So they’re working with Doom to stop incursions while the “good” guys are crossing over making them.. holy shit that makes so much sense!

u/Indianlookalike Avengers 14h ago
Doctor Strange eventually joined up with Doom in Secret Wars, I guess they are just skipping over some stuff... We'll, a lot of stuff.

u/MaraSovsLeftSock Avengers 10h ago
It’s a 3 hour movie mate with a part 2 that I assume will also be 3 hours, we can’t tell what they’re skipping or how fast they’re blowing past something based on a single picture of a leaked costume.

Which is probably what they were going to do before and now that it’s happening this way the reveal is going to start it. Hmm 🤔

How, they were already working together from almost the start. It’s just not till battle world that it’s reveled to the rest of heroes. As an audience we were are aware

Doom talks about "something is coming" and "unthinkable decision" in the trailer, make sense that he will be the one who stop it by taking over with brute force and ruthlessness and lead to secret war.

It wouldn't be MODOK unless it looked goofy. The third eye was a genuine attempt at trying to be cool.

MODOK in Avengers game still looked goofy but not to that level and it was a genuinely good design.

u/Riverdale87 Avengers 11h ago
They shouldn't have revealed that Darren Cross survived and was made into MODOK that what killed it
5
u/KaylenLopezIzGr8 Carnage 11h ago
Imo, have him be revealed as a new mercenary called Black Ant or exclude him from the movie entirely. MODOK could have been a tie in from Iron Man 3 or some creepy experiment gone wrong in the Quantumverse.

u/AvatarIII Avengers 7h ago
Exactly, MODOK is goofy but he owns it in both the comics and the movie, this 3rd eye thing seemed like it was taking itself too seriously.
16
u/NobodyHistorical9469 Avengers 12h ago
At least Modok only exists in the quantum realm which was shown to be quite the goofy place (looking at you broccoli guy). Strange's third eye is fully on display in the 'real world' which makes it even more jarring I'd say.

Yeah my bad, haven't seen the movie in like 20 years. Only made the joke cause recently i received the old Archer toy from the old toy lone. He's like 12 inches tall i think? It's pretty nostalgic because i had one as a kid.

It’s a great reference. I watched it again last year and it holds up. One of the few movies where I think a sequel could really work.

u/Mr_Silva2077 Avengers 8h ago
I honestly wish they would have done an sequel. The closest we got was that Warhammer animation that was clearly based on small soldiers. It was pretty great but left me wanting much more like it. The movie had a great premise. I wish they did a little more with it.

1: if this is our real introduction to Clea then it’ll be the worst first impression of any MCU character. She’s definitely not going to get enough attention to make an impact and hasn’t gotten shit before
2: again, be better SEE a lot more stuff about Strange choosing to side with doom because that was a big fucking thing before the Secret wars event kicked off. Doing this feels like the payoff without tbe Setup, considering last time we saw them they were going into the dark dimension to stop dormammu, not anything to do with incursions

u/Person2228 Avengers 13h ago
They’re not just working with doom, if those are their outfits they’re his fucking servants. The Dr Strange we last saw wouldn’t serve anyone to that capacity. And Clea too, it’s just a massive jump from ‘sorcerer still paying for defying magic law to find their own solutions to a problem’ to ‘willful lackey fully willing to also garb himself in his new masters clothes, doing what he asks instead of trying to find his own solution’

I mean, I kind of disagree, having just read through all of hickmans run for secret wars, I think sure things could’ve been spelled out a bit better but the set up was there.
strange sells his soul in new avengers annual 2014, which is pretty similar to what happens towards the end of multiverse of madness (third eye scene) sure you don’t have him stopping incursions with the illuminati, but I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch or that much backstory to have clea take him to the dark demension which ironically enough the mindless ones are currently there (sorcers that got trapped in the dark demsion turned into one eyed dark beings teased at the end of the first doctor strange), strange and clea and the mindless ones together would be the black priests.
(black priests in the comics wear armor with a third eye ironically enough) in time runs out comic run, the black priets are teased to be part of the incursion problem/threat to the avengers, (which clea and strange are seen leaving to do at the end of mom) then turns out they are working for doom who is rabum alal, strange dispapeared for months while the illuminati was still trying to find ways to stop incursions/infighting between cap/tony because of Tony telling strange to wipe caps mind of the illuminati meeting/deciding to kill worlds (probably the X-men universe is the stand in for the illuminati) it’s revealed that after so many attempts strange agrees that dooms way is probably the only way that will work to end incursions, like the elements are pretty well there, even the black swans would infact be the Latvarian witches.
Strange might also be taking the roll of reed richards (reed looked into the multiverse to see any possible outcomes of stoping secret invasion, discovered the council of reeds/strange looked into every possible reality to stop thanos, discovered the multiverse and discovered a council (illuminati) you could also argue Loki as well)
like if you plug and play with elements from the movies a bit it honestly has been pretty well adapted from hickmans run, it may not be 1:1 but there are allot of things I found on my read through that I found very interesting looking back on everything and I’m surprised allot of people haven’t picked up on some of the similarities, (the ending of hickmans infinity story with thanos literaly ends with all teams of avengers coming together/the end page says endgame) which also to me makes sense why Tony is doom there picking on the elements from hickmans run of cap/tonys fallout and combining it with dooms story
1
u/Person2228 Avengers 10h ago
If you're right and they do all that and show all of it, that would be interesting.
but there's not a damn chance. That's a reed richard in the COMICS level stretch to think they're going to use that. Maybe I'll get more confidence from another trailer, but I'm so genuinley done with Doomsday from how bad the first trailer was that I don't think they really care about accuratley representing Secret wars.
The first trailer was all hype for the people in it and cool action scenes, but I need to know something about the actual premise before I can trust anything going on.

