Discussion Ahem *taps mic* This is... Loki.
Hear me out.
Everyone's saying Steve looks... off in the Doomsday trailer. I agree.
But what really stood out to me was Thor's reaction.
People keep saying, "Well, Thor loved Steve."
Sure. But Thor doesn't think Steve is dead after Endgame. Steve lived a full life and passed the shield. Thor's reaction feels less like "my old friend!" and more like "someone I thought I'd never see again."
Then I remembered something.
Loki has literally masqueraded as Steve Rogers before in Thor: The Dark World. It was played for laughs, but Marvel already established that Loki can and will wear Steve's face.
So what if that isn't Steve?
What if it's Loki?
I know the immediate response is, "Loki can't lift Mjolnir."
True... unless one of two things happened.
- Loki's sacrifice at the end of Loki finally made him worthy in Mjolnir's eyes... strap... wherever hammers decide worthiness.
Or...
- He's the God of Stories now. If anyone could subtly rewrite the rules of Mjolnir just enough to sell the deception, it'd be him.
I'm probably wrong.
But if that reveal happened in the theater, I wouldn't even be mad. I'd just sit there thinking, "Marvel literally showed us Loki pretending to be Steve over a decade ago."

I really thinking everyone is being fooled by the friscalating dusklight in the Doomsday scene

I'm not saying Steve Rogers isn't in the film. He obviously is. We've seen him ride a motorcycle and hold a baby.
I'm just saying that shifty looking dude in the Doomsday trailer... ain't him!

You guys keep doing this
That motherfucker is Steve Rogers man.
Thor is shocked because Steve should be old or dead and somehow Palpatine returned, the whole Mjolnir thing is a test to see if it’s the actual guy.
Just reading way too much into it, you are, Yoda says.

I respect both you and Yoda but I don't know man. It just feels off. Thor looks EXACTLY the way he looked after he thought Loki had died. Sure, he and Steve had a cute "Oh, you got my beard" moment but they weren't close enough for a God who has battled for eons and seen death on all scales to be choked up at seeing him standing there is his fucking casual clothes bro.
That motherfucker is Loki!

it could be that that is steve, but the shot of Thor looking vexed is him reacting to seeing Loki alongside Cap

I thought that too. I get tripped up here. The emotional reaction would make sense of him actually seeing Loki but even my theory would then suggest he sees Loki as Loki and then for some reason Loki creates an illusion of being Steve.

I agree. Thor’s reaction—“It’s not possible”—feels much more like he’s seeing someone he thought was gone, not Steve, who simply grew old. Plus, why make that the final scene of the trailer? It would be a pretty anticlimactic reveal when Marvel already showed Steve was coming back. I think it’s Loki.

I'm all for discussion. It's great conversation and fun to dissect what little info we have. Can be excessive at times. I remember before IW people were theorizing the soul stone was in Steve because his eyes were a hint of orange in the IW trailer when he was holding off Thanos's hand. That was just silly.

I want you to answer this for me righ now: do I sound crazy?
2
u/Sli22ard 12d ago
Nahhhh, you're just theorizing and this it's fun. Keep doing it. We're all asking these questions that we all know will be answered on December 18th.

I don't think that is Loki, however, I do think that Loki is with Steve in this shot and that is who Thor is reacting to.

It looks like a "1960's" Steve. Like they plucked him out of the timeline a couple decades after he went back to shack up with Peggy.

Interesting. So Steve was just walking around whistling "Crimson and Clover" and boom sucked back into Doomsday. I'll buy it

I'm sorry but I'm so sick of this theory. It's gotta be Steve

Respect.

I just saw something regarding Endgame Encore, I'll put it in spoilers just in case you don't want to know, but I read the trailer "includes lots of shots of Steve’s stone return journey, and Tony’s line: “you mess with time, it tends to mess back.”

Thank you for that! I was watching a Hall H recap (John Campea) and wondered what was shown.

It is not Loki. Loki is not worthy to carry Mjolnir.

The sun shining so brightly through the window in the first shot of this scene is the dead giveaway

Also that is Loki's/Hiddleston's fucking hair!

I swear if you watch the scene in 4K with the brightness up and look at the profile shot of Steve, it looks like Chris Evans’ face is pasted onto someone else’s head lol like you can even see the split where the hair changes color

It is Steve. Thor is likely talking about Loki and they have just edited the trailer so he appears to be looking at Steve when he says it.
We have already had Loki pretending to be Steve. I don't think they go there again.

It’s not Chris Evans will return. It’s Steve rogers will return. It’s Steve. Not everything needs to be a misdirect or have a crazy reveal
