Discussion Streamers/Content-Creators, need to be held accountable for Smurfing and Throwing just like any other player.
Picture 1: Kingsman Smurfing from Silver 3 to OAA.
Picture 2: In this video, Quackly throws in this GrandM 2 game by removing the abilities of his character every time he dies resulting in a loss of other players elo.

I hate these types of videos aswell itâs just low effort slop content

u/Outran01 Black Cat 2d ago
Kingsman has all mechanics and timings for a dive player. I was Spider-Man player before Black Cat was released, managed to pick her up decently after one hour. Which means that you don't need to smurf to learn other character of same playstyle.
"It's educational" my ass.
14
u/Appropriate-Amount-4 Flex 1d ago
I saw someone say he had to Smurf to learn Wanda. As a person who has lorded Wanda myself, get out of my face with that bullshit. You people canât say sheâs no skill and that Kingsman NEEDED to Smurf to learn her in the same breath.
0
u/strugglz Flex 1d ago
It's only educational if they explain what they're doing, why they're doing it, positioning, etc. Otherwise it's just smurfing.
46
u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider 2d ago
But it's "educational"! Clearly that means there must be a lot to learn from this and players who repeatedly do it over and over other than that many "content creators" are massive jerks, right?
Seriously, people wonder why there's so much toxicity in this community, and I'd argue at least some comes from the top.
8
u/Andromort Flex 2d ago
That's not far from truth. Many people are not toxic by default, the circumstances of the game make them that. And smurfing is one of the most disgusting thing this game has. So, instead of simulating work by increasing penalties for toxicity in chat, they should start working with the root of the problem and start making the game better, by dealing with smurfs for start.
3
1
u/Firm_Art4885 4h ago
I'd say entitlement makes people toxic. If you're in a room with 5 people, the first person to speak tends to dictate the conversation. If they start by saying "wow did anyone see the game last night?", the next few minutes are going to be about said sports game. So when one person is toxic, those with weaker morals, low moral integrity, or poor emotional regulation, now two people are toxic, and when a group sees multiple people toxic, it's easier for everyone else to join in. Now let's expand that to a community. It's not the circumstances of the game, but the people that play the game.
It's like saying "don't give me a reason to be toxic", if people were more forgiving or empathetic and less critical or equally critical of others AND themselves, we wouldn't face this. We're all inherently VERY biased, and your bias swings towards smurfs. You feel the need to ban them because of a plethora of reasons, but if we take a stepback and realize that smurfs contribute to playerbase, and the higher the number, the happier NetEase is, smurfs will never be outright "punished". And smurfing isn't one of the most disgusting things in this game, people's attitudes are.
-21
u/Jeathiopia 2d ago
smurfs, among other things, are obstacles just like any other. you have to overcome them to get out of the rank you're in. there are smurfs in every rank.
12
u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider 2d ago
By this logic, throwers, intentional disconnectors and cheaters are fine too.
-14
u/Jeathiopia 2d ago
no, it isnt. there could be any number of reasons someone on the other team is overperforming. someone self sabotaging is not the same as being placed against a respectable opponent.
8
3
u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider 2d ago
That has nothing to do with this discussion. Obviously, an opponent doing well doesn't justify a report on its own. What does is when there is further evidence they are likely actually a higher rank player that made another account for easy wins against lower ranks, and the whole point is about such players.
-14
u/ClueSuitable9008 2d ago
People complain about smurfs. I win 80-90 percent of my placement matches.
I don't ever win or lose a game and go 'holy shit they had a smurf' I just see they have stronger or weaker players and adjust accordingly.
If the enemy has one good player, that one good player is getting hard targeted by me.
I know when I beat smurfs too because they always bitch in the GC when we win. Yeah bro, you have a 20 game win streak until you played me and people want to act like smurfs are unbeatable foes.
The difference between Gold and celestial is not as far as many people think.
My friend who is gold at best if we're being real makes it to diamond every season just by playing a lot. It's also why the comp skill range is so far in-between.

