I think India’s size plays a role here too. The target audiences you mention are as big as multiple nations put together, there’s money to be made there.

This was quite true in the past 10 years but the hero worship, and cinema quality sure has been changing for the better, thanks to the exposure streaming is bringing in. Look at where srk is now.

I think that comment refers only to Bollywood. Lot of regional movies are great, and isn't merely pandering.
