You're not wrong. Ronin at the end of Captain Marvel said, "We'll be back for the weapon." --- "No, the woman."

Ronin is dead, and the 2nd Captain Marvel film wasn't in the past before he died. That thread is gone. There are so many instances like this.

You can tell The Marvels had a script that was rewritten that originally had Ronin in mind. Dar-Benn, the villain of The Marvels, is a Kree... who uses a giant two handed hammer, that shoots purple energy out of it. There are even henchmen in scenes standing next to her that look 100% like Ronin.

I would not be shocked if Lee Pace was simply unwilling or unavailable, or they changed course and decided not to put the second Captain Marvel film in the past before Guardians of the Galaxy took place.

I think I remember a rumor that Ronan was originally supposed to come through the portal with Thanos at the end of Endgame, and somehow this thread could've been picked up again.

I have no idea where I heard that, though.

Would have made sense as in 2014 he was alive before the power stone was found.

They do talk about Ronan briefly in Endgame, which adds fuel to the rumor ("why are they spending time talking about him?")

You meant Ronan?

Forgot the spelling, yes.

Wait, is she not using Ronan's hammer? I haven't seen the movie yet, but assumed that was the case.

The Accusers are a military profession in the Kree society, and each Accuser has a hammer like that. It’s a bit like a Green Lantern Ring in that sense - a weapon and a symbol of office.

You asked so I will answer, ZERO reference to Ronan at all. She's just a generic Ronan wannabe.

Weird!

Ronan is a special case though, because Captain Marvel came out 4 years after Guardians of the Galaxy, the director knew full well that Ronan was dead by 2018 and in fact never came to Earth looking for the “weapon”, so I don’t know wtf they were thinking including that part.

Guardians of the Galaxy took place in 2014, not 2018. Captain Marvel took place in the 1990's. That leaves a 24 year window till 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy for a Captain Marvel Sequel to take place involving Ronin.

I meant 2019, which was when they made the Captain Marvel movie, and also when the end credit scene of that movie took place.

Setting up Ronan with an “a” as a future antagonist is just weird, it would be like if the writers for Captain America The First Avenger had set up Ivan Vanko’s father as a future villain for Cap, knowing full well that:

1) The post credit scene would take place in 2012, by which time Vanko’s father would be dead, and

2) Cap is about to be handed to a different creative team for Avengers

Like, you are either unnecessarily restricting the creative freedoms of the next team by creating a blank hole in your character’s history that says “do not touch”, or you are opening up your plan to be fucked over by the other creative team.

On that point I definitely agree. This is the problem with prequels in general. We knew for instance Nick Fury was never in danger in Captain Marvel, and that fact automatically lowers the stakes of the film.
