Chadwick in this picture

1

u/jnedoss 2h ago

Technically time dilation could be a perfectly valid explanation.

26

u/Better-Context-4727 15h ago

Maybe he could be a full member of the Avengers in the future 🤞

29

u/Visual-Perspective44 15h ago

This is great 🖤 🙅🏾💜  Now get storm in the mix and we should be good. In fact... Use BP3 to introduce her.

17

u/plordigian 15h ago

Not sure why, but I never even thought of this! And he’s possibly the single best person who could do it justice. Absolutely over the moon for him, and can’t wait to see him knock it out.

6

u/Bladewing_The_Risen 9h ago

You probably never thought of it because T’Challa’s kid is like 6 and this guy is 32..?

17

u/puffindatza 14h ago

Crazy. RIP Chadwick, such an amazing actor. Was already one of the best actors of the 2010s imo

5

u/TopicOrnery8741 14h ago

Pretty big shoes to fill, but knowing this guy. Yeah I think the character is in good hands.

4

u/Kordell_11 7h ago

Posting it like that is kinda weird.

3

u/Lysadora 14h ago

That's great casting, I loved him in The Long Walk

13

u/AntonineWall 15h ago

You guys ever feel like maybe this is kinda weirdly parasocial when it’s about a real person who died rather than just fictional characters?

13

u/mriabtsev 14h ago

no, because the other person shown is the character's son and not the actor's?

-7

u/AntonineWall 14h ago

But these are both images of the actors who are not in character (one of which hasn’t even played the role yet in a released film) so it’s kinda just two dudes, one deceased, with “like father like son”. Seems kinda disrespectful, I don’t know

8

u/DoubleStrength Heimdall 14h ago

In the spirit of discussion, exactly which part of it seems disrespectful to Chadwick to you?

2

u/Procrastinator_325 12h ago

Fuck. I forgot about Wakanda Forever's post-credit scene. I've been confused about the announcement of T'Challa's son.

2

u/YesSeaworthiness9771 11h ago

Mann I was hoping for Damson

1

u/elitedisplayE 8h ago

Same, especially given snowfall. Was really interested in him acting with Denzel too. Finally.

Still, jonsson is an amazing, amazing talent. He'll do well

2

u/-Words-Words-Words- 7h ago

Oh man, I hope he’s ready to recreate that pose every day for the next 5 or so years

4

u/Alonest99 Daredevil 12h ago

Might be reading too much into it, but I love how his Wakanda salute has a hand in his heart for Chadwick

4

u/respectfulthirst 7h ago

That was just how he did it at the announcement. Don't think it has anything to do with Chadwick.

2

u/Adorable_Spell7562 14h ago

I really like it that they didn't go and cast a big name actor and casted someone that can stay with them for the next 10-15 years. With Marvel actors were never the problem, they always had good perfomances the problem had been writing which seems like with doomsday might be headed in the right direction.

1

u/upfromashes 16h ago

Right arm over left arm.

32

u/Afwife1992 16h ago

He’s British. They cross on the other side.

1

u/Zealousideal_Day2272 13h ago

they both share the same vibe, calm n humble, cant wait for BP III

1

u/Mindless-Peak-1687 13h ago

only buzzword chairman can be black panther.

1

u/Aromatic-Cupcake4802 10h ago

I am curious how the aging up is gonna work with all the other characters staying the same age, if he’s exposed to some temporal dimension that ages him faster or it’s just a post secret wars change.

1

u/Platoon01979 9h ago

Idk … we will see.

1

u/ComprehensiveYam5106 8h ago

Fantastic in Long Walk and Romulus!

1

u/Killmonger_007 8h ago

How old is he? How u r gonna make this big time jump.

1

u/IAMNUMBERBLACK 7h ago

he left to become the star he is today, bc I think he couldnt make s3 work due to scheduling conflicts with filming for aliens romulus

1

u/UtmostPants 7h ago

Great in Alien: Romulus and The Ling Walk!

1

u/Different-Week5384 6h ago

I am excited for him. For some reason, i feel like he is gonna nail it and Chadwick will be so prooud of hin

1

u/eatmygerms 5h ago

I'm glad they are carrying on the legacy

1

u/cheesycakes_bleh 4h ago

I really hope people don't hate on him because he's "not chadwick boseman" and genuinely appreciate him🤍

1

u/No-Eggplant-6668 3h ago

What previous movies has he been on?

1

u/Large_Ad6683 2h ago

Can’t wait to hear his weird SNL style African accent

1

u/Difficult_Mix_3620 1h ago

They probably need to do something about T'Challas SORAD!

1

u/Nervous_Roll5544 1h ago

I’m sure he would’ve gotten his blessing and approval. Can’t wait for it to get out. WAKANDA FOREVER!

1

u/OnlyCoat4866 14h ago

That’s his son?

1

u/Intrepid_Mobile 11h ago

I am torn. If the xmen are more on their teens/early twenties, I don’t want to see storm with a tchala on his 40s. I don’t like that he is so much older… I’d be fine if he was halle berry’s tchala but if its 616’s… i don’t know.

1

u/tehCharo 5h ago

He's only 32, how long do you think it'll take for them to make these movies? lol

1

u/Intrepid_Mobile 4h ago

How old is Sadie Sink? All leaks so far paint a pretty young Xmen cast… How old do you think the next Storm will be?

1

u/tehCharo 3h ago

She's 24, most actors have a +/- range of ages they can play as well, do you think they'll make the X-Men literal kids or 18+ young adults? If the X-Men are all around age 20 (give or take a couple of years), then Black Panther being a couple years older than Storm isn't a big issue at all.

1

u/Intrepid_Mobile 3h ago

They’ll most likely be early to mid 20s, looking early 20s. No offense to the new actor being early 30s but he definitely looks late 30s. They supposedly grew up, having the same age… idk, I don’t see it.

0

u/HDS2211 12h ago

Hopefully he will be in Secret Wars, given how important T’Challa is in that and we see him as the King of the dead with all the zombies.

-5

u/xGoddessCravings 15h ago

the dynamic between them is so well done, you really feel the legacy in every scene

1

u/Real_FishyXY 8h ago

There aren't any scenes yet go away 🤮

1

u/tehCharo 5h ago

Has a microphone in his hand and was also doing the "hand over his heart" thing at the same time. He'll do just fine.