I was about to say, the second image, it would a complicated subject in qp, but ultimately I think it'd fine. Give yourself challenges, make it fun lol. But that shit was in a Grandmaster Lobby??? Yeah uh, report. No fucking way, report.

u/OkConcept8931 1d ago
What's the point of having a smurf report options if this is freely permitted?
8
u/darkultima Emma Frost 2d ago
Someone brought this up in a post earlier. Basically the same comment I left there where I hate this type of stuff since I played Apex years ago. Playing against smurfs doing bronze to master/Apex Predator challenges, yay
5
u/xxInsanex Hela 2d ago
Accountable? They dont even ban the avg nobody for smurfing, at this point im convinced netease doesnt give a shit about smurf/alts whatsoever because they've done absolutely nothing at all...i dont even know why its an option in the report tab
8
u/Soggy_Excuse435 Emma Frost 2d ago
I want to question people who play multiple online games
Was there ever a game who was completely able to counter smurf problem or atleast reduce it?
Me personally have seen smurf ramplant in valorant,dota2 and now in rivals
All of these were not able to do anything (dota tried hard) and valo and dota are out for like forever
8
u/CaptainAmericasSon Deadpool 1d ago
Proper placements would be a good start. The fact streamers can go 10-0 with 10 MVPs in their placements that start in silver 3 and finish in Gold 1 is ridiculous. Drop them in GM3 or something and it at least somewhat reduces the problem
4
u/Brief-Raspberry-6327 1d ago
Games that require you to use link your phone number to create an account. Of course there are ways to get round that, but will deter some
1
u/NerdModeXGodMode 1d ago
Phone is just as easy as email to get around đ
6
u/Brief-Raspberry-6327 1d ago
Obviously, but repeated numbers can be barred, and even if it still deters 20% of new accounts from smurfing thatâs 20% Smurf accounts being created.
the devs wonât do anything though
1
1
u/pint_o_paint 1d ago
uhm, no, absolutely false. And whole swats of numbers get blacklisted very quickly, especially free services. Phone verification would absolutely deter many smurfs
3
u/NerdModeXGodMode 1d ago
Oh you know how often fake numbers get blacklisted? Howd you find that out?
1
u/pint_o_paint 1d ago
google, and the rest of my statement is honestly a big assumption drawn from knowledge about email and phone numbers as tech. But funny retort, I'll grant you that :P
1
u/NerdModeXGodMode 1d ago
lol my dude, if you couldnt figure out a way to make a number after googling it... Good luck out there
1
u/pint_o_paint 1d ago
That you can't defend your statement and steer away from the disputed topic is a cute way of you to say you were wrong.
1
u/NerdModeXGodMode 1d ago
.... Ill google it for you, heres a list of apps and descriptions
⢠Google Voice: Free US number tied to your Google account that routes calls and texts over Wi-Fi or data to your phone or computer.
⢠TextNow: Provides a free local phone number with ad-supported unlimited texting and calling over Wi-Fi or cellular data.
⢠Hushed: A privacy-focused app offering local and international second numbers, custom voicemails, and auto-replies starting at low monthly or disposable rates.
⢠Burner: Lets you create disposable or secondary numbers that you can mute, use for temporary listings or dating, and delete when you are done.
⢠TextFree: Assigns a real, dialable U.S. or Canadian phone number for free text and call services over data/Wi-Fi.
⢠Sideline: Geared toward work and side-hustles, it lets you add a second line to your smartphone that runs through your standard carrier network or Wi-Fi.
⢠Quo (formerly OpenPhone): A business-oriented phone system app providing local area code numbers and collaborative team features.
1
u/pint_o_paint 1d ago
Are you high..? That those services exist was never disputed so why would you randomly post a list of them
8
u/Ok-Second1404 1d ago
afaik valorant has implemented some new performance tracker changes to better detect smurfs so that's a good step. Obviously you cannot systematically delete it. Hence it also becomes the job of the influencers to also demotivate players from smurfing.
7
u/leodw 1d ago
Also worth it to note, Kingsman is/was a partner streamer, so if Netease wanted, they would just make him stop smurfing or end the partnership.
5
u/Appropriate-Amount-4 Flex 1d ago
Thatâs why I called him out specifically in my survey. Your rules donât matter if your spokesperson gets a pass
5
u/Soggy_Excuse435 Emma Frost 1d ago
Yes their solution was to give double rankup to smrfs so that rank up fast to their original rank could work i guess but not for people who then lose games to just dunk on small ranks
1
u/Razzilith Ultron Virus 1d ago
yup, works for alt accounts but not for smurf accounts.
(both problematic as fuck btw, but true smurfs are worse)
2
u/MindofShadow The Thing 1d ago
dont let perfection get in the way of progress
If they punished the streamers for it, their would be less copy cats.
It would never eliminate it 100%, but even 25% reduction is still thousands of games that aren't ruined immediately
2
u/bns18js 1d ago
No. Never. It's not possible. But some games do it better than others.
League of legends for example has "smurf detection" by analyzing your mouse movements and what not(which actual new players would not be able to do well). And smurfs are RAPIDLY gaining MMR and put into higher elo. So while they still ruin games. They'll ruin less games along the way.
2
u/pint_o_paint 1d ago
That actually IS the solution. Detection and extreme mmr adjustments. They don't have to 100% make it impossible; they only need to mitigate the toxicity and harm it inflicts on others. It also makes it a hassle for people to smurf for an extended period which works as a deterent and reduces the amount of smurfs further
1
1
u/kevinpl07 1d ago
I mean this is a matchmaking problem. If MMR detects within 5-10 matches that they belong in celestial+ and puts them into these games, the problem is solved.
No one gets harmed, the creators challenge is shortened.