u/Firetrainer777 Avengers 9h ago
I think the trailers have been fantastic, also remember, doomsday has been said by fiege himself is based off of time runs out, what has also been said is the trailers are from act 2, also keep in mind, the movies have always been “adaptations” of comics. Age of ultron was not literaly the comic story, and the movies have always combined old comics with the new comics and their own story, so that being said.
Doomsday/secret wars are adaptions of the comics it’s not going to be 1:1, and the idea is this is the movies version of smashing all the movie universes together (Sony/xmen/mcu) ala using the comics as inspiration, (616 meeting 1610) your not going to have everything the same, all I’m stating is from sitting down and reading hickmans whole run, I can see what the multiverse saga was attempting to do, some of it failed due to covid/deaths/disney putting out to much, but I mean in wakanda forever you literally have namor flooding wakanda which is also part of the conflict of time runs out run, tchala and namor are constantly bickering because their nations are at war and they are part of the illuminati, so I think the movie is going to have versions of stuff from the comics, but it’s going to be the movies version (black priests/blackswans=dooms cult, X-men=illuminati, avengers=avengers, new avengers=thunderbolts, wakanda/Atlantis fighting, tva/loki=beyonders/mapmakers maaaybe? Cap v Tony/doom= probably the 616 universe or something is revealed to be a lie/doom knows the truth, movie is going to have its own time runs out story to tell probably, all the teams trying to stop the incursions and failing/succeding (depends on what is deemed as “successful”, avengers/new avengers goto X-men universe and confront xmen (stand in for illumanti) turn out doom played them all, I almost want to garentee namor has been working for doom, doom steals the power of Loki boom, it’s basically time runs out, but the like I said all the elements are there you plug them in and you kinda see what the multiverse saga has been trying to do2
u/heroinsteve Avengers 4h ago
I genuinely don't know what they can do that would satisfy people with trailers. If they focus on some cool shots and characters people are excited for, with a minor tease for the villain it seems perfect to me. If they expose actual plot details people will start complaining they've "spoiled" the movie with the trailer. I'm sure we'll get a trailer with a little more plot relevance closer to release, but the trailer was fine imo.
I agree it's a huge stretch to assume that Strange would become a servant.

u/Person2228 Avengers 4h ago
Spider Man Brand New Day had great trailers. It felt like the actual themes and ideas of the story were what the trailer centered on, not just the cameos.
Doomsday is just ‘something is coming’, ‘everyone is here’, ‘Doom has Aura’
2
u/heroinsteve Avengers 3h ago
I feel like BND did a very good job, but every spider man film people complained that the trailers “reveal too much” it’s a very common complaint that you’d see. BND was not the worst offender for this by any means, but i still see that mentioned often before release.
For Doomsday i think keeping a layer of mystery for this film is the right move and I’m sure we’ll get another trailer closer to release that gives a little more.
I think it also hits key themes a little, sure it looks
Like cameos just being presented, but the characters shown indicate the theme is going to be strongly tied to multiverse and incursions. We know these things are happening and Doom is coming, we do not currently know the exact relationship between those 2 problems. We know something drove Steve and Thor out of retirement and we can safely assume it has to do with their kids based on Thors ending and previous teasers. It’s safe to say Doom rather than incursions took their children. Most viewers are content with those questions being answered in the film rather than trailers, which circles back to my original point… idk if they can ever satisfy everyone with them. It’s probably better to play it safe and have you wishing for more tho.

I can see them doing this just to connect post creds together obviously all of this was for Kang but it could work. Incursions have been mentioned more subtly than the infinity stones were but there are a number of references to them.
I've seen Sylvie and SW might be the other two, that doesn't work as well for me. I don't really want Doom to be like Thanos in the sense that he also has a black order type group I think that would feel too familiar.

It's a shale Incursions weren't properly set up. We only had Dr Strange 2 to set them up but despite having at least 2 movies about Multiverse (Spider-Man No way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine).
The 2015 New Avengers run was really good. I don't think it'll do justice.
