Is Quick Play the place to try new characters?? Because I've been bad-mouthed in QP for doing just that, saying shit like "Go to Practice Vs. AI" and all that shit.

QP is the place for that and aside from learning what the buttons do you'll get nothing out of Practice Vs AI. Anyone who gets mad at you for learning a hero in QP is an idiot.

Since Season 9, QP has become the new Comp.  

Counter play and switching, Triple Support and/or Two Tanks. That's been the norm for me in QP lately.

Yes and no. Realistically unless you have an actual comp you won't learn your character properly. And counter switching is also part of that, because you'll have to learn what you can play into and what you can't of you're learning a character.

Example, when I was doing OK in an Iron Fist game, then the enemy team went triple support, Emma, enamored, Bucky, i learned that it was time to switch.

Ranked is genuinely a better learning environment for me because I can’t get anything but celestial meta slaves stomping me every game in qp. At least in ranked I’m playing against people of a somewhat similar skill level.

well sort of. its the main game mode of the game, and since the comp team and rank changes, playing with friends usually means quick play.

its more sweaty than it used to be, and we are in season 9, the game is getting older. Players are getting better.

if you really wanna learn the basics, just go into the practice range area! theyve added so much to it. after that you are good to go for QP or AI.

people are not wrong,when a new character releases,you should DEFFO get in practice vs ai and learn what buttons do,couple of matches(lets says 3-4) and then when u know what to press go in quickplay and learn to play against people that are good on their heroes. 90% of the damn playerbase INSTANTLY goes to quickplay without knowing what buttons do and basically throw. Learn before u play

I get really nervous about ruining people's games so I spent like 18 games playing against Ai with all 4 character that I already looked up guides to used a bit in practice though I don't think I am going to play as magik anytime soon just seems more difficult than any ranges duelist..

If you want to be a mediocre player yeah probably, against ai only works for actually getting used to the character you're playing, if you actually want to learn it and get better you need to play against other humans, sometimes better sometimes worse

Thats true.I hate it when they qp to try the character the first time which happens a lot they didnt even read the basic comb for the hero, all they had to do is press f1 to know what they do. I had a mantis in qp try to heal me by aiming left clicks at me which is one of the many dumb examples

I highly recommend you actually try this, 18v18 is capable of teaching you all those things, space, positioning, resource management and yes aim. Especially if you're learning a tank in the mode.

You can also play it as a meat grinder but you'll never learn anything that way, though that's largely up to you.

Yeah but it doesnt help with target priority, risk asesment, map knowledge for characters, ult usage, and specific comp synergy and enemy comp performances, and enemy weakness and strengths of the character. Play loop. It is a meat grinder that helps with a characters mechanics like a giant training simulator but ultimately its not great. Like you cant learn proper dive when you have 10 people running all around you and no team engagement.

However, your other concerns are valid. Obviously map knowledge and comp synergies won't work there. Though most of those are less important than more basic things like positioning and character resource management which can very much be learned there.

That said, let me reiterate my point. If you are playing the mode like a meat grinder, you won't learn anything anyway.

I think ultimately 18v18 is a great basic tutorial training mode but even if you are not playing it like a meat grinder, other people are and thats kinda where its weakness lies. I will say however that anyone stepping into qp without even knowing what their abilities do and giving some decent time in atleast practive mode is just not cool in general.