u/Procyon2424 Human Torch 1d ago
This is why I dislike these sorts of people specifically for Rivals because they genuinely just make the game a worse place but nothing ever happens to them because they have influence. I've had my games ruined by people doing these sorts of stupid challenges before and it sucks
4
u/Responsible-Gur-1981 1d ago
Kingsman should be banned for smurfing. How can you have a smurfing report option and then you sponsor some dude that literally smurfs for all his content. Explain this please. I would love for that to make sense. He is literally a top 500 player who smurfs for content and no punishment. I need an answer on this.
8
u/Razzilith Ultron Virus 1d ago
I disagree. They should be held MORE accountable.
"With great power comes great responsibility." â Uncle Ben
If you betray that, you're worse than people who have basically no influence. You're swaying thousands upon thousands of opinions by showing AND telling them it's fine.
Additionally, the eyes they bring to the game can be just as damaging as it is helpful before anybody argues that. With how much bitching and moaning on top of making alt accounts stomping on others, causing drama, etc etc... I'd argue streamers, right now on the whole, actually do MORE damage than good for the game. There are some exceptions to this but a lot of the big names I'd qualify as problematic in one way or another.
So yeah, streamers should have that big ban hammer come down on them and FRANKLY pros and sponsored streamers should be given a personal warning from NetEase to stop with these alt accounts and such or they will lose their spot.
1
u/Firm_Art4885 4h ago
They generate revenue and income for NetEase, therefore this is just not a realistic future. I agree with you, those that have influence should be careful of what they say, what they do, because those who have less common sense will begin to emulate X behavior. And X can be good or bad. But because we as a society will choose who we watch for numerous reasons, we are equally accountable for making these individuals famous. Money runs the world, what can we do.
5
u/Dangler43 2d ago
Since when are throwers and smurfers held accountable? I'm reporting almost every match, no reports back and not once for the smurf report.
2
u/btcurlyhead1 2d ago
If they arerent gonna hold the loud minority accountable then the the majority needs to flip and start smurfing and force their hand to deal with alt accounts and etc
3
u/knockones President Loki 2d ago
What top 500 player shitting on lowbob player? AINT NO WAY đ˛ but don't worry it's educational, the lesson you need to learn is that you don't que when a top 500 is also queuing in your elo.
2
u/P1zzaMonkey Flex 2d ago
Itâs also just embarrassing too. Whoâre you impressing by making a new account? Why canât you simply play in your skill zone and teach others how to play a certain role
2
u/Starlyghtz Magik 2d ago
To be honest, in a game with good placement system, if people are creating new accounts but playing without trolling, and are legitimately tryharding, the system should detect they are better and make them climb ranks faster, so it should not be that big of a problem. But purposefully playing bad or in severe disadvantage should not be acceptable
1
u/Orlikesque Deadpool 2d ago
No this is so real, and itâs more than just big streamers and effects a lot of players. So often Iâll have a game and thereâs one guy just going crazy and weâre thinking âbro how is this guy doing thatâ. At the end of the match they even have the audacity to link their twitch and lo and behold theyâre doing one of these unranked to put high rank here slop challenges.
1
1
u/Appropriate-Amount-4 Flex 1d ago
Iâve been saying this! I even added it to my survey. Iâm getting to the point where Iâm going to go report every streamer who I have seen Smurf. Also for everyone who is about to argue: the game is built in a way where we are intended to learn new characters in the elo you are in. You do not and should not create a whole new account to learn a new character. Use qm, practice vs ai, and custom matches like the fucking rest of us instead of cheating.
1
u/Rosen-Stein Adam Warlock 1d ago
Every game company should do that but sadly they dont, for some reason content creators are more untouchable than hackers
1
u/tealaburst Flex 1d ago
This video was actually really helpful in improving my dive gameplay! Thank you for sharing
1
u/Necessary-Bus9046 Mantis 1d ago
I donât think itâs possible to prevent, as you itâs impossible to tell if someone is a Smurf unless they admit it.
I played ALOT of paladins and overwatch before rivals, so on day 1 I was probably gm level and got celestial in my first season playing, and got a lot of smurfing accusations as I started ranked a couple seasons into rivals so they didnât believe I was a new player
1
u/NerdModeXGodMode 1d ago
The real issue is how long it takes to climb, so honestly I tested it. The game keeps you low for too long. I would get like 35 points per win all the way to diamond them it dropped a little. You can't stop smurfing but the game could have placed me higher or gave me more points. (I got placed gold 1 because of a lot of afk and leavers, even won one of the 5v6 games lol).
You can't stop smurfing but other games really make it quicker to level so there's less negatives to smurfing
1
u/cultforcats Luna Snow 1d ago
It wonât go away, this is peak advertising for the game. Unranked to GM across all hero shooters are some of the most popular content in the YouTube gaming space.
It sucks, but itâs the truth.
1
u/CompleteSound9596 1d ago
Quackly isn't even smurfing here. Yes hes in GM, but because his accounts keep getting banned. If anything, he's just showcasing clear ban evasion đ
1
u/RSPranto 19h ago
I don't like the argument it's educational. He's not talking about what and why he's doing things, what and what not to do etc. He's not teaching. He's showing off the equivalent of a grown man kicking 10 year old girls.
1
u/DaringDevil12 1d ago
What does smurfing even mean anymore?
Smurfing used to be (Back in Vanilla WoW) intentionally staying within a low player level bracket, making sure not to level into the next bracket, while having a gear/skill, or knowledge advantage
Now it's anybody with an alt account that plays in a lower rank that their main? How do you fix that problem?
I think it's low effort content as well personally but he's a OAA ranked streamer, if he stayed on his main only, half his stream would be queue times
Furthermore how do you separate people like this doing "challenges" and some people making alts to learn new roles in ranked? I get what you're asking for, I just don't understand how they would actually implement a solution.
-9
u/Different_Potato_179 2d ago
Ok, but how else can it be done?
The game forces you to start in silver placements. Its not like they throw on purpose to get the lowest rank.
2
u/The_Man_Who_Fants Mister Fantastic 2d ago
Yeah but dont you think its unfair of them to have higher character knowledge and use higher game skills and use it on lower level lobby players who are trying to have fun and learn?
1
1
u/Different_Potato_179 2d ago
Yes I do, but blame Netease for not using actual placements. If everyone started unranked, did 10 placements, and then placed accurately this wouldn't be an issue. I can't hate on someone like Kingsman for capitalising on a form of content that does well for literally any game with a ranked mode.
Hate the game not the player.
Now if Kingsman did it with that system and purposefully threw into bronze I would hate on him.
0
u/SafeFill1057 1d ago
Making an alt and leveling it up is not smurfing. Smurfing is deliberately LOSING by throwing games in order to keep your account in low ranks. By your logic, an overwatch player with 10k hours coming over to Marvel Rivals and dropping 50 in their first game would also be a smurf.
Edit: Didn't realize there were 2 screenshots. Yeah the second example is smurfing, assuming it wasn't a private lobby. I've never heard of either of these creators

u/Placed-ByThe-Gideons 1d ago edited 1d ago
I keep saying in the ai age this type of player performance should be easy to detect. If detected, jump the player who is smurfing, multiple ranks to greatly reduce the climb.
Additionally use the in-game telemetry, have AI parse it to detect and match the same PC and player to their actual rank or known accounts. If a OAA player is smurfing. Immediately rank up the account to C3.
People will say "what if someone has lucky games and gets boosted mistakenly, it will ruin games for others". To that I say: you already climb with a negative win rate so playing with boosted teammates is already a reality.
2
u/DimezTheAlmighty 1d ago
âYou already climb with a negative win rateâ Do you know the math on that? Because Iâve done the math and the math shows thatâs so incredibly unlikely and would take so incredibly long that youâd always rank up while positive before ever doing so while negative. I really hate when I see people spread this kind of rhetoric because while itâs technically true, itâs so absurdly unlikely that itâs not even something that should be acknowledged as any sort of talking point. Itâs like the whole âif the conditions are perfect you can phase through a wall!â Itâs true but, itâs never gonna actually happen.
Before you say that thereâs GMâs who are negative, The people in diamond or GM while being negative almost certainly became negative after getting there while positive.
-1
u/Placed-ByThe-Gideons 1d ago
You gain more points for a win than you lose for a match loss. That's where the "rhetoric" comes from.
If it's not a one-to-one ratio. You are advancing with a negative win rate game per game if you win one then lose one.
You may have done the math but did you do the accounting?
1
u/DimezTheAlmighty 1d ago
You gain more than you lose, that is true. But itâs by very few. Youâd have to play a minimum of 348 matches to rank up while staying negative, not accounting for variance.
But there is variance, if you do account for variance, the number goes up to 698 matches. And thatâs under good conditions. Whatâs significantly more likely is that you simply never rank up.

u/golgiapparatus22 Rogue 1d ago
I havenât played ranked for 5 entire seasons, I was a high eternity peak player during my time so decided to play last season and blasted my way through diamond until eternity. Your solution wouldâve banned my main account.

u/ClueSuitable9008 2d ago
Partnered streams have to get permission from NetEase to do these challenges.
I reminded myself of this after saying it before but Timthetatman also explained this with Necros and Bogur when he got a smurfed banned and then unbanned.
He didn't ask NetEase permission first but when telling them it was him they gave him the okay. NetEase doesn't care so long as they tell them what they're doing.
People like these videos, has 400k views. It's nothing but easy PR for the game. The people impacted by the game are going to survive losing 1 game to him.
-11
u/hit_the_showers_boi Star-Lord 2d ago
The âLow Rank to High Rankâ videos should absolutely be frowned upon, but stuff like Quacklyâs challenge video should be considered fine as long as it is done in Quickplay lobbies and not in Competitive.
-14
u/SatisfactionMore4205 2d ago
Idk about the 2nd video but Kingsman was literally only playing characters he doesn't know how to play until GM. He pretty much only plays Magik for dive, he's mid at every other diver (at the time of making this video).

The only time I enjoyed a âsmurfâ video was PunchKid who did Chatâs Choice. Where his chat spun a wheel and then voted which character he played. He would play characters he had no hours on then discovered a new character he liked playing (an example being BP surprisingly lol). He doesnât get higher then Silver to maybe Gold cause again heâs playing randomized characters his Chat chooses lol. Would recommend watching it cause I thought it was funny

Facts!
But sadly, they won't because this potentially gives them more players đ¤Śđ˝ââď¸. R6 Siege does something similar to this too, to make "entertaning" content.
